Have you ever gone to excessive leangths to beat someone?
I know I have, one time I was playing against someone who had only played 2 game and I beat him 14/0 and took every point on the board.

I haven't tried my hardest to beat someone, if that's what you mean by "excessive lengths". When (or if) they get beaten by me, I say "great game" hold out my hand and say whether or not they enjoyed the game. As long as they say yes, then I'm happy - priority one is to have a good time, not to win by any degree.

There was one time I beat a friend, he had EXTREMELY bad rolls, and those rolls made the game kind of sucky. I even gave him a few re-rolls just to try and get a good game, it was brutal. But it was just one of those days

Only time I ever felt bad after a win was 1st edition Necromunda right after the Outlanders supplement was released and we discovered how ludicrously wrong that Redemptionists could be when in a scenario where they start out surrounding the opposing gang. My first game in the league and it was about 2/3rds of the way through the league by that point and my opponent was the currently winning gang of Goliaths run by the store owner. They had been stomping the heck out of everyone. Forget the exact scenario, but my gang was deployed in a circle around his. I had multiple flamers, a GL and a ton of those singleshot flamers. I tabled my opponent in 1 turn. Dropped his entire gang, on that one turn and he bottled and ran. His gang rating was nearly 3 times mine and I won in a turn. It was just insane. Only time I ever really felt bad about a win.

A bit actually, when I played at a bigger tournament and due to me early tabling my enemy, later on, I heard him being removed from his team. My victory was just the final nail in his coffin, but I still felt kinda bad because a week afterwards, he decleared he'd quit 40k once and for all :/

Sigvatr y you so mean D:
I wasn't mean actually, he was a decent opponent, but made two really bad mistakes, one time not measuring the shooting distance, then, in the shooting phase, realizing he was out of range by about 1''. The other thing was him forgetting about a unit I purposefully placed out of LOS (real life LOS!). He made a very nervous impression on me and when his team captain came over, he always gave him that "You better take care!" glance. I guess there's been a lot of trouble and pressure beforehand and that's the reason for his mistakes. He was a very nice guy, however. Before the match, we met and we made fun of each other's accents

Couple of times. Frequently, I see tournaments where they are running some odd mission scenario. I have often played to the mission scenario, and in so doing crushed my opponent beyond all belief. I feel a little bad when I do, because I can never be sure if they understood what they were supposed to be doing.
Really, I'm all about giving my opponent a break or even a minor advantage in a friendly game, but in tournaments all leeway goes out the window. Competitive play is cut-throat, and I feel a little guilty whenever I steamroll someone who, perhaps, wasn't expecting such competitiveness.
Finally, I primarily play Drop Pods, and my experience has been that almost everyone loses (very very badly) the first time they play against Drop Pods, because it's such a different dynamic. I usually feel a twinge of guilt if that's the case.
In any event, I hope that helps with what you were looking for.

My first game I ever played was against Orks.
He rolled 2'' for his charge distance -three different times- and I consistently rolled 5's and 6's for my Wraithguard's D3 overwatch hits.
I felt pretty bad because I won on absolutely nothing on luck.
(Also, friendly reminder: always let the *loser* be the first one to say "Good game." If he doesn't, just thank him for the game and go about the business.~)

In a tourney, I'll ask my opponent if they want to just call it if they don't look like they are having fun. Games are met to be fun for both parties, and if I'm just tabling the other guy its not that much fun for them.
If its a friendly game and I'm crushing them, Ill say "Hey, why don't you bring that squad of genestealers that is dead back into the game as outflanking?" If we both know the game is over, we can agree to make it more interesting by bringing additional models. I've done this before to the point where I lost the game.
Its all about making it fun for everyone.

In social play, i've had games where I accidentally curb-stomp my opponent.
I say accidentally, as I try to take a well rounded and fluffy list, but then my codex shines through and starts kicking ass. I play Eldar. So I try to reign it in, and forget that 6's are Ap2, I forget to fire my serpent shields, I forget to battlefocus my guardians and leave them in charge range of those boyz. It's all about making the game fun for everyone involved. I wouldn't forget to win the game though
I played a C: SM player over the weekend, and I blew up both of his Landraiders with lucky Heavy Wraithcannon and Bright Lance shots, before he had the chance to move them. This left the Terminators inside foot-slogging it all game. I shrugged and said "Sorry dude, blame the dice". I felt pretty bad after that game. He played well despite this, but the game was effectively decided with the first 2 shots of the game.

