So the codex is out now, wondering what do they do?

They do damage?

If you are asking for specifics, all I can really say is check the codex. This site is not a replacement for the rules.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I might not play marines and therefore not have a codex. I also might not be loaded and therefore unable to afford the codex.

I also think your response is plain rude.

It's not like they're in the rule book to look at.

I don't think he was trying to be rude. It is actually against dakkas rules to post stats of units on the site. Got to stay of the good side of GW's lawyers.

To be honest, we already have three threads about Graviton-weapons in General, Tactics and YMDC.
We also have had the rumours for weeks and they are 100% accurate.

And? If you play against a Marine player, ask to see the rules. The only reason they would not show you is because they plan on cheating. (Disclaimer: there might be other reasons but none pop to mind).

I also think your response is plain rude.

It is possible. I was not intending to be rude, however, dakkadakka can get in legal trouble with GW if people post rules from the rulebooks, codices, army books, etc.

It's not like they're in the rule book to look at.

No they are not, but they are in a codex which we are not supposed to post information from here.

...and likely not even then. WE are not employees of Dakka and WE are not making any money on the knowledge and you sure as spunk aren't going to be able to make an army list based on knowing what the dang weapon does.

If only there was a way of reading the rules in the codex without actually buying the codex. Alas...

I don't see anybody kicking up a stink about the posting of 40k rules in that thread, so why this not this one too?

Sorry, but this is a cop-out. I'm rather poor myself yet I managed to put away a bit of cash in the lead-up the get the book on release.

Also, if you don't play Marines, why do you need to know? If you are playing a Marine player they can show you in their Codex. And if you want to play Marines yourself you will need a Codex to play. Either way, you don't need to try beat around the bush on Dakka to find out.

Because there's a difference between the sharing of information in a mutually beneficial discussion and posting rules because somebody who is clearly looking for a run-around from buying the Codex wants them.

They are not supposed to post the rules. It just tends to get over-looked a lot. However, every time somebody asks a question like "What does "X" do?" they are almost always told to check the rulebook/codex.

Most of the rules posting tends to involve discussions on how some of the more complicated things work (i.e. EL vs SA).

His response didnt seem rude to me at all.

The thing is, if you dont know what a particular weapon does, you arent supposed to use Dakka as a place for people to post stats/effects etc. I would suggest just having a quick leaf through the codex next time you go to your FLGS or local GW.

Most of the rumour threads pretty much stated the effects of the guns anyway. Try searching the forums with this sort of question as it will often turn up an answer.

This site isnt meant to be a replacement for rulebooks and codexes

Can we just find out what grav weapons do?

1. Go to FLGS on a 40K game night.
2. Announce to no one in particular "I have over 10,000 points of Space Marines".
3. Sit back and watch as some 30-ish Neckbeard who still lives with his parents not only disputes your claim, but goes on to describe his 30,000 points of Blood Angels and how he has been playing since Rogue Trader days... And yet you will have never seen him either play 40K or that army.
4. From here, you have several options. Continue the conversation, or just end it. Either way, I guarantee you will waste 1+ hour of your life talking to this guy. Have fun!
