My problem isn't that my teams are bad per se... it's that they find ways to lose....
The Yankees.. well, theyre never really that bad, and do still pull off the occasional world series title (only 27 of them thus far)
The Raiders... Now that Al Davis is dead, I had hoped that we'd make some smart player moves and get good coaches, etc. Turns out, the new folks are AD 2.0
The Canucks... Good enough to make it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals, only to get beat by their own idiocy.
The Highlanders... I'll admit, I am new to Super Rugby, and I chose the 'Landers based purely on their team colors and unis.... But then I looked at their roster, and the pre-season hype surrounding them.... But they just could not pull it together except for a couple of games.
The Harlequins, or Saints, or Wasps.... Yeah, I can't decide which Aviva Premiership club I like best, but between the 3 they tend to be pretty good, even if they do have the occasional lapse in play.

So dakka, what rubbish teams do you follow? Do any of them have a record to challenge my beloved bunnies? Have they seen any amazing revivals in the last few years/at some point in your lives? I'm just in such a damn good mood about this all that I wanted to share, and hear your stories as well.
The bunnies aren't loving you? the most premierships in the comp don't love you? HTFU I say! I used to go for North Sydney bears, they won twice , once in 1922 and 1921. Now they can't even manage to get back into the competition as the central coast bears., now THAt's a loser team, they could only win because all the other teams died of spanish flu .
I'm thinking about going for the bunnies though, if they stop this good team/ winning form business they might be the perfect team to follow.,Or optionally if they follow the bears tried and true method of bowing out early in the finals that could be an even better fit for me.
As for reducing the competition what will that do chromedog? Took me 13 years after they axed my team before i could consider choosing a new team, most bears fans now go for the sydney swans. I've never understood this idea of making the comp smaller. You need to change the social culture of sydney and make going to sports on the weekend more popular (look at melbourne for example) , not make the comp smaller.

Oh the love me and I love them, but then you get games like our end of season game against the knights a few years ago where we were playing for 8th spot, and they didn't even show up to the field basically, they just phoned it right in.

Poor Bears. They need an angry kiwi and a rich aussie to help float them back into the NRL, everyone does really.
On another note, 4 and a half hours to go. Come on bunnies. Favourites on sportsbet (or whoever nrl.com lets advertise on their page), and from the sounds of it basically everyone is in their best positions, fully fit, and ready to go!

To drive it home, winning the first three games of their 2007 season was their best start since '72...and they haven't won the actual premiership since '71. I would have to be nearly twice as old as I am to have been on earth when that happened.
I was here, all of two years old, and living in Leichhardt - with a dad who followed the round-ball sport. The wife works with someone who PLAYED in that game (71).
I give him crap about the bunnies when I see him. He bites, every time, too.
As for reducing the competition what will that do chromedog? Took me 13 years after they axed my team before i could consider choosing a new team, most bears fans now go for the sydney swans. You can't compare the sporting cultures in Melbourne and Sydney. They don't even come close to each other and never will. NRL isn't a national game and never will be.
For one, it's NOT a sporting culture in Melbourne. It's more akin to a religious cult following. It gets them talking about something other than crap weather or whinging about Sydney. (Now there's a cultural stereotype. What's the difference between Melbourne and Sydney? Melbourne doesn't care that Sydney isn't Melbourne.)
Not barracking for a team in Melbourne is akin to saying that "you don't go to church" in large parts of the USA.
Cutting teams would probably make it easier to get people to games as it splits the crowd who care about it into fewer groups.
It would stop teams splitting, and re-merging when it is shown that the areas can't support a team regardless of how much the community whines about wanting one.
I will follow something up to a point - and then drop it like something dead and icky.
I've never found anything remotely appealing in following a sporting team of whatever stripe or sport, however. Possibly a backlash to my dad being a rabid sports nut.
More people go to see sporting games in melbourne because they CAN.
Public transport to the games is readily available - so you don't have to find somewhere to park the car. No matter where the game is in melbourne, you can get PT to get to it.
The tickets are cheap. You don't have to take out a mortgage to get a family to the game.
This is not the case in Sydney.

