Well, considering we have a My Little Pony thread I'd figure we could have a thread that appreciates something good.
JoJo is the work of Hirohiko Araki who may or may not be a highlander/vampire and It has given birth to some of the greatest characters of fiction.
JoJo began sometime in the 1980's and has been one of the greatest manga of all time ever since.
Hirohiko Araki's work is currently at the louvre because it's that awesome.
Villains like Dio Brando and Funny Valentine are amongst the awesomest characters in all of fiction.
The story is split up into parts with the current part being part 8.
JoJo has been described as a great writer taking designs from a 5 year old and this is a pretty apt description.
With the Awesome villainous presidency of Funny Valentine (I'd seriously vote for him), The sheer evil of Dio Brando (most known for wrrryyyyyyyyy, mudamudamuda, and za warudo)
The art is notable for its sick poses, unique and differentiated character designs, and beautiful coloring.
Seriously there are over a 100 characters and none of them look vaguely similar.
There's recently been a JoJo anime (awaiting part 3) which kicked silly amounts of ass, and there's an awesome game called JJBA: All Star Battle coming out next week,
I'm not going to spend the next year detailing every awesome scene ever from the manga. This is primarily a thread for fans to talk and for there to be newcomers to the manga.

Finally found my quote from a gym buddy born and raised in South Korea:
"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press.
"It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
"It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.
"It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."

Would this not be covered in the Anime thread? I realize that it's manga and not anime, but there is a enough discussion of both in that thread.

Not really. The anime thread is "what have you been watching". It's not even the same style of thread.

Except that people are discussing what they've been watching, what's coming down the pipeline, and what's good. Also Soladrin talks occasionally about the mangas that he has been reading.

You do understand what an appreciation thread is right?
This is entirely different from a "what have you been watching" thread.
I mentioned this is primarily for fans so if you're not one I'd appreciate if you step on out.

I can leave, sure no problem. As a newcomer to a potentially "awesome" thing as you stated, I feel extremely put off by your attitude to not at least try to tell me about it. Your Opening post doesn't give much information, and it seems to be more of a, "unless you know about this, none of this is going to make sense to you."

I asked the question along the lines of, "can't this be done in another thread" because we already have enough threads about repeated topics in the OT, another one dedicated to a single manga/anime is not helping the clutter. You're free to make the thread, I was just asking if maybe there would be a better way to get people interested in what you're interested in. Also, you insult bronies in the OP, which is generally something that people should not do when trying to bring people into something they like. What is "good" is subjective. While I might enjoy x and you enjoy y, that doesn't mean x is bad because you don't like it or y is bad because I don't like it.

The reason MLP has a thread is because it cannot be covered in another thread, like anime can in the anime thread. IT may be called "What Anime did you watch" but now it just discusses it.

Yeah it can. If I made an animation thread it could be covered there. This is an appreciation thread and it's meant to turn people onto the show and books. If it helps I can give moderately detailed descriptions of the parts.
Phantom Blood (ファントムブラッド Fantomu Buraddo?)
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure volumes 1 to 5. In 1880s Britain, the young Jonathan Joestar meets his new adopted brother Dio Brando who only wants to usurp Jonathan as heir to the Joestar family. However, his attempts are thwarted and when he resorts to using an ancient stone mask, it transforms him into a vampire. Jonathan, with Italian Ripple master Will A. Zeppeli and former street thug Robert E.O. Speedwagon at his side, must now stop at nothing to destroy Dio now that his sights are set on nothing less than world domination.
Sick Details
The bad guy wins...........

Part 2Battle Tendency (戦闘潮流 Sentō Chōryū?)
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure volumes 5 to 12. In 1938 in New York City, Joseph Joestar, grandson of Jonathan, learns that Speedwagon has disappeared upon investigating a strange ruin he has found in Mexico and sets there to look for him. This leads to the revival of one of the Pillar Men, ancient creatures who developed the stone masks from his slumber. Later, three even more powerful Pillar Men are revived in Rome and start their search for a mystical artifact that will grant them true immortality. They poison Joseph twice in their first meeting and he ends up forced to undergo a month-long hellish training under Ripple master Lisa Lisa, alongside Will A. Zeppeli's grandson Caesar to have a rematch with them for the sake of retrieving the antidotes in their possession to save his life and stop their plans.
Sick Details
This part has by far the most manly, awesome, cunning, and BA JoJo ever. His name......Joseph Joestar. He's constantly compared by the fanbase as an in mythos Chuck Norris.
The Pillar Men have pretty cool abilities and the manga randomly goes into detail about stuff like how much force they can exert.

