Subject: Which Landspeeder would be best?

Hey guys. Recently I have been gathering the models and stuff I need for getting my army started and so far it is going good. Running my own chapter based of the White Scars Chapter Tactics, I currently have:
*Khan
*Captain or Chapter Master
*Command Squad w/Bikes
*3x to 4x (6x) man Bike Squads, each w/an attack bike
*2x Stormtalons w/Twin-Linked Lascannons
As you can see, I have a good number of units for my list and the vast majority I purchased through the Ravenwing Battle box set as its a great deal to get a number of bikes. However, I now alos have 3x Landspeeders and I am currently unsure on what to do with them and how to run them. At the moment, I am liking the Multi-Melta/hvy flamer combo, as it is very flexible and gives me options to take out both anti-tank and infantry all in one package, however many have suggested I run the Typhoon for long ranged fire-support. Anyways, just want to hear your thoughts and opinions in which one would be the most effective in a bike list or why. And if you have an idea not mentioned in the polls then let me know what it is. Thanks again mates.

I voted other. In my view the best land-speeder combo is to double-up on weapons that are short ranged, and deep-strike into position. My heavy flamer speeder is one of the most effective units in my list - it can put some serious hurt on almost any infantry squad, and is especially useful against the squishy tau and eldar you see a lot of these days. And all for only 60 points! Deep-striking required a little bit of luck, but when it does work it's devastating. The double-melta speeder is more expensive, but is great for hitting enemy vehicles. If you land in short range of anything except an eldar grav tank, it's in serious trouble, especially if you're shooting at the sides or read. I've always felt that the HF/MM speeder is a bit of a waste in 6th edition where you can fire two weapons while moving 12" - whatever you're shooting, one weapon is pretty much wasted. If you want to see the double HF one in action there are some examples of its use in the battle reports in my sig.

Typhoon master race. Lets you stay at 48", meaning they're untouchable unless the enemy wastes anti-tank guns on them.

The heavy bolter and assault cannon is by far the best setup for killing troops and things. Your bike will have melta guns/grav guns, so you need some horde control. Try that.

Thats why I was leaning towards one of the other variants other then the typhoon. The range and 2x S8 missiles are a good option, but I have plenty of range as my list should be getting into my opponents face by turn 1, as I have Khan in my army and all my units on bikes get the scout ability, so range shouldn't be a major issue. Also I have 2x Stormtalons w/Assault Cannons and Twin-Linked Lascannons so I feel confident that I have the range to deal with most opponents, which is why I was leaning towards one of the tornado variants. Also, I should mention I will be running a squadron of 3x Landspeeders, so Deep Striking for the most part wont be an option.

I recommend double HBs. A squadron of them puts out so many shots that even terminators and MCs are not safe and they eat through hordes like nothing. They are also much cheaper than AC/HB and don't have to get into small arms range to be effective.

I second this for horde killing. 30 pts less than AC/ HB for one less shot, more range and loss of rending but with 3 that's still 18 S5 AP 4 shots with a 48" threat range. 12 hits,10 wounds on t3, 8 on t4 and as most hordes are 5+ saves you end up almost wiping a squad in one go.

I tend to run MM/AC. They have the same range and both can be turned to anti-infantry or anti-tank roles.

Rommel 44, can you tell me what you used to build your Khan and command squad on bike? (you can send me a PM if you do not want to derail your thread)

Lots of conversions and other bits from other box sets, along with 5x extra bike bodies and bikes from the Ravenwing Battle Force. Best way to do it in my opinion. So what landspeeder variant do you like best then paqman and why lol?
