I see more penguin face than Skeksi, but that's just me.

One of these days I'm going to get some of that Quar stuff.

I like the Heavy Gears. Totally going to swipe that base technique for some desert type guys I want to paint. Guess I need to go to the hobby shop again on Saturday...

They're from a game called This Quar's War, which is put out by Zombiesmith. It's basically a WWI influenced game about alien anteater guys. Their world has been locked in nearly perpetual war for hundreds of years with tons of city states and small kingdoms fighting over territory. Eventually a warlord shows up who starts conquering nations and unifying them under his banner These are the Crusaders, whose conquest has somewhat come to a stalemate as they come into conflict with Coftyran, who wants to retain its monarchy. So, you've got two sides with three factions (I believe) each and there's some neutral partisan/militia types as well. On the Crusaders side, you have the Crusaders themselves, Toulmore, and Kryst. On Coftyran's side, you have Coftyran, Fidwog, and Gwynt. Coftyran and its allies have sort of a late 19th century look to their uniforms and gear while the Crusaders have a late WWI look to theirs. The game is available in three scales: 28mm, 15mm, and 6mm and all scales have infantry, cavalry, and vehicles. This Quar's War is a mass battle game, but there's also a skirmish sized version called A Song of Our Ancestors, which was made in collaboration with Ganesha Games. A Song of Our Ancestors is a modified version of their Flying Lead ruleset. As I understand it, a lot of people also use Quars in Bolt Action.

Yes. Yes you should.

Thanks. I try to keep my collection fairly varied, so there should be more unusual stuff in here as compared to what everyone else is posting in the P&M section. Glad you're liking what you're seeing.

Rhyfler #4 is now done. You may notice he's very similar to Rhyfler #1. However, #4 has a different jacket, which has long sleeves, he has different ammo packs, his gear on his back is different, and you'll notice his skin doesn't have any spots. I made sure to keep different details on all of them so that while they look similar all together, there's small things here and there that are different. I decided to keep his skin spot-free to match up with the LMG gunner, who also lacks spots. I also kept his skin a bit darker.

I started working on my CEF Alpha battlesuit squad, but I only completed one of them.

These guys are extremely thin and had all kinds of little casting issues. I think every head had a prominent mold line going through it that I couldn't get rid of. I like the figures though. One can't have too many suits of power armor. This'll be my third type in "15mm".

That mech hunter guy almost looks like he could actually fit in it, even!

Lastly, I decided to show some pity on some of my Rebel Minis zombies that were sitting around partially painted.

This fellow also arrived today. I'll work on him over the weekend.

Nice variations on the Quar. They are growing on me even though they're still a little wierd and creepy. Maybe it's because you cant see their faces there.

That model kit will be fun to put together

Man that's some gross looking uncanny valley type stuff going on there.

I'm not seeing the uncanny valley or the creepyness. Besides, both of you have much creepier stuff than a Quar without his helmet.

I think it's him strolling down the street in front of the window.

He makes me think of The Last Starfighter, which really creeped me out and weirded me out quite a bit when I was a kid.

No idea why your Quar brought memories of that up.

And I totally don't own anything as disturbing looking.

Um, Kingdom Death? I'm sure I could find a few others if I looked through your collection, like that Valiant Miniatures guy made out of worms with the eye stalk coming out of his forehead. And don't you own some Darklands Ysians? I'd say some of your Rackham dwarves are more disturbing than the hatless Quar.

I would've posted these last night after I finished them, but my computer decided to disable its own wi-fi and then not realize that it had not only done so, but not recognize that there's a problem. Ugh.

So, Rhyfler #5 is done. the final figure from the set will be finished by tonight.

I also did another of my CEF Alphas.

Yes! My Toumore Veteran Rhyfler Squad is complete!

Here's the final figure, the squad leader.

And the complete squad with LMG unit attachment.

I also got a couple packages in today. Got my Antarctica Air Fleet for Dystopian Wars (though for some reason it arrived before my Heavy Gear order, despite being placed after it) along with an HLJ box. My HLJ box had three items. The first was the accessory pack for Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans, which includes a few weapons, a shield, and a little 3-legged tank mech. The second was a pack of intake vents from Kotobukiya that I wanted to detail up a Clearhorizon gunship. Lastly, there was a Wave 1/20 Maschinen Krieger kit, the S.A.F.S. Mk.III, codename: Raptor.

I already built the Raptor.

Full articulation through polycaps, no glue needed. It does need paint though. Not sure how I'll paint it or when I'll get around to doing that. For now, it gets to stand around and look menacing.

Plugging away at my Heavy Gear minis. I finished my CEF Alpha squad in my free time today. They were actually fun to paint, but I'm glad I'm done with them now. They're damn tiny.

CEF Alpha w/ Grenade launcher and rocket pod

CEF Command Alpha w/ flamer and rocket pod. I have no clue if this is a legal or even decent loadout, but I thought it looked cool, so I don't care.

So, here's all of my CEF troops now.

I'm still expecting another Armiger and some floaty drones, so they're going to be getting some reinforcements sometime soon.

I also painted up one of my Southern Paratrooper Jaegers. I've had these guys a couple years now and have started them, then stripped them, then started again several times on these guys. I've never really been happy with what I've done on them and the repeated strippings haven't been the best, leaving odd chunks of paint here and there. So, this guy's a bit of a rescue project.

I'll get to his buddy fairly soon. For now, unless I get an urge to work on something else, my next project is to work on one of my HG Strider mechs.