Part 3 Stardust Crusaders (スターダストクルセイダース Sutādasuto Kuruseidāsu?)
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure volumes 12 to 28. In 1989, Joseph seeks out the help of his Japanese grandson Jotaro Kujo, as both of them have developed mysterious powers known as Stands since Dio has come back, now using their ancestor Jonathan's body as his own. And as a result, Joseph's daughter or Jotaro's mother Holy is struck ill by her own Stand killing her from the inside out. Jotaro and Joseph, joined by Mohammed Avdol, Noriaki Kakyoin, Jean Pierre Polnareff, and the dog Iggy, travel across Asia to track down Dio to kill him and save Holy from certain death, battling other Stand-using assassins along the way.
Sick Details
Yes the dog has a stand. Joseph is just as awesome as ever even when he's in his 70's. Jotaro has the best fashion sense of any JoJo. Jotaro's mother is hardly ever seen and it's just an excuse for them to hunt down that rad vampire Dio despite him laying low. Dio is potrayed with a bit more passion and actually show hints of sadness when his minions die. This part has the infamous steamroller and knives while time stopped. It should be noted how well JoJo characters use their powers. In JoJo the characters all get one power and they use it to the max. Stands are psychic powers that are like "ghost bodyguards". They manifest in any number of ways but typically they have a physical body that manifests when the wielder says so. More details on stands can be found on the JoJo wiki. Stand powers are way more creative than from other Manga: A guy with a stand called Green Day that when his power is activated anyone in the world at a lower altitude than he is covered in moss and killed. A stand called Made in Heaven that's the most powerful in the series that causes time to be sped up and the cyclical universe to reset and the wielder to recreate the universe as he sees fit. Etc

Part 4 Diamond Is Unbreakable (ダイヤモンドは砕けない Daiyamondo wa Kudakenai?)
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure volumes 29 to 47. In the fictional Japanese town of Morioh in 1999, Josuke Higashikata, the illegitimate son of Joseph, is asked by Jotaro to help solve a serial killer mystery plaguing the town, found to be a result of a Stand-user producing arrow and a pair of sons who are trying to create a Stand-user to put their father, cursed by Dio, out of his misery. Josuke and his friends Koichi Hirose, Okuyasu Nijimura, the famous manga artist Rohan Kishibe, and even his father and half-nephew work together to stop the serial killer Yoshikage Kira.
Sick Details
The villain is really good but his stand looks really flamboyant.

Part 5 Vento Aureo (黄金の風 Ōgon no Kaze?)
Le Bizzarre Avventure di GioGio volumes 47 to 63. In Italy in 2001, Giorno Giovanna, the son of Dio while he possessed Jonathan's body, wants to be a "gang star", an altruistic mafia boss giving their riches to the poor, and to that end joins Passione. His squad, consisting of fellow Stand-users Bruno Buccellati, Leone Abbacchio, Guido Mista, Narancia Ghirga, and Pannacotta Fugo, are tasked to protect Trish Una who is their boss's daughter from other Stand-using members of the gang who want to learn the identity of their boss, Diavolo.
Sick Details
The villain from this part is pathetic but the main character and stands make this one of the best parts.

Part 6 Stone Ocean (ストーンオーシャン Sutōn Ōshan?
)Stone Ocean volumes 64 to 80. In 2011 near Port St. Lucie, Florida, Jotaro's estranged daughter Jolyne Cujoh is framed for murder and is sent to prison all because one of Dio's disciples wishes to kill her. Jotaro unlocks Jolyne's own Stand powers so she can defend herself, before he is nearly killed by another disciple. Jolyne teams up with fellow inmates and Stand-users Hermes Costello, Weather Report, and Narciso Annasui, the sentient Stand using plankton Foo Fighters, and the young child Emporio Alnino to save Jotaro and stop one of Dio's disciples Enrico Pucci from recreating the world in his master's image.
Sick Details
This part features perhaps the only villain to actually have success. He kills off Jolyne, Hermes, and Jotaro. But in an asspull to prevent the villain from wiining he gets killed in the middle of his world transformation turning the world into part 7.

