My statement was more because of the fact that the concept which later become "Saints Row IV" was originally going to be the last DLC pack for SR3 before THQ went under.

Man great idea! selling 600k worth of stuff for 1mill, but hides this fact with awesome sounding stuff that seems priceless to kids.
I really think they are on to something here. Just imagine a college kid who won a lottery and want to impress his friends. I mean the space flight and lambo alone will stop a collage kid from any reasoning.
the only thing I would want to add is Sasha Grey on the space flight, if she is on the list I wonld defineity by on the 'shut up and take my lottery money' mode

Exactly. I would gladly pay £30 for any game that I've enjoyed this much, and been able to play for currently going on 15 hours, barely being halfway through.
To call it "DLC" is doing it a disservice.
In other news, this game is amazing.

I think they realised that all the superpowers and stuff wouldn’t be given the justice they deserve with a simple DLC add-on. As a full game it works. It’s got all the cool stuff and wonderful humour from the SR series I love, but with the added superpowers. I can see what they’ve shamelessly taken from Crackdown, Prototype and Infamous, yet it manages to be more fun than any of them. I’m only a few hours in and I’m loving every second. The only downside is that I’m enjoying the powers so much that I hardly spend any time in vehicles. Why drive on puny human roads when I can leap tall buildings with a single bound?

I can see where they shamelessly parodied Mass Effect, Call of Duty, and plenty of other things as well. But parodies are fine as long as they're done well, and this one was.

Well I'm only about 4 hours in ATM so I obviously havnt seen all the parodies yet. Mind you the whole first mission was a massive COD parody now I think about it.
As soon as the game opened with the tribute to Predator I was sold.

They are non-stop, just some are easy to miss. Others are basically impossible to miss. "If I find that flat-topped freak I am going to kill him for stealing my line!" Finished it last night and laughed the whole way through. Almost platinum trophy too, actually. Did not try too hard for it either.

The call of duty one was really blatant. See: veryf rist mission, "Zero Zaints Thirty".

I was crying with laughter during the sequence in the first mission with the rocket. The preposterousness of the entire thing just broke me.
"Fred" was quite amusing as well. I've just finished "The Very Next Day..." And I'm at level 37 or so, and still enjoying the hell out of the game.

When DiveKick was released, it was £7 here, and you could get the double pack for £15, which gave you two copies of the game, so there's another example of GW style bundles, with an extra bit to tip them for the convenience of bundling it up for you!

No. I played SR4 for about an hour but gave up when I realised that the "whackyness" was going to get in the way of the fun parts, i.e. gangsta shizzle. I might try Saints Row 1 actually, since I really really enjoyed Saints Row 2.
Actually, you know what Saint's Row 4 reminds me of? You know how The Simpsons got to the point where they figured that their charecters were so likable and funny that they could do anything with them, and the audience would still want to watch? So they could put them in medieval Europe, or in a Stephan King novel, or whatever, without bothering to make it funny? SR4 felt like that to me. Nevermind the fething stupidity of a criminal gang doing soft drink endorsements, it's The Saints baby! And The Saints are so awesome and cool that the devs can do what they like with them, and we'll carry on lapping it up, right?
How difficult would it have been to have a game that's premise was "the Saints go to a new city"? That would have been a nice simple premise. But then that probably would have required more work, so they couldn't just put minimal effort into it and flog it off to gullible consumers like me.

I think the thing that your missing here, apart from a sense of fun, is that the parodies and piss-takes don't rely on the characters. It could be any character in the world climbing up the side of a nuke to Aerosmith, and I would still find it hilarious, because that is ridiculous
I mean, you do realise that the entire game is one big parody right? It doesn't take itself in the slightest bit seriously, and honestly, if you think that you're supposed to take it seriously based on the advertising, then you've completely missed the point that's been poking you in the face.

Reads as someone who wants to play GTA complaining that they bought the wrong game. The first two SR games were decent enough GTA knock-offs, and some folk have not realized the designers moved on to what they wanted to do with the series. Most people really enjoy the direction, as well; the sales back this statement. GTA could learn from the five things listed.
