Uncrowding (probably not a word) the elite slots would help, and making the middle tier bugs (lictors, warriors, raveners, etc) more useful/survivable would be nice. Some sort of leniency on the allies chart. Allying with themselves (as the rumor goes) isn't nearly as useful as Tau bringing in Eldar, or even Space Marines bringing in Space Marines with a different chapter tactic. Right now it just mean bringing in more of the same.
Allies for Nids won't really open up unless
GW bites the bullet and does a Genestealer cult supplement. This won't happen until after the
IG book is released, since it would like result in a melding of the two armies. I foresee assault nids getting faster, but slightly more expensive, and shooty nids remaining about the same (with some slight point/weapon tweaks). No doubt there will be another flying bug to make the Harpy boxed set a 2-build box.
So far, I've been genuinely impressed with the flexibility of the 6th edition releases. C:
SM and Chaos Daemons are my armies of choice, and I've always got about 3-4 different builds listed out. I've recently been helping a friend of mine learn the game and build more unique
CSM lists (those that don't just spam heldrakes), and I'm seeing a lot of overlooked possibilities there. Granted, these are not tournament builds, but they are competitive in a friendly non-tourney game environment.