Part 7 Steel Ball Run (スティール・ボール・ラン Sutīru Bōru Ran?)
Steel Ball Run volumes 81 to 104. In an alternate timeline in 1890, Gyro Zeppeli travels to the United States to take part in a cross-country horse race known as the Steel Ball Run. His skill in a strange steel-ball-based magic known as the Spin garners the interest of former jockey and paraplegic Johnny Joestar, particularly after a Spin-infused ball briefly restores Johnny's ability to walk. Johnny travels with Gyro on the race, until things go awry when it is revealed that the race is all a ploy set up by President Funny Valentine to gather the parts of a mystical corpse that grants Stand powers and world domination, with Valentine assisted by a series of assassins including racer Diego Brando.
Sick Details
President Funny Valentine is by far the best villain so far in the story. He is basically what Joseph Joestar would be like as a villain. His Stand is Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap or D4C. It allows objects and aspects from multiple universes to exist at the same time. This allows him to transfer his conscious to other versions of himself if he gets gravely injured, direct attacks at him to other worlds, summon Dio Brando from Part 3 (Hell yeah), banish people to other worlds, and in theory make any and all alterations to the universe. If he ever masters his stand he'd be beyond marvel cosmic characters.
This Part also has the worst JoJo by far, but Gyro is so crazy awesome it makes up for it. He has gold grills on his teeth. Yeah.

Part 8JoJolion (ジョジョリオン Jojorion?)
The current arc, which started on volume 105, and is set in the same timeline of Part 7. In 2012 the town of Morioh has been devastated by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, and mysterious structures called the Wall Eyes have appeared throughout the town, disrupting roads and utility lines, while seemingly being related to Stand powers. A young man with no memory of who he is is found under one of the Wall Eyes by local college student Yasuho Hirose who helps the boy discover his identity, which they believe to be that of local naval doctor Yoshikage Kira until someone proves them wrong and they later discover the man's body. Now dubbed Josuke, he is adopted by the influential Higashikata family, who may know more about Josuke and several other mysteries around town than they let on.
I don't have any knowledge of this story arc because it has yet to go anywhere. I'll catch up on it in a couple months when the main villain is introduced

I'm insulting bronies because I honestly don't want their presence in this thread for obvious reasons.
Do we honestly not have any JoJo fans on Dakka?

JoJo has way more story and popularity than AoT will ever have. It has an absolute crap ton of story. I can't actually add in any more detail without 30 miniutes of straight typing. Also do you have a war on grammar and spelling?

No, I have a learning disability. Also, if you try to tell people off the bat the story, it will overload them. Im reading your synopsis. I have no idea who those characters are so the synopsis has no meaning.

There are a number of series, but in the one I know about, certain individuals have astral projections called Stands, each of which possesses a specific power. For example, there's and Egyptian man named Avdol, whose Stand can produce magical fire.

The big bad's Stand can stop time. Everyone recognises this as a big deal.

It's not even a shounen. It was one for a while, and while it was it was the best, but the creator started to get too mature. It's currently a seinen. Atleast we have one other JoJo fan.

The stories in the parts are some of the best of what I've read in several hundred Manga. The powers ARE the most creative and absurd I've seen. Character designs are THE best ive seen in several hundred Manga. The coloration is the best from what I've seen. It has some of the best art. It is objectively (factually) speaking an objectively good manga in the same way the Godfather is an objectively good movie.

