Washed my connectors for the deadzone scenery. Gonna sit up tonight (if my newborn co-operates) and wash the other side of the panels and then it's done. I've thought about adding rust to the metallics and I may do that on sunday...or I may not.
Excited to have time to put it together for some test fits on Monday or Tuesday!

Got thd last if my (current) Sci-Fi lot primed and started painting Asterians for Deadzone/Firefight.
I'm using a simple, mostly metal, paint scheme, so hopefully I can get through the infantry quickly.
I have concrete texture for the bases, but need to think of a way to make it more interesting.

Who the #%^& at GW thought it was a good idea to make the muzzle of each Plasma Incinerator a tiny 2-part bit that then needs attaching to the gun? WHY??? Its firmly in the category of "things you shouldn't need to assemble".

Well, I gave my Deadzone terrain a go and was in the end frustrated. I think I'm gonna need to get some tools to help me (a filing stick and something other than my fingers to press the connectors in with) but for now it's going in the box while I finish the accessories that came with the actual buildings.
Probably just going to do a quick contrast paint job on them.
Greenstuff cast the shields I need for my Dark Elf spearmen. Now just trying to complete their construction. It's hard to find a good angle for the banner that doesn't have it covering up most of my models. Might have to get creative and use brass rod if I can't figure it out.
Also worked on an Empire Swordmen detachment I half starter for my Mordheim warband. Figured I'd get them all done after also 15 years of sitting unpainted.

Finally done with my Thousand Sons infantry I had on my work station!
With 10 Rubrics done (for 50 total) and 5 Scarabs done (for 10), that leaves me with only 5 more Scarabs and Ahriman as infantry to do! That's a pretty good chunk of the army painted at this point!
Fantasy armies - Retired (Tomb Kings, Vampires, Empire, Chaos Warriors/Daemons, Dark Elves)
Tyranids army - Ever evolving, but about 10k pts
Custodes - 3,500pts (Fully painted yay!)
Thousand Sons - 4,000 pts
Eldar - 3,000pts

Hopefully playing my next Crusade game later this afternoon/early evening.
The universe keeps conspiring to stop this from happening though:
●2 weeks ago my foe had to reschedule due to work.
●So we set it for this past Sunday - and were hit by sub-0 temps & 2 feet of snow.
So we set it up for today.
●And now I'm sitting at my local garage as I wait for them to squeeze me in after almost every light on my cars dash lit up as I was on the way to the shop....

After a bit of fiddling I got my first Deadzone building done. I think doing buildings which are only 1 tile deep is the way to go to get the most out of what I've got, because I'm pretty low on normal roof or floor tiles to do the roofs.
I might touch up some of the wash on these at some point. I used a paintbrush handle to hammer in uncooperative pegs, so I'll need a golf tee or something to get them out. Built the most basic building I think everyone does with this, a little watchtower. Next I'll do a fast food hut, and a little tech-y building, and then a bunch of ruins.
Taking new photos of my models with a black background and better light. Replacing the Imgur pictures with them hosted on Dakka.
Evolution of my photo methods.
And in tonight's Crusade match I had the joy of demonstrating to a rather opinionated spectator (also one of the Crusaders) the value of a well played aircraft.
In this case the lowly Admech Archaeopter Transvector. In Aircraft mode.
It's a flying heavy stubber platform with a transport cap of 11 Skitari/Tech-Priest infantry. Hmm, whatever can I do with that???
Spectator opined that this is a worthless unit, NOBODY uses it, & that I should've brought something better. And of course offered a few suggestions. Or at least use it in Hover mode! Even though he's not an Admech player. Of course he completely failed to account for things like the force I was playing against, or the mission we were playing.... Or the intangible narrative aspect of why there's a Transvector in my list to start with (my opponent knew why)
I just smiled.
Afterall, Spectator A) has yet to win a single game in now two Crusades, B) has zero knowledge of the narrative behind my force. There IS a narrative reason I have all three Archaeopters in my Crusade roster & specifically a Transvector in this list. Over the next several rounds he got to witness this "worthless" thing drop units deep into my foes DZ (the primary way I, as the attacker, was supposed to win this mission), murder & terrorize several squads of Cadians with 18 Sustained 1, TL stubber shots (allowing other units to focus on more vital tasks/targets), move block a Leman Russ, & then on T5 scoot all the way across the board to allow me to complete my Tech Scavengers Agenda.
Not too shabby for a worthless unit nobody uses.

Put together 5 corner ruins from my deadzone terrain. The ruins are a lot easier to build than the intact buildings, and the pieces go a lot further.
I didn't build many 3 storey ruins though, because you'd always need the at least 3 intact panels to do so. I made a ruined version of the watchtower because I had a spare "tower strut".
Fingers are killing me now! I have all these little rubble pile pieces and I sort of assumed they'd clip together into free standing rubble piles, but I'm surprised and disappointed to find that's not the case? I don't really get the point of them so, because they also don't really interact with the building pieces? I'll probably do some cutting and get them to work but it's a bit baffling.
Packing for games night tomorrow and working on some Warmachine.

Alright so, while I was busy this weekend I did manage to finish a few things and move them off my pile.
To start, working on my Mordheim warband meant I dipped into some models I use for WHFB. Which meant that I started a unit and I'll be damned if I will keep it a quarter painted! So I figured since I started I might as well finish the unit. So I banged out 4 more models.
Four more swordmen for my Empire mercenary detachment. It's a 10 man unit so with these done, and the three I have already finished, that just leaves three more which I already have on my desk waiting to be base coated. Soon I'll have another unit that's been sitting unpainted for over a decade done!
Now continuing my hobby A.D.D. Seeing as Kings of War 4th edition is out a lot of the old sets are now discontinued. I was lucky my local FLGS had a box on discount that I snapped up awhile ago. Specifically the Nightstalkers. Now I don't really plan on making an army for it, but the models are awesome and I wanted to do something different with them so I started with this test model.
Now he came out a lot bluer than I would have wanted. It turns out Vallejo "Dark Blue" isn't really that dark, but I decided to work with it and I think he came out fine. Now I just have to build the other 5 models and the 10 Reaper/Tormentors and then figure out what the hell I'm going to use them for.