Perhaps chromedog, ticket prices and public transport issues could be fixed before axing teams. Axing teams just pisses people off and makes them disinterested, it doesn't make them think oh theres only 8 teams now ill go for my old teams rival's now.
Apparently the a league is doing a much better job of p'roviding transp''ort nowdays, p'erhap's the nrl could look at that first .

God damn it. Its getting well away from us. Its just heartbreaking. Heartbreaking all around. This is just textbook fan abuse. It really is. Maybe next year we'll take it. This game does nothing for my hopes re: the actual premiership either. If we play this way we'll lose two straight and get dropped straight out of the running. And to answer the question I posed in the title? At least one more year clearly. At least one more year.

The perennial song of the bunny ...
"There's always next year"
Making it easier to get to the games, and cheaper seats would help with that game - especially since it was supposed to be the game for the "everyman" (in the same way that rugger is for those toffee nosed gits, and the round-ball sport is for them "furriner" types.
Oh, and for those who weren't aware - you can blame Oxford university for having that round ball game called "Soccer". The "er" thing was their thing. Rugger, etc. Association football became SoCcer because of them.

If the bunnies keep this form up in the final's i might have a new team to support
What was lacking that game was options in attack , good hard straight running is fine, but if it isnt supported by people in motion around it ,it is never going to do much in the modern game. Also bunnies centres are woeful , sam burgess is a ball hog (twice) and jesus, do i ever hate warea-hargreaves. Automatically Appended Next Post: chromedog wrote:The perennial song of the bunny ...

But are the Cubs the richest & most profitable team in MLB?
They may have gone much longer between championships, but the Loafs;
a. Play to a sold-out crowd pretty every home game
b. Boast the highest profit margin of any other team in their league, while routinely missing the play-offs for years at a time
c. Play in a league where roughly 50% of the teams get into the play-offs! (a .500 or slightly above record is usually good enough to nab 7th or 8th spot in the conference)
The Cubs may have sucked for far longer, but at least their fans don't blindly give huge profits to them for it...

Warriors, Titans, Storm, Raiders, Roosters, Panthers, Tigers, Bulldogs, Cowboys, Broncos, Eels, Sea Eagles, Sharks, Dragons, Knights are the other teams (I may be missing one, but I none are coming to me as I type and I'm too lazy to think too hard).
Stories passed from father to son down the generations tell of a band of poor men who used to wear the red and green. They'd catch rabbits before the game and sell them, crying "Rabbit-oh!" to attract the attention of potential buyers, before ducking off to play for their beloved team in their blood smeared jerseys.
Not sure how factual it is, but that's apparently why we are called the Rabbitohs.

You do know that every other animal in this country wants to kill you and devour your flesh, right? Even the sheep?
(Pratchett loves this country - because he took the piss out of us in a good way ).
The python bunny was an aussie expat.
That is whom the rabbitohs are named after. The carnivorous bunny. The red is for the spilled blood of its prey. The green is for the decaying flesh that it hasn't eaten.
(or perhaps the green is just the colour of the fans when they see other teams winning the cup time and time again, whilst for their poor bunnies - nada. )

Nada indeed, 20 premierships, the most of any team We can't help but bite you see, further reinforcing the belief in killer rabbits. My particular favourite win was 1909. Never underestimate the wascally wabbits http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1909_NSWRFL_season

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own... |

Meh, no Canadian team - especially the Habs after the last time! will ever hoist the Cup while Little Hitler & cronies are running things... there's no $$$ to be made up here since we already dump silly amounts of money into our team.
The real $$$ to be made in their eyes is to expand the game south of the border, especially into the southern states so we can have games played on craptacular ice in near-empty buildings.
At least the Habs routinely make the play-offs, something the Loafs haven't been able to do since the 90's!

True. But that doesn't console you very much when you watch them blow it almost every time. Then they trade the goaltender that got them to the Conference Finals.
