We focus a lot on the Emperor's thoughts and actions during the Great Crusade, but we never discuss what the Emperor was doing during the "Age of Terra" (other than banging out litters of sensei, anyway). I have discovered the first piece of evidence that points to his presence in China.

Behold!! The Emperor of Mankind's BMW!

Alexander the great, Julius Ceasar, Napoleon Bonaparte. All were great military leaders who in some way or other embodied the ideals of the emperor. All wanted to 'unite' (i use this in the most generalistic sense, you could replace it with the word conquer) parts of humanity.
Ceasar wanted to bring barbarian tribes under the fold of Roman civilization... and did. Although admittedly for political gain.
Napoleon at first championed the ideals of the revolution; fraternity, liberty and equality. He wanted other nations to hold the same ideals by overthrowing their hereditery monarchies. Although his treatment of other nationalities, the Spanish, Portuguese and Russians in particular, often put lie to his word as did his blatent nepotism.
Then we also have Lincoln. A man who centralised authority in the United States whilst also abolishing slavery.
The 30k imperium is a difficult one to pin down. Sometimes appearing communistic, other times fascist, rarely liberal.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
But I think parts of these men could be said to bear similarities with the emperors ideals. Especially Napoleon's drive of reducing the power of religion.

Does it say somewhere that the Emprah was pulling the strings of humanity from the shadows and only old night made him take a more open control? If so, my bet is he was these guy advisors at some point. But as you know power corrupts and sends you a bit nutty. Telling one of those guys something they didn't want to hear would probably get you dead, but no matter as he was a perpetual so a firing squad is no worries.

He’d been killing people for them ever since: good men. Sometimes, serving the Cabal seemed counter-intuitive. They were very obliging. They explained why a good man had to die, and why it was not a bad thing. The wetwork they had had him perform… damn. In Memphis, against the Good Man, and then more than a thousand years later in the City of Angels, against the Brother. Then in M19, against Holiard in the Glass Temple of Manunkind, and in M22 against Maser Hassan in the Spire Terrace before his Word of the Law speech.

And then Dume, though no one could persuasively argue against the fact that Dume really had to die, by any standards, even human ones.

Things had evolved, of course they had, because of the quality of the opponent. The constant cosmological chess game with the hyper-brilliant, but wayward, Emperor had placed things in flux. The Cabal could no longer quite contain or predict his actions. The mon-keigh was getting above himself.

The bold sentences might describe MLK Jr, and RFK, respectively, although since they are separated by a millenium only one of those can be correct. If the assassinations are part of the "cosmological chess game" against the Emperor, then maybe RFK is the Emperor's brother.

Well, if he is all these historical figures, his more discrete attempts all failed in the end.

Every moral code he promoted turned into a corrupt and dogmatic religion, and every enlightened empire he built fell apart to infighting as soon as he "died".

Every chaos player wants him to be dead when he isn't lol. Being half dead or having a few active cells to anchor his soul so he can work the beacon is not dead dead like chaos players want.
They're just worried that one day he 'might' come back and tear their faction a new one.

I thought you'd be more pissed off by Stalin, after all, it's Stalin that's responsible for the entire political and economical structures that eventually led to the fall of the Union.
Come to think of it, Lenin's political ideals are pretty much replaced by Stalinism after the purges

Lenin's political ideals were a bunch of bs fed to him by his German handlers. Bunch of lazy, pompous asses plotting in richly-appointed villas with impunity because the monarchy at the time was a bunch of pussies (the kind that makes dissidents kneel and better their ways, rather than put their heads on pikes *cough*). He did the same gak as Stalin, except he wasn't as good at it.

Anyway, this is really off-topic. Everyone talk about the ridiculous BMW!

Perhaps Nelson Mandela?

Or Steven Hawking or Richard Dawkins, he's trying to advance our scientific knowledge to help do away with dark age magic worship and beliefs.

One thing to note in the Imperium as it stands is not what the Emperor wanted. He never wanted to be worshipped and tried t do away with religion as a whole.

If the Emperor exists in some incarnation in modern times, it's no one you've ever heard of, or are ever likely to hear of, working in the background to ensure certain things happen in certain ways, setting up a course for humanity's development along the lines he's devised.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

How modern does the "modern days" need to be? I would say Gustavus Adolphus, the father of modern warfare (also known as The Golden King).

But I might be slightly biased.

true but apparently that was a differnt approuch from what he'd historicaly taken. apparently in history he'd founded numerous religous, as Bulwarks against chaos and pretty much face palmed from behind the scenes as these religions where corrupted from it's lofty ideals into bloody political beasts. GW's never said it outright, but it sounds like the Emperor was a number of historical great prophets over the ages. including, most likely, Jesus

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I don't think the Emperor can be related to any single man in human history. I think the Emperor is designed as the sum total of all those great men combined. Churchill, Caesar, Alexander the Great, Napoleon, MLK Jr, Mandela. All of them amalgamated into a single leader. These men have charisma and vision beyond normal men, and the Emperor beyond comprehension.
