Cue the incoming rage...

Personally, I think that it would be a pretty interesting development to see. I'd love to see more of these "good of humanity" over "good of the imperium" Space Marines.

Think of something clever to say.

Eh, sounds like gak to me. He gets exiled, then comes back and they build a new Chapter around him? Unless it's a Renegade Chapter, ain't no Ultramarines going to go for that.

Feth that. Excommunicatus Traitorus.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

That's really rather vague, ain't it?

Personally, I just think it sounds very cliché.
The whole bit about "going rogue, going wild" ... because everybody loves a rebel, right? No matter that he's from the Ultras.
I already found this approach boring in The Force Unleashed (hah, they even said "Titus Unleashed" in the interview), and I probably would've rolled my eyes at this in the SM sequels, too.

Still, would've liked to see how it would pan out in detail. Maybe the final version would have been somewhat more "down-to-earth" than how these first ideas make it sound like?

If it was Titus going rogue against corrupt Inquisitors, that would be a cool deal, but the pretty boy Ultramarines seems like a stretch. Leandros was a dick, but only because he was dogmatic, not because he was secretly corrupted.

i'm suddenly glad THQ fell apart.

that said, this plot likely woulda never happened as I imagine GW would have to approve any storyline for the sequals.

I iamgine, after the laughter stoped GW's response woulda been "nope"

Ultramarine going rogue, riiiiight. So that's a gak idea.

I'm more of a fan of him working with the Inquisition, Space Marine Blank anyone? How badass would THAT be?

I'd be fine with it if it was him slowly falling to chaos trying to fight what he sees as a stifled bureaucratic Imperium and gathering allies, each of which just a tad more warp-tainted than the last.

I assume your basing this idea on how well GW has maintained tight control over black library authors, and even some codex writers.... Oh wait.. They don't.

I seriously doubt anyone at GW bothers to do more than look at sales predictions when it comes to their various properties.

I wouldnt of minded it but it would have had to be handled very well to make it not totally unrealistic. If only they had picked a different chapter the idea of a marine going rouge wouldnt have been so contradictory.

I always thought Titus would be part of the Death Watch in the sequel but we shall never find out. And whats so hard to believe an Ultramarine going rouge I remember reading about an Ultramarine's captain that defected to the Red Corsairs and became a Khorne Champion. I liked Space Marine and I liked Titus as a character and I liked how he adapted to the situation instead of just blindly following the codex because aren't Marines suppose to Improvise adapt and overcome he was an old school Space Marine.

That would have been kind of fun, definitely a great game. They've already touched on exiled Ultramarines within the Uriel Ventris novels, so his exile could simply be a Death Oath. He goes, comes back, someone has already ascended to Captain of his Company, Sicarius possibly, within the Chapter and rather than push him into another role they offer him a chance to create a new chapter out of brothers who would wish to join him because they feel constrained by the Ultramarines. He still knows the Codex and follows it, but he bends it. In the end he gets a Chapter that is loyal, an awesome story about how his journey's resulted in the Chapter's Creation and the Ultramarines are able to clear out any individuals who don't take the Codex Astartes as law, but are still tested and faithful Space Marines. Win-Win.

Heck, I didn't even play the game but I can tell you that's a horrible way to take the game. Of course, we're all in touch with the lore of 40K so we show great bias but the storyline sounds awful. Going rogue then forming a chapter around him, did they even read ANYTHING about the way successor chapters are formed? Not sure the Adeptus Terra would be all cool with forming a chapter around an apparent 'traitor'.

No, based on what I've seen, the solid storyline to this is a fall on a planet like Armaggedon... not sure what planet that last bit was set on, but have the world fall to Chaos cults, the Vendetta is shot down and he has to survive and make it back to his comrades with the aid of the Black Templars. The world falls into treachery for the storyline, then you start them fighting against chaos cultists and rogue psykers.

Then, for the 3rd game, Daemons, you face Daemons manifesting and in the end, have a giant battle with a Greater Daemon.. and just as the GD is about to kill Titus, A force blade pierces the Daemon's body and it falls and you see a Grey Knight Terminator. Titus is in and out of conciousness for the last grand movie of the series, and he blinks and sees lights, Inquisitor speaks, "Do not worry Captain Titus, you have served the Emperor well, and will go on to do so.. just not with any memory of this noble victory." Boom! Mind whipe!

I prefer the ending where he whisks off Lt. Mira and raises a family on the agri world of Gunta IV.

In all seriousness, video games, especially most hack n slack video games, never have the best plot. But what we are seeing is only the first draft of the final product, maybe it would have been better in the final drafts. Although we will never find out.

The idea isn't out and out -terrible-, it's something that I think I could roll with. But as other posters have noted here, there really isn't anything special going on here, and the rising of a chapter around him is quite a stretch.

Is it an IMPOSSIBLE stretch? Not necessarily. But it would take some serious chops to make it work.

I am a bit sad that the game fell apart, as the gameplay was rock solid and they did the best job at capturing the whole idea of being a Space Marine. As for the story, eh, not the best but it doesn't have me rushing for my Outrage Hat.
