If you're at all plugged-in to “what’s happening,” you are likely aware of the cultural tidal wave that is Miley Cyrus. And for those of us that are tired of riding that wave, there’s now an app for that.

A new extension for Google’s Chrome browser called No Cyrus will block any mention of “Miley Cyrus, twerking and her other ridiculous words,” the developer claims. The plug-in (which can be downloaded here) scans any pages loaded in your browser and censors out the targeted keywords by replacing them with a series of number signs (or hashtags, for the Twitter set).

So, despite Miley’s threats of “can’t stop” and “won’t stop,” users can now browse the Internet, never having to be any the wiser of who or what she’s ######## on...or around...or whatever.

It should be noted that this trick has been done before. One Chrome extension, Chris Brownout, even goes as far as to block the infamous pop star’s name and pictures from your web pages.

No word yet on whether the developers of No Cyrus will eventually add in picture censoring. Regardless, for those tired of Cyrus's pervasive media presence, this Chrome extension seems like a legitimate reason for a party in the USA.

IMO picture censoring is absolutely mandatory. Killing links isn't as important as removing that... creature's mug shot off of my interwebs.

It's just like the Britney Spears phase when I was younger. We didn't have stuff to block Britney, why do we need this? She hasn't even done a 'no-panty' shot yet, so she isn't even on Britney's level. Lets leave the blocking of Miley until AFTER the upskirt, shall we?

On topic, I don't care enough about her one way or the other to install such a plugin. The only pervasive factor she is in my life is, similar to Bieber, here at Dakka with people constantly complaining about her.

Well, I think it wasn't so much that, as Gaga and Madonna are pretty good at this sort of thing, so much as how much she came across as trying so very hard to want to be like that. It is like the PK going around with a beer in his hand trying to convince everyone he really is a wild man, really, he is. PLEASE BELIEVE ME. I think it is more of a schadenfreude thing, but I am not that in touch with all of it so I can't really say for sure. I do think it was hilarious that her dad was on the board of the conservative media watch group that denounced her. That had to be a bit awkward.
