just pop in to discuss your thoughts on codex art.

the main thing that got me to start this was the fact that I feel the DA codex art was much better, and more resembling angels of death than the more semi laid back art in SM: codex, (especially the BT art >.&gt

As an IG player, I love/fear the image in C:CSM under the Heldrake entry. That's pretty much what they do to a Valkyrie anyway.

The picture in the new C:SM dex showing UM and IF fight chaos is really cool, IMHO.

I love the Blood Angels. The Blood Angels Codex cover (5th ed) however, I loathe.....

I like the new tau artwork. In particular the commander illustration looks awesome, considering forming a farsight army with those colors.

The current Daemon codex is definitely interesting. A Khorne Herald on the cover and John Blanche art for unit entries.

Say what you will about Blanche, his style definitely drives home the feel that Daemons are not part of our dimension.

Krieg! What a hole...

Always made me laughs, you got those fancy VTOL craft with missiles and whatnot, elite soldiers wearing advanced armor with gun that can punch through a marine, nightvision/rebreather mask and... that random guy waving a sword around and calling the charge.

The cover art on the 6th ed codices are BAD ASS. I wish I had the limited edition Salamanders one...

I must say that, almost without exception, I have been blown away by the quality of the full-colour 6th ed stuff, Codex and BRB (the books as a whole look beautiful, not just the artwork). The new style is really cool, far more representative of what 40k is at its heart than any other 'era' of 40k art, in my opinion.

My favourite pieces would probably be the 2-page IF/UM vs IW spread in the SM codex, the RG airforce painting in the same (full page, stormtalons/eagles/ravens galore, all surrounding a thunderhawk) and the Heldrake pic in the CSM codex.

Each new codex and rulebook comes with a new favorite of mine. Right now, the honor goes to the Sisters digital 'dex cover art.

Yes! Love that artwork. The Sisters in it look suitably badass, and the Holy Trinity is also represented, which is a nice touch. It also has them right in their element, a brutal fiery warzone.

Found a version without the text. by the way.

Speaking of, I just found a torrent of a few hundred MB of SoB art that I'm going to scroll through later tonight, see if there's anything new in there that I've not yet seen before.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I remember when this came out - Life After The Cover Save was referring to him as Earthworm Jim. Perfect.

The 6th edition space marine cover is awesome. Genuinely put me off getting a limitted edition:

Spoiler:

The plural of codex is codexes.
