Wonderful sculpting, thanks for sharing your process with us! May I ask how you went about texturing? The face in particular is textured in a very subtle way and I'd love to know how you did that. And what the inspiration was actually! Since the 'why' is often more important than the 'how'.
Thanks again!

The texturing on the face was pretty straightforward, really. I just smoothed everything into the basic shape, then cut the scale pattern in with the point of my sculpting tool. By the time that was done, the putty was starting to cure, so I used the blunt end of the tool to carefully pull some lines and folds in, without distorting the scale marks too much.
As for inspiration, I'd only sculpted little dragons for 6mm ranges before, and wanted to try something bigger!
And thanks everyone for the positive comments! Much appreciated.

Thanks for the prompt response! You've done a really lovely job. Do you use references for any of it? The musculature for instance, did you use references from real animals?

For the musculature, I went with mostly therpod dinosaur, with a bit of pterosaur thrown in, mostly from books by Greg Paul. Similar stuff to this pic by Scott Hartman:

It's nice to know you use references, being able to conjure that musculature from thin air would be too much raw talent for any one man!
I hope we see more examples of your process on Dak.

I had the same reaction but then i noticed all the picked out muscles in the basic shape and i knew that this was the work of an experienced sculptor..
Thanks for sharing the video. As i first heard that that they use pressure i was scared how much damage the model would take. But it came out better then expected.
Looking at thje final result it looks really great but it must be heavy. I don't want that to drop on my feet (or drop at all). Sadly i'm in no need for a dragon otherwise i'd buy one.
