It is my 6 year anniversary on Sunday. My beloved promised the new SM codex as a gift, and duly pre-ordered it (well, I did it on her behalf) BUT I am not allowed it until Sunday, so I still haven't read it!!! Going mad. Getting the shakes.

Meanwhile she is wearing the £150 bracelet I bought her.

:(

The last thing i want to do is hurt you. But it is on my list.

You may wish to talk to her about that. Double standards are usually not a good sign. But I'm sure she has her reasons.

@OP: Sounds like you're lucky that your beloved accepts your wargaming. Congrats on the anniversary, as well.

You should have waited to give her the bracelet until you got the codex. It's not far off, you can last. And if it make the wife happy to give you your gift on the actual day, go with that. Marriage is too important to keep score over little things. It all evens out in the end.

And grats on the anniversary!

Dude... At least you celebrate anniversaries.

During the 4 years I was married to my now ex wife, she did nothing for our anniversaries.

I took her to Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution at the MK BOWL (which cost a freekin fortune) and I didn't even get a thank you.

I never got Birthday or Xmas presents either.

Consider yourself lucky.

This is super true. Keeping score is a great way to ruin things.

Yikes, no wonder you guys are no longer together. Torturing your significant other is no way to maintain a relationship.

Anyway, this is a very minor issue. Still one worth having an honest talk about, but you are as much to blame for giving it to her early.

I'm sure you'll fondly remember this as another "Gosh wasn't I dumb" moment in the future.

You should've kept the bracelet till sunday.

Make it clear that if she wanted it early, there'd be room for bargaining...strokes beard...

My wife thinks £20 is enough for a birthday - I regularly spend £100+ on her.

I'm now doing itemised birthday lists and saying - you can get me anything off that and it's all good.

Cheapest thing on there is about £95

Subtle I know...

Pretre said it best - so I'll 2nd/3rd/4th it however many people have already said it

This is all true - about being lucky anyway. I have got some matching earrings for her for Sunday too, which she doesn't know about. She got the bracelet early because we usually go on holiday for our anniversary but had to go early this year.

Still, it is driving me loopy knowing that the codex is in the house... is it Sunday yet?

Wait and see.

I got my wife "useful" gifts for Christmas, told her mother, but kept the painting she always wanted as a surprise.

She got REALLY upset as she got the "trinkets" so the freaking out when I brought the painting was that much better.

She may have got you better stuff separately than you.

If she did not, you may want to discuss what her motivation to make you wait was for. If not a good reason, let the carnage ensue.

I used to celebrate my "anniversary" with my snugglefox. Basically, the day Pouncey became his pet (It's an Internet furry harem thing). (and I call him my snugglefox because his character is basically an anthropomorphic fox elemental with ten tails)

...[While interesting this is somewhat off topic and contains more detail than is appropriate for the forum, so I have removed it. Kilkrazy.]...

And the whole thing just got less special every year.

Whats a book compared to 6 years of marriage? I mean don't get me wrong, I love books but they aren't worth causing a marital tiff over. Better to just play the waiting game.

Funny how in our efforts to do something "special' for the ones we care for, we drive them batty in the process.

Oh relationship games. How much fun they are.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Of course, we'd celebrate by having cybersex all day. <snip>
Glad the relationship was fun while it lasted... disturbing, but at least meant well.
Almost gave me pause like when a co-worker of mine had to go on a business trip with me and said they had clear it with their "master".
Not funny name for husband, but the real deal... still making sense of that one.
Anyway, yes, it could be worse, just love hearing the reason or motivation of why people do things.

Ahh, here we get to the crux of the matter.
If you had to go early this time, I would've recommended to just talk it over and basically timewarp everything, trip and presents. For both of you, obviously. I'm sure she would have understood if the present-issue would have been part of the travel decision. Next time, maybe?

Also, congratulations.
