Such a piss poor material that it ruins all sorts of beuitiful sculpts and is the most disspointing thing that GW ever sold I think.

Hehehe, not that I was trying to degenerate this thread into finecast hate but in response tot he Op that is a type of model that I think is the worst thing from GW

A particular sculpt doesn't jump to mind, Most of the ones that seem a little less cool than the others are older, and were fine in their own era.... The old metal warhydra was pretty bad ; such a pain in the ass attaching all those top heavy heads securely.

There is a particular model from the SoB range that springs to mind, but I can't remember its name right now...

The centurions are not the best sculpts, but they are far from the worst, in my opinion.

The sister of battle dialogus looks pretty derpy.

I read that he was originally designed with a kind of cowled head (like one of the ring wraiths), but then the 'suits' got involved in the design process and deemed that he had to have a more recognisably skeletal head - well, they certainly got that!

Although it's funny that back when Nagash was released, my friends and I didn't really care that much about it (his rules were ridiculously powerful IIRC!)

Really most of the modern stuff is pretty amazing, the plastics in particular have come on in leaps and bounds since the old days - there was a chap posting some 2nd edition 40k marines in the painting section, and boy do those things look basic now. Although, I seem to remember that they were a disappointment even when they were released (I remember people complaining "they're just trying to get us to get the metal ones!", which of course were much better.. nothing changes.. ! )

I think the worst stuff these days is probably something like the Storm Raven, where the design of the miniature has come a distinct second place to sprue-number and size considerations. Hence, ending up with something that very few non-gaming people would buy just for the style of miniature, which I always think is a mark of failure.

Yeah - probably mentioned 'cause it's a pig to put together.
For me it's either Pumba the pig or the SM flying boxes.

Look for the Nagash model.
It is historically the worst GW model EVER.
There is nothing good about it.

They really should have worked Nagash into the Undead book. With the plastic they can do now the model could be incredible.
Great story to boot.

Here's the Nagash story for anyone who's interested.

It was my first big Multi-part mini I had ever attempted. and it certainly
went through many versions in sculpting. (In those days concept drawing
were very sketchy and I had very little input.) But only one version ever made it to the
moulds. However, there are two head versions the original head was based
on the design that i was given, a more Zombie looking type. And that was the one
that my design manager and I (at the time) prefered. But at that time all miniatures
had to be approved not only by the design studio, but also by the sales management.

This is where it came un-stuck! They did'nt like it, and prefered to have a Skull,...?
Much to my dislike. Now because of release dates and schedules I had one day to put it 'right'. So preffering the original I went ahead and made the alternative. Now, I never thought for one moment thought that they would approve the (laughing clown) skull and would revert back to the original.
The Joke back-fired. And to my horror it was approved and they released it!

Throughout my time at GW I know i made some sculpts that I was not that happy with.
But, Nagash has been the one model that Haunted me all through my time there.
(AND IT STILL DOES!)
And vowed that I would re-make before I left. However, that was never to be.

I am working on my own version but will prolly not see the light of day until next year. Stands approx 70mm tall and will be cast in around 20 parts.

Blood Bowl was my favorite game at GW. Shame they never wanted to push it further. I would have love to have seen a Necromunder version.

And the original head in question

Something that makes even the centurions and everything else that everyone will say, look like the van gough of sculpting:

these...these... are these even considered models? it just looks like a 4 year old just melded his first play-doh set with his Mr.potatohead...

when compared with everything else, these guys make everyone else suggestions look like the newest porche...

It's only the heads that let the Mutilators down (same goes for the Oblits), another thing that just needs a head swap to make it good, though personally I would make them stand upright as well. Makes them far more imposing.

Still look slightly comical to me unfortunately, and the heads don't 'go' at all with the rest of the mini. Looks like a loyalist terminator is trapped inside a giant piece of bubblegum, rolled around in some crackers, and is trying to escape. They don't look as bad the possessed (which look like they are dressed up for Halloween), but those still look like they should be sold in a clear plastic blister in Toys'r'us.

Oh, don't get me wrong; I'm far from a fan of them. It's just a few things can make them look far less hyperbolically bad as happygolucky suggests.

I see your hatred and view your choices, but my cold hard hate still sits firmly in the lap of the centurions. Seeing the front of white dwarf last month I nearly cried my beautiful marines what are they doing to you!!! It goes beyond aesthetics and eats at the heart of the warhammer universe.

Although I gotta admit that nagash is some shudder provoking terrible looking toe crud!

Yup those are pretty crappy, they look like the kind of thing my 4-year old nephew would draw if he was shown a picture of a space marine, given some crayons and then told to create 'the best thing ever'. Not so much the actual sculpt, but just the concept of them.

That an incredibly dull, straight-up photo of them is apparently cover-worthy for WD is also pretty sad in my book.

Actually, looking at the latest WD cover, and then typing the following into Google image search has just made me incredibly sad...

What is so inexcusable about the mutilators is that they had an old model - the obliterator - that was in finecast (used often as a stopgap) and needed an update. The new mutilator obviously had to look more or less the same: being it's cc variant, leaving them two choices:

1) create awesome new sculpts for both, in line with some of the other great releases that came out, preferably in a multi-part plastic kit.

2) create a finecast model that goes out its way to look as bad as the original mutilator,

D'oh!

There are a lot of contenders in my mind.

I guess my current least favorite ones are:

5.) Abbadon. It might not have been terrible back in the early 90s or whatever, but there is no reason for this model to still be for sale in 2013.

4.) The Forgefiend. I don't care that it's a worn out trope at this point - the fact it became oft repeated doesn't change the fact it looks like a Zoids toy.

3.) Dreadknight. Just looks stupid, doesn't fit in well. The baby carrying aspect really is awful.

2.) Mutilators, for all the reasons mentioned already. Although I didn't much like the obliterators much either.

1.) The Khornemower. So much fail. In my opinion this is the absolute worst model they have ever released.

What blows my mind is that the same release wave that saw all those awful CSM models also saw such beautiful models as the Warpsmith and the Dark Apostle. How does that happen?

Also, thanks to Solofalcon, I've discovered that WHFB guy who is charging into battle wielding a fish. That's pretty WTF but I actually rather like it.