Not much to show today. I've been doing cleanup on one of my Strider mecha. Dream Pod 9 didn't do the best casting job on it. I suppose the parts of it that you would normally see look fine, but parts of the underside on it, like on the legs and the feet were pretty badly cast. I did my best to clean them up. I know those parts won't normally be seen, but I'll know they're there. I would've started assembling it tonight, but I wasn't pleased with my cleaning job. Too much of the mold release residue was still one it, so I dunked it in the Simple Green to try and get the rest of it off. Assembly should commence Wednesday.

Meanwhile, I've been doing a lot of papercraft stuff. Mostly I've been building small, simply Heavy Gear papercraft buildings. I think I'm getting better at it. I've having a lot less paper exposed and I'm getting the proper shapes. I tried my hand at something a bit more complex tonight though. I printed out some Ebbles Miniatures Convoy Trucks in 15mm and figured I've got enough experience now that I could do a decent enough job on them. Well, I built one.

I'm happy enough with the job I did. It looks a hell of a lot better than that hover craft I attempted a couple years ago. But my God, building those tires was a pain in the ass! Out of the entire kit, those took the most work and slowed me down the most, and they're just six tiny little pieces!

Anyway, I think at this point, I've got enough buildings now that I can at least try out some small scale skirmish stuff. So, though I don't have enough zombies finished to play Red Ops 5 (still), I should have enough stuff to play Modern Havoc. Once I retrieve my copy of the rules from my parents' house, I'll have to give it a try.

No, it isn't that kind of Thunderhammer. This is the Northern fire support Strider Thunderhammer from Heavy Gear. I got it cleaned and assembled tonight.

As a side note, dunking resin in Simple Green works way better at removing mold release and other residue than just using soapy water.

I still disagree on the simple green stuff.

You have to let it soak for days. DAYS. I don't want to wait days if I have a new toy to paint! I want to paint it NOW.

It takes about a minute to do it in the sink.

Any progress on the android girl you got last week?

It doesn't take days. I put the Thunderhammer in before I left for work in the morning and took it out when I got home. That was it. Just a few hours.

I haven't started on the android girl yet. I spent most of last night painting a gunship. I was waiting until I got decals on it before I posted it, but I'll probably just put it up tonight.

I think Quar would be interesting to play in any game. They strike an odd balance between being cartoony and realistic.

Okay, tonight's update, I've got that gunship I was working on. Now, I should probably preface this before I post the pic. I found this kit a couple months back at Brookhurst Hobbies. I had no clue any of Clearhorizon's stuff had ever been sold by any brick and mortar retailers. They only had a few of the vehicles and none of the figures. The vehicles they had were some drop pods, the Sparrow Hawk, and the Raven (a larger VTOL). All of them had oddly mismatched colors of resin and there were some fairly noticeable miscast bits that I could see on a couple of them. I've heard Mr. Harold, the guy who runs Clearhorizon mention in the past that the Sparrow Hawk and the Raven were some of the first vehicles he did, and I believe they were done very early on, possibly even before he started making the Hell Diver figures. So, I'm betting that the kits Brookhurst has were likely some of the very first Clearhorizon made. With that in mind, the casting on this kit isn't very good. I'm absolutely sure it's one of his earliest. There's small errors and smudges all over it. The tail fins were a mess and, weirdest of all, the whole thing was sticky. I mean, really sticky. Even after repeated washings and cleanings, the thing was sticky. The small guns that go on the front of it were just a sicky blob. I tried to repair what I could, and I think it's pretty acceptable now.

Thankfully, now that I've painted it, the stickyness is gone. I've made a few small mods to the kit, too. For some reason, the engines had no intakes. This isn't an error, that's just the way it was sculpted. So, because it bugged me, I got some from Kotobukiya and added them. Funny enough, it looks like those exact same intake pieces were used for the exhaust vents when Mr. Harold sculpted it. I also changed the chin gun. As I mentioned, the guns it came with were a mess and completely unusable. So, I salved the ammo drums, which were actually no sticky at all and chopped up a spare minigun from one of my Heavy Gear Armigers. I actually much prefer this new weapon setup now. I have to say, despite the problems this kit had, Clearhorizon's current stuff is lightyears better. My Nemesis had absolutely no issues with it and fit together perfectly. So, I imagine that if I were to order one of these from Clearhorizon now (or his more recent up-gunned variant), I probably wouldn't have any of the issues that this kit had. I should also note, for a 15mm kit, this thing is actually a pretty decent size. It's almost as big as my Sabre gunship from Rebel Minis and it's bigger than my Nemesis. It's just about the perfect size to hold in your hand and make swooshing noises with.

I also finished painting up my second Paratrooper Jaeger tonight.

I think my Scopedog scheme is pretty obvious. I'll need to eventually get some of the standard Jaegers so I can make some Red Shoulders.

I can see what you mean about the dropship being somewhat dated,if not crude. That said, you turned it into a fine gaming piece. I particularly like how you painted the canopy. Will it eventually get some sort of flying stand?

For now, no, I won't be getting a flight stand for it. I may someday though. Clearhorizon actually partnered with Gamecraft to make buildings and stuff and they actually do make some flight stands for their VTOLs. If iget one, it'll probably be one of those.

Not a huge update, but I painted up one of my GOT Clan troops from Khurasan Miniatures.

And just for fun, I thought I'd take a little size comparison of some of the 15mm figures I've got.

All of them are claimed to be 15mm, yet there's a considerable size difference between them all. The Rangers Project guy is the smallest and skinniest of the bunch, almost looking like he's closer to 1/144 scale. Then you've got Rebel Minis and Khurasan, both about the same size and with similar proportions. Then there's that Rebel Minis zombie. Same company, same scale, yet he's huge in comparison to the others. It doesn't show so well in this pic, but his limbs are much chunkier and he seems to actually be a fair bit taller, especially compared to the Rangers Project guy.
