Subject: Ancient Enemies Battle Reports_Adepticon Primers [Update: 1850 pt Taudar at GBU14]
One of the things that I will be changing in my list is to move a marker drone over to my Buff Commander and add Target Lock to my IA riptide at the expense of a kroot warrior. When I need to play more aggresively, this will allow the drone to fire at a unit that I want to charge (and stay protected in CC) while also allowing the target locked riptide to fire at a separate unit.
1) Experimental rules were significantly downgraded to bring it on par with other Tau options. There is no 4++ vs shooting. The AP value was changed from AP3 to AP4. It can not purchase EWO (USR Interception). If you ripple fire its two guns, then you can't fire in the following turn (there is significant debate whether this would be FAQ or clarified as Game Turn as without EWO you wouldn't be able to fire during the next player (opponet's) turn anyways. Given these changes I feel the broadside team is comparable and with them I get marker drones.
2) Rules are still experimental.

Oh, the first set of experimental rules was crazy good...4++ vs shooting, could take all normal riptide support systems, AP3, ripple fire wasn't restricted on top of gaining +1 WD and T.

Grab Your Battle Brother 2000pt Team Event
I plan on attending this with a friend who will be bringing his own necrons but a similar list to Gits.
Spoiler:
Although the name suggests you will be Battle Brothers with your team mate this is not the case, all teams will be a variation of allies of convenience. However, if your teammate brings the same army as you or brings an army that you are Battle Brothers with then you will benefit from the Battle Brother special rules.
Entrance fee will be $30 per team ($15 per person) and all the fees will go towards the prize pay out. We will do 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Best Painted based on attendance. Registration starts at 9:15 with dice hitting the table at 10:00am.
Please bring your COdex (physical or Digital), models with the properly represented wargear (no proxies), and three copies of your list. Conversions are alright as long as a player can tell what the model is when being played.
Escalation, Formations, Imperial Armor, and the GW Apocalypse book will not be used for this event. The only Data Slates allowed will be Bel' Lakor (sp) and Cypher. Digital Codexs and Supplements will be legal as well as Forgeworld Space Marine Chapter Tactics (you must have them printed out). Inquisition will function only as its own army. You can not, for example, play Codex Imperial Guard then take IQ allies while your teammate is a Space Marine player.
Army Composition:
Each Player will be allowed the following Force Organization Chart
1 HQ 1-3 Troops
0-1 Elite
0-1 Fast
0-1 Heavy
Each player may increase either the Fast, Heavy, or Elite slot by one but not the same slot their teammate has chosen. Instead of increasing a slot you may take a non Stronghold Assault Fortification.
No team may take two of a Named Character.
Mission Special Rules
Assassination: Choose an enemy character. If the character is dead or in reserve when the game is finished, gain 1 VP. Gain an addition 1 VP if the character was the warlord and is dead.
Field Superiority: If a turn goes by and you have eliminated a unit while your opponent has not you gain 1 VP. This can only be gained once per game.
Suicide Squad: Choose a non HQ unit your team owns and mark it. If that unit has been removed as a casualty then you gain 1 VP.
Seek and Destroy: Choose one of your opponents Troop units, if that unit is dead or in reserve by the end of the game you gain 1 VP. If the unit has not arrived on the table by Turn 3 you may choose another unit currently on the table that is not locked in an assault.
Unstoppable Warrior: You gain 1 VP for each Challenge your teams Warlord wins.
Punch Their Defenses: If your team has a scoring or denial unit in the opposing teams Deployment Zone you gain 1 VP. The unit can't score this VP if it moved into the area on the final turn.
Tactical Weakness: If your team killed two of the same name non troop unit you gain 1 VP.
Heavy Metal: Heavy support units are considered scoring units, vehicles do not count if immobilized. Each team also scores 1 VP for each enemy Heavy Support unit that has been completely destroyed. Units falling back at the end of the game, and units that are not on the board at the end of the game count as destroyed for the purpose of this mission.
Fast Recon: Fast Attack units are considered scoring units, vehicles do not count if immobilized. Each team also scores 1 VP for each enemy Fast Attack unit that has been completely destroyed. Units falling back at the end of the game, and units that are not on the board at the end of the game count as destroyed for the purpose of this mission.
Elite Cadre: Elite Units units are considered scoring units, vehicles do not count if immobilized. Each team also scores 1 VP for each enemy Elite unit that has been completely destroyed. Units falling back at the end of the game, and units that are not on the board at the end of the game count as destroyed for the purpose of this mission.
