The Raptors, And the Raven Guard.
Reasonable Soldiers. That don't act like warrior monks. I love it.
Keeping on with their tactics since the heresy is also a highlight.
I also really like the way that the Luna Wolves fought. Fight or Die is a fantastic way to put it.

Iron Warriors, Carcharodons and my beloved first army, Flesh Eaters, not in the list.
Iron Warriors have a rational yet brutal approach to warfare. And they like trenches and bombardments. And they shoot you from afar if they are able to. I play them when I want to destroy something from afar.
But some days I want it close and personal. And I am sort of a foodie. Having a good meal and having a good fight are really good things. Why not combine both? Thus the Flesh Eaters.
The Carcharodons are the closest thing to the Flesh Eaters out there. Flesh Tearers have become too mainstream.

1. Ultramarines - because if you go by what they are supposed to stand for, they believe in using the right tool for the right job more than any other marine chapter. They aren't 'rrggghhh rush 'em' or 'always super sneaky commando', but will use both as the situation merits. I also like the fact they are the clean cut poster boys. Everyone else has to have the bad boy/emo attitude/dark secret, and that's boring and copy cat.
2. Raptors - while they tend to favor the commando raid, they are also a 'use the right tool for the right job' crew. I also like their approach to tactical flexibility
3. Raven Guard - similar to the Raptors and Ultramarines, but more 'SOG' focused.

I love the old school mentor legion. When you consider how potentially hazardous to your health operationally testing rediscovered human gear from the DAOT is you get a sense of how cool they are. Plus I like the idea of them just focusing on gathering technology and sharing it with Mars and the other chapters (unlike the Blood Angels). Only the emperor coming back will really save humanity, but the technology the mentors are discovering by raiding tombs and space hulks and dead planets is buying time, precious time.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

I was about to say that.
Also, they ship small squads of Marines to every battlefield they can to act as advisors and to gather tactical knowledge as well; let's face it the Guard got a million worlds to pool from, which means a million different approach to war, tactics, doctrine.
All piling that knowledge up in their mysterious fortress somewhere as equality mysterious..

Alpha Legion - The idea that this army engages enemy forces without them even knowing they are engaged and under critical threat (like subliminally cedeing treachery in future gene seeds) is the epitomy of War without Rules. I also like that they torment the Eccliesarchy, Ordo Maleous, and all those witch hunter groups exceptionally.
Iron Warriors - Brutal effeciency through tedious calculations and defensive strategy = Win.
Night Lords - Shock Troopers extraordinaire. It's not enough to Win if the enemy still has the Will to Fight.
Death Guard - This group I feel the most for. Particularly their loyalist incarnation, pre-Heresy. Huron Fal and Temeter's demise during the virus bombing was absolutely gut wrenching to read in Flight of the Eisenstien, and Garro was a true hero.
Thousand Sons - This is by far the Legion I want to like the most, however, I personally know that I am not Thousand Sons material. Even after becoming a Lord of Change for Tzeentch, in my spirit, I am not them. I am closer kin to the Alpha Legion. And so they are a favorite that I know I could never be. Sadness. @.@ Can't wait to read about Prospero though and what has become of Magnus.
In that order. +__+

Definately iron warriors..... They are so hardcore that they broke through the protective shield of fanboy love that Matt ward has erected around the ultramarines when honsou decimated 1/3 of their chapter and put one of their worlds to the sword.

In 40K it is the Dark Angels, because their companies are organized to specialize in all facets of war.
Pre-Heresy, the Thousand Sons. I mean, come on, they have guys predicting the future, telepaths reading the enemy's minds, more telepaths instantly transmitting all this info to the whole force, guys throwing up shields that can ward of Titan weapons, apothecaries that can mold flesh like clay, all while the front lines launch fireballs and lightning, boil blood and induce aneurysms. Their bolters got more use as backscratchers.

I thought about this one for a few days and eventually concluded I like the Minotaurs' style the best. The are methodical, brutal, and cold-blooded. At first, I thought "well, so are the Iron Hands." But as interesting as those guys are, they seem to do it out of a deep inferiority complex. By contrast, the Minos lack the melodrama. A lot of chapters (and all of the Legions) are/were driven by some kind of melodrama. But the Minos are just a relentless force seemingly without ego. They seem as fanatical in mode as any of the zealot Chapters but at the same time don't appear to have any deeper agenda than following orders. It kind of creeps me out, like the DKoK if they were superhumans.

1. Grey Knights - Deploying via deep strike/teleport, brainwipe or extrmination of allies afterwards... so much for secrecy.
2. Legion of the Damned - Come in to save other people's hind quarter, go again without accepting a "thank you" (or so I've heard).
3. Dark Angels - With Deathwing and Ravenwing they have some pretty interesting specialists.

I will say, as a person largely interest in medieval history I am also drawn to the Black Templars. The fact they've tried so obviously to copy the Templars/Hospitalers/Teutonic Knights/etc has some appeal in terms of pure ascetics.

I only voted once, but I voted Alpha Legion (shocker). All the tactical flexibility of smart loyalist chapters (Raptors) with none of the oversight from the Ordos. The fact that the High Lords of Terra have declared them wiped out numerous times and that they are getting their recruits from within Imperial space just proves how skilled they are at misdirection, sabotage, and espionage. For the Emperor!

Alpha Legion: No one knows jack-diddly about them. Even fewer know about Omegon.
Alpha Legion: Using the entire Dark Vengeance starter set. If it's got a geneseed and power armour, it's fair game.

World Eaters.
I've long since been of the impression that Angron is one of the smartest of the Primarchs. Faced with an equal number of other Primarchs, all of whom are so smart as to make regular men look like animals, and realizing the tactical complexity they are all capable of, Angron has developed a rather cunning strategy: pure aggression.
So long as the Pure Aggressor comes at you hard enough, fast enough, and with enough ferocity, then your only response will be to fight back with the same brutal intensity you're getting hit with. (If someone just lunges out of a crowd at you and starts whaling away at you, running and calling the cops go out the window. Your only response is to fight back or get killed.) Once you bring enough intensity that your opponent IS forced to fight back in the same fashion, then all of a sudden he's playing YOUR game, a game you've been playing a lot longer. It makes all of your enemy's tactical brilliance count for nothing.
The hitch is that you have to be strong enough, and fast enough. Conan the Barbarian and the Incredible Hulk operate along similar battle doctrines. It isn't foolproof, but the great part is that there's only one way it breaks down. If you lose, it's because you didn't hit them hard enough and fast enough. You gave them too much breathing room to enact their petty intellectual trickery. Next time, rage even harder.

Because these Legion all focus on demoralization of the enemy prior to the enemies death just in different ways.
