Sometimes in discussion or battle reports I see a unit throw multiple grenades. BRB says that a unit can throw only a single grenade. Has this been FAQ'ed somehow?

No, one per unit.

That's not a lot of information for us
Assaulting buildings allows you to throw multiple grenades, for example.

Usually you dont even throw 1, since its very rare where that S3 grenade will cause as much or more damage than the bolter/shoota you could have shot. More for the strength than being a small blast that for some reason scatters further than it can be thrown at all lol.
Though ive had my friends use it on my Pathfinders a couple of times, since they were clumped up a little and behind a wall (and grenades are barrage so bleh lol). Never once has my orks ever thrown a stikkbomb over shooting a shoota/dakkagun.

One example was someone saying he grenade spams daemon princes to death with his marines, but that is now allowed by the rules. There have been many others suggesting they accomplish something with multiple grenades.
Thank you for the clarification. Automatically Appended Next Post: Erm, _not_ allowed, damn virtual keyboard and word suggestion on my phone.

For marines, Krak grenades are st6, so if you're in range you get a little advantage over a bolter against tough creatures. Everyone can use grenades in close combat though - that'd be one way of taking down a dp. You refuse his auto-challenge, then every man in the squad (thats left) attacks him with krak grenades. I can't think of any other time you could use multiple grenades from one squad (other than cc)

DP's don't have Champion of Chaos to auto challenge.
Also he'd likely beat that squad to death regardless.

Oh yeah...I forget that the champions of chaos don't all have the champions of chaos rule...
But if you're taking a charge from a dp on a tac squad - it means you get to hit at st6 rather than 4. For what good it'll do.

You can throw multiple grenades into the fire points of buildings, but that is still technically CC I guess. They're also ridiculously effective at slaughtering occupants when used in this manner.

The community is a great place to come for tactics advice, and there is a lot of very sound opinions and idea out there, but at the end of the day, play the game how you want to... Don't worry about the hordes of Dakka descending on your gaming club to arrest you for taking one heldrake or not using a screamerstar. Knowing the standard opinion (and that's all it is) on what is good/bad and conforming to that opinion religiously are two entirely separate things. |

I dont see how it makes any sense using grenades in CC. that is perhaps the worst case of combat realism this game has to offer. and thats saying a lot

It can only be done against monstrous critters, who are living tanks anyhow

And actual vehicles as well. I thought the explanation as to why you can use them in CC was quite clear, or was that a previous edition of the rulebook?

No, you can use assault grenades in CC as well it doesnt have any restrictions. Krak and Melta specifically say MC or Vehicle, the others do not.
You might place a small charge on someones back/leg in combat but it wouldnt be anything like a grenade, more like a lock-busting bomb designed to strike down in a specific direction (thus, no spray of shrapnel and if its still on the victim i assure you he isnt happy if hes alive at all lol)
Probably the only reason they didnt allow mass throwing of grenades is because they would have to change a lot of codex costs. If say for instance i could throw 30 Stikkbombs before assaulting rather than 30 Sluggas, what the hell would i use the Sluggas for lol. And thats not a stock upgrade, whereas it is for many other troops.

Also, Eldar Grenades aka Plasma Grenades are really good vs Infantry, Str4 AP4. I throw one all the time. Everyone has them now too, Guardians, Dire Avengers.

Guess I should have clarified that, I was originally speaking in reference to fighting monstrous creatures, but yes they're good against vehicles too. As for regular close combat, pg 116 of the brb states Krak grenades only against vehicles or MC's. the rule book doesn't say assault grenades can be used as cc weapons against infantry, only of their effect against troops in cover allowing assaulters to go at regular initiative.
