While the government is in shutdown, all US Military is allowed to shop at Sams Club without needing a membership.

I don't have any official links for this, but it's info our base PA office is spreading, and others as well.

Nice.

But, I didn't hear that the PX was shutdown... that's odd.

AAFES hasn't. DECA has. DECA controls the base Commissary. All base Commissary's shut down on the first, and will remain closed until the government reopens it's doors.

Given that non-military government workers didn't have access to the Commissary in the first place, I'm going to assume no.

We lost a venue of grocery shopping, so Walmart provided us with a new one in the interim.

They are separate though and Sam's Club doing something doesn't have much bearing on Wal-Mart. Sam's Club has long been known as the "better" brand/company of the two when it comes to treating people decent.

Grocery store provided on base for military personnel. Often times we're stationed places where getting to other grocery stores can be very difficult and costly.

Separate stores, but it's rare that you to see a Sam's Club not within spittin' distance of a Walmart because it is owned and operated by Walmart Stores Inc. Both of them are gakholes imo. Though this move to help the military is a decent move.

One would think by the same token getting to a Sam's Club would be difficult and costly.

It would be a pity if Walmart is not showing the same concern for non-military government employees.

As I mentioned earlier, said employees don't have access to the commissaries, so nothing has changed for them in these regards anyways.

I don't think they're missing out on much, as far as the AAFES commisary goes. When I was at Tinker AFB it was fairly overpriced on most things, but occasionally had good deals on some specific stuff. On the average, shopping for groceries at Walmart is likely to be consistently less expensive. YMMV of course.

.......

Ok, AAFES has nothing to do with the Commissary. I addressed that earlier.

Secondly, Commissaries are almost always cheaper then local area markets, because they are legally bound to sell at cost (plus small surcharge, to cover some expenses). They cannot turn profit on their items.

NO they are not separate. Sam's is a subsidiary of Walmart.
Walmoart doesn't have membership requirements to waive in the first place.

Manchu, you should know only the military can be fetishized. Plus, other government workers are EVIL!

Plus, the uniformed military is still getting pais unlike the park rangers, IRS, capital police, Dept. of Labor, etc., etc., etc.

Park Rangers? Weren't the National Parks opened back up? Or are they like those police officers from yesterday's car chase where they were on duty but not getting paid?

Yeah, that article said that the House wanted to pass a fe wmeasures to fund a couple part sof our government, but he Senate blocked them.

Therefore, National Parks are not open.

Edit: Which was probably the point of your last post. Sorry if I misunderstood.

The fact that they made the active decision to close open air parks and monuments is one of the more ridiculous, petty things I've ever seen. I still can't believe it happened.