Round One
Secondary Objectives
Seek and Destroy
Heavy Metal
Punch Their Defenses
Primary Objective
Retrieve the Prisoner: Each team places a Prisoner Objective in their deployment zone. The Prisoner objective functions just like the Relic from the 40k 6th Edition Rule Book but scores with the following differences:
• If you control the Prisoner Objective your team placed you gain 2 VP • If you control the Prisoner object your opponents placed you gain 4VP
• If no unit is controlling the Prisoner Objective your opponent placed then you gain 1 VP
Round Two
Secondary Objectives
Unstoppable Warrior
Elite Cadre
Suicide Squad
Primary Objective
Eradication: Each team must choose one method before deployment; this method of eradication will determine how each team scores the mission. Units in reserve at the end of the game are considered to be destroyed.
• Method One: Bathing in Blood
o Your team gains 1 VP for each unit killed belonging to the opposing team.
• Method Two: Remove the Head of the Beast
o Your team gains 1 VP for each 150pts you’ve destroyed of the opposing team.
Round Three
Secondary Objectives
Field Superiority
Fast Recon
Tactical Weakness
Primary Objective
Data Retrieval: For this mission, use the rules for the Scouring found in the Warhammer 40,000 6th ed rulebook. In addition to those rules, the first unit to successfully capture an objective must roll a D6. On a 1, 2, or 3 the explosive rigged to the information case goes off and the unit suffers a S4 AP- hit for each point the objective was worth and the files contents were corrupted thus the objective is worth half its value rounded up, on a 4+ the information survived ad the player scores the full printed value if the objective is held at the end of the game.

Well Adepticon has come and gone and this post will conclude the Ancients trail to the Adepticon Team Tourney:
So we have some reflections from Gitsplitta himself:
Gitsplitta wrote:OK, my 5 games....
Game 1 (Wyomingfox & I) vs. 2-time champs and the guy who'd just won the championship the day before. (double inquisition list, 4 LRs and 4 inquisitional henchmen units)
Major loss (4 pts?), but we really made them work for it. Very proud of this game. I made a mistake at the very end that probably would have allowed us to tie the secondary. By the end we'd killed half of their armies and damaged most of the rest. They'd done worse to us of course but we still had things on the table.
Game 2: (Yellowbeard and I) vs. Bolter Boys... or something like that, great guys. (fluffy SM lists)
Major victory (nearly 30 pts). Tessla shot heard round-the-world took out nearly 800 pts.
Game 3: (Solar_Lion and I) vs. GK/Inquisition w/ 2 Dread Knights
Minor victory: 19:14 in spite of some painful lessons learned. We did benefit from my previous experience vs. the Inquisitional army in game 1. I made the mistake of directing Solar_Lion's Doom Scythe at the riptides when it came in, should have had it go after the wave serpents instead.
Game 4: (Solar_Lion and I) vs. "I'm with the Drunk Guy" (TauDar, 3 riptides, farsight, jetseers, wave serpents)
Major loss: However.... if our dice had not been so bad at the very end would could have easily tied this game.
Game 5: (Wyomingfox and I vs. the French Canadians (Eldar/Dark Eldar, loads of nasty, jetseers, wave serpends, uber DE characters, 2 huge beast units)
Solid Win: (not sure of score... 17:1) This is the only game where my wraith-wing did *anything* of import. They charged and blew up the jetseers, put one of the beast units to flight and then helped pull Wyomingfox's guys out of the ringer because the other beast unit and uber-DE characters had gotten into his lines
Favorite games in order... 1, 2 & 4, all fantastically fun.
My reflections:
Wyomingfox wrote:Game 1 (Gitsplitta & I) vs. Nick from "They Shall Know Fear" and the guy who rolled Nick's Dice . I'm sorry I am horrible with names and that hilariously just stands out in my mind (double inquisition list, 4 LRs and 4 inquisitional henchmen units)
We went second
We got owned.