I run an after school 40k program for Jr. High Students and I never feel bad after a good curb stomp. However, throughout the entire game, I'm telling them exactly what they could of done, what rules they forgot, alternate strategies they could employ, basically teaching them to think more tactically. They are always happy, even getting the pants beat off of them because they start to understand how to really play the game.
As a side note, we do spend a ton of time on game etiquette. I want my little guys to be fun to play and not act like snotty brats that I hear about on this forum a lot. So far, the kids get asked to play quite frequently.

I almost felt bad a few weeks back, I played 1000p of my tau vs his nids...
He didnt get a single unit in CC, and i had him tabled by turn 3, he only killed 2 firewarriors in the whole game, I managed to kill 8 genestealers simply by overwatch
It wasnt even fair, I would have felt bad if he wants sceaming soo much, he refuses to play tau now too
I do feel bad for a friend of mine that spent a few thousand dollars building a nice army up, but he truly sucked at the game, never made the right moves, had no concept of strategy, I tabled his eldar with my necrons by turn 4, he said his army sucked, we played the exact same game again but switching armies, I then tabled my own necron with his eldar,
he quit a few weeks ago and sold me his large army for way to cheap, I do feel bad about this

I never have felt bad for winning. I'm not exactly pulling any shenanigans like using super strict LoS rules or telling someone sorry its 2mm out of range, you can't shoot it.
My opponent is offered time to review my list and ask any questions. They can see my codex at any time (they don't have to take my word for it).
Also my lists are built to be competitive without the need for questionable units such as riptides and heldrakes.
If someone feels bad after playing me, that's entirely on them for having wacky expectations or having a WAAC mentality.

Similar for me (just senior high). I try to take fluffy lists (everyone in rhinos and lots of tac squads), or less than optimal units (like honour guard... though it looks like that's gonna change), intentionally take no flyers or only one anti-flyer unit... and I still stomp most of the players, I've even played games at 80% the points of the opponent. I do feel bad sometimes, but until I run 4 heldrakes in a BL list or 3 squads of DCA in LR, I don't think I'll feel guilty. To give them credit, I often have very close games going into turn 3/4, but they almost never end close (I've always been a stronger closer than an opener, even in chess or the like).

Yup, the first game I ever played with my Necrons.
I was already nervous because of how people QQ they are "overpowered" and everything.
My list was Tesla-heavy and I was extremely lucky.
My opponent played Nids and was extremely unlucky.
I annihilated almost his entire army in T2 and he only took out two Immortals (only because I teleported them and scattered right into his front-line).

This mentality has always blown my mind. Yes, yes it is Candyland. You are playing a game that amounts to little kids playing with old school green army men but with a little more rules tacked on. This game is like an advanced version of risk. Seriously, step back if you honestly believe that this game is serious business, you are playing a game were hooligan orks fight mary sues from outer space over what is usually a random piece of ground. This game is more absurd than Candyland.
Back on topic,
Last night I played an extremely fluffy list against a good friends tournament list. He loves the hell out of his Death Wing and tries to make them as tournament able as possible. At 1750 I was playing a Slaneesh CSM and CD list with Fabius Bile, Lucius, a Keeper of Secrets, 20 man blobs of Space Marines with CCW, Cultist, and Deamonette blobs with a Soul Grinder and Defiler. My Defiler poped a Las Pred and Whirlwind with some ridiculously lucky rolls with the battle cannon. I got invisibility, puppet master, and psychic shriek on the Keeper of Secrets. My Warlord trait was the Black Legion one that gives you PE Space Marines. Everything about the game was going my way and yes, I felt bad at the end when I tabled him because everything was going my way. Yes, he had a Terminator Sergeant with a power sword kill Lucius, that was funny in itself but that was about all he got done that game.

I kinda felt bad when I played my nephew who had just started 40k. He was playing chaos and had a terrible army. He used all the models he had and the only army I had available for that point level (1500) was my daemon flying circus. I made the worst list I could with my available models and went easy on him but I still destroyed him by turn 3.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

That first entry into a tourney, especially now that optimization has become such a big thing can be a painful experience for the uninitiated, but it is part of the process. Either they never play a tourney again because they dislike the dynamic or the next year they come back with a much tighter and competitive list because they learn from the experience.
As for your comments of your dad, I will say that the first time I ever beat my father at chess was one of the most awesome days of my life. So I definitely know that situation.

Kinda. Recently there was a local Tournament. I brought my new and highly optimized tau list. My opponent was a 12 year old boy whose dad just bought him a new necron army. I had two options. Loose and not get the prize money. OR crush a little boys brand new army. I went for the obvious choice. Money. His dad got so pissed at me though when he returned "Why didnt you let him win" and so forth