What makes these stories good? Is it character development, over arching plotline, ability to empathize with the characters, over the top powers and scenes? What determines that the powers of these characters are the most creative? I think that the abilities of the character in Saikano and Elfen Lied are some of the best I've seen, does that make me right? nope! The character design, coloration are all subjective. And what makes it the best Manga? I can point out why the Godfather is cited as one of the best films of all time based on it's soundtrack, and the composition effort that went into that, the fact that it was made decades ago and holds up in comparison to movies made today that made a lot more money, the fact that it is one of the most parodied, most quoted films in popular culture. The characters are believable, the plot exciting, the fact that it set itself up for 2 good sequels. These are things that you can point to and say, "these are why the Godfather is one of the best films of all time.

Multiple Street Fighter, & King of Fighters characters are rip offs of JoJo characters. For example Guile is a ripoff of Stroheim the awesome Nazi (yeah they made a Nazi awesome as an ALLY) Juri Han is a rip off of Jolyne.
There are dozens of memes (oraoraora, mudamudamuda, wryyyyyyyyyyy, Dio's steamroller move, Dio's throwing knives, How many breads have you eaten in your lives, Even Speedwagon is afraid to name a few)
Vast quantities of fans get together on two sides to scream MudaMudaMuda (Dio's phrase) and OraOraOra (Jotaro's phrase)
The Writing is incredibly good in sense of the movement of the plot and the character's plans and plots. I already mentioned why it's good and you're asking too much of someone you don't know to give examples I already said if you're not a fan. Don't comment. Yup, this is pretty much a crux of it. Also it would help if you ya know, pointed people to where they could learn more. Here let me give you an example.

*clears throat*

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a tv show made by Hasbro for their Hub channel. It's an animated show developed by Lauren Faust (who worked on Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Samurai Jack, Power Puff Girls, etc...). It tells the story of Twilight Sparkle, a unicorn in the land of Canterlot that travels to Ponyville to gain real world experience. The show is about the value of friendship amongst a close circle of ponies. These 6 ponies engage in adventure every week with some storylines spanning multiple episodes. While the show is primarily aimed at girls ages 8 to 12, the show offers a lot to adults such as high quality animation, solid story and character development, and the occasional light humor that adults will get. So, if you think this might be something you're interested in, check out the Hub (check local listings) or you can see all 3 seasons on Netflix.

Sprinkle in some art from the show, perhaps a link to where people can find out more, bam!

That's all you really had to do, instead you insulted an entire fandom and a show and then proceeded to dig a deeper hole. I merely asked the question about it going in the Anime thread, because I thought it might be more suited there. but w/e

Again, this entire post drips with pieces of inside jokes that people who don't already read it won't get. Why does oraoraora, mudamudamuda, and wryyyyyyyyyy mean anything to me? I've not seen the show or read the manga. Also telling people to not comment because they're not a fan doesn't really lend itself to discussion.... something that we do on forums.

I merely asked the question about it going in the Anime thread, because I thought it might be more suited there. but w/e

**Calls in all patience***
First off, why are you still here? You said you'd leave if asked.
I'm sorry but if I cant insult a show there's something wrong here.
I mentioned the JoJo wiki a lot in my first explanatory post. You can read the manga anywhere there's manga and you can watch the anime mostly anywhere. I already told you. This is an appreciation thread. If you're not hear to talk about the series I'll have to ask you to just go to another thread.

You're the one posting on something only meant for fans. You're also a fan of the absolute opposite of JoJo which as a series is the epitome of manliness.
No one person can ever be representative of a fanbase. You would be very naïve to believe otherwise.

How do you paint the details on your minis with such a broad brush?

I stepped away, but this post is on the verge of bat-gak crazy... You're painting a very broad swath of bronies and fans of MLP. Hotsauceman1 is a fan of MLP, he's a brony, but he isn't representative of the fanbase. I have a friend, he works out, he is ripped, he's even won a few minor bodybuilding competitions... He is a brony. You would be very naive to believe that all bronies are pastel loving powder puffs just as you would believe that all fans of JoJo are manly men, and honestly... I would feel that you're compensating for something with all of these talks of manliness when comparing a comic book and a tv show...

Edit: As for the thread meant for fans, you're the only one posting here about how awesome JoJo is, and you're posting things in such an abrasive manner that you're driving away the only two people that have made even the slightest attempt at learning more about this inane comic.