I was asleep most of the game due to my sinus infection and made some huge mistakes in the beginning, including underestimating their list. I really had no idea that those inquisition mobs would be that large and kick that much ass in CC. I should have had us deploy fGitsplittaher back (12" from table edge) as we had short board deployment. Instead we deployed on the line. In addition I had misplaced my HBC riptide (shorter range but best chance of popping a LR) with my IA Riptide. So my Buff Commander was with the IA at the front and the HBC was way in the back. Failed both Novas on turn 1 and again on turn 2. On turn 1, I Jumped my commander and IA Riptide as well as had Gits jump his wraith wing towards the LR, instead of retreating which would have been the more sensible thing to do. Thankfully they missed a 5" charge on my commanders unit. Last turn we had the chance to win the secondary. We made the mistake of deploying our necrons from the NS on turn 4 rather than waiting till the beginning of his next movement phase (bottom of turn 5). This allowed our opponents to drive up 6", deploy 6" and make a 7" charge, thus wiping our troop unit and scoring an objective. Otherwise they would not have been able to get to it. I made a mistake in which I could have stayed in CC with my Buff Commander and tied up their troop units for another turn...they would have gotten Slay the Warlord but they would not have been able to score the bottom corner objective. Instead I jumped.
It was awesome playing against Nick and his friend (sorry bad with names). I also got hugs whenever my dice bailed on me.
Game 2: (Solar_Lion and I) vs. Bolter Boys... Fluffy and Happy Guys with Imperial Fists SM and Sisters
We went second.
After downing 2 Red Bulls and a 5 hour energy drink I am awake and perky. We scored max I believe. No White Scar Bikes, No Thunder Fire Cannons, No Centurions, No Grav Guns. It was one of those games where you just feel a bit bad inside for bringing a very competitive list. They were Jolly the whole game. Probably my favorite guys to just be around period.
Game 3: (Yellowbeard and I) vs. GK/Inquisition w/ a Fortress of Redemption
We went Second.
We scored max I believe. Yellowbeard was the champ here. His WK popped the missile silo, blew up one section of their fortress, killed their warlord, wiped both troops off their objectives, and held the Inquisitor Death Star up in CC for 4+ assault phases. Some really bad judge rulings complicated the game but we were able to find another judge who actually knew the rules to straighten things out. Awesome opponents but I was in extreme physical pain during the game and was sweating like a stuck pig over a fire. At the end of the game I just wanted to crawl in a corner and die.
Game 4: (Yellowbeard and I) vs. "I'm with the Drunk Guy" (Orcs w/ 3 Battle Wagons, Massive Mega Nob Mob, 5 Necron Flyers)
We went second.
Lost the Secondary but Tied the Primary: Turn one we pop two of the Battle Wagons. At this point we should have had this game but we made a huge mistake deploying our wraith knights far ahead, allowing them both to get charged by orcs. One died and the other was tied up for the rest of the game. Because of this I had to waste all my firepower on his 2+ units rather than wasting their flyers. Good learning experience though. In the end we just parked one MC after another on the relic to deny them the ability to capture it. Again, good natured guys.
Game 5: (Gitsplitta and I) vs. French-Canadian of Destruction (2 DEldar Beast Stars w/ Baron, 2 Venoms, 2 WS, 1 Ravager, and 9 man Seer Council with Farseer)
We went second.
Major Victory: (17:1)
Gitsplitta was the asset here. Turn 1 they advanced and their shooting bounced off our armor. His wraiths jumped on the Warlocks turn 1 and ate them. Turn 2, they assaulted the Farseer and Baron led beast pack into my Broadsides but only killed a few drones. They assault the second beast pack into the wraiths but lost and ran away. We shoot the retreating beast pack off the board and the wraiths and both riptides jump into the melee to bail out the broadside team. The beast star bounces out of combat and in turn 3 assault the wraiths. Kroot trade shots with Kalibite warriors and in turn 5 win the battle of attrition. Riptides led by commander jump in to save the wraiths and the baron goes down in the challenge with the D-Lord. We stayed locked for rest of game, allowing the necron flyers to score objectives in bottom of turn 5. A sole surviving tombblade contested the center objective. Almost scored 25 points but their troop unit on the 10 point objective made an ungodly number of 4+ armor saves, so we just contested it rather than capturing it. We tied them in overall battle points and this was one of my favorite games.
We ended middle of the pack.
Automatically Appended Next Post: It was cool meeting Dozer Blades and RiTides in person. Hanging out with the other members of the Maelstrom each evening was an awesome treat (Ramos, Ice Angel, Whalemusic, and Moonpie).
I also got to meet one of two people who I would consider online mentors...that being JY2. The other would be Janthkin, but sadly I did not see him.
I also met Alex and Caleb Wissenback both of whom I have commissioned to do work for me in the past. In fact, Caleb was the one whom painted my Tau!
Finally, getting the chance to play Nick and team "They shall know fear" was just plain awesome.
