So far there is no indication that the named prize ship will ever become available for purchase. The only named prize that may come out is DS9, but the rumor on that is not until early 2015.

Yeah, that's basically my gripe. I figure they won't release the prize ships ever because it would cause some people who won them to start complaining that their ships aren't special anymore.

But I figured that if the prize ships had an alternate paint scheme in the first place, then that way they can still show off their prize ships and everyone else could eventually get a crack at purchasing the same ship but with a regular paint scheme. Not going to happen now but ah well.

I wouldn't complain mif they sold the prize ships and I won all of the Dominion War prizes. The people that would be upset are the ones who payed out the for them on ebay. I think all the time i saw Sutherlands going for $90+ for a ship nobody uses. Personally I think its great looking, but I can count on 1 hand the number of times I have seen them used.

What I would like to see is, keep the prize system the same, but after the OP series they should sell all of the OP ships in a pack together. That way the winners get the privilege of using them duringnthey event and everyone else can still get them afterwards.

I'm also curious as to what they have in-store for Romulans. There doesn't really seem like a lot of stuff out there for them so are we just going to see different named D'deridex ships then? Wouldn't be so bad if their attack were higher.

Maybe the Narada? Not sure if they have the license for it though.

Well the Narada is still in-universe when you think about it...

Personally, I enjoyed the films but they are closer to sci-fi action films, ala Star Wars, than they are to Star Trek.

Technically, the Narada is Failbram's thing, and I think we can all agree, we don't want to see ANYTHING from failbram's universe. Here's the way I see it.

The Nerada is from an alternate future universe where Romulus was destroyed.

The Failbrams universe currently is a failed attempt at an alternate timeline using TOS characters. I believe this is one of those universes that ends up losing to the borg eventually. (Anyone remember the episode where an alternate enterprise was badly damaged and it was literally just worf and riker on the bridge?)

I can safely write the Nerada and Failbram's universe out of Prime History.

I can also classify Star Trek: online as taking place in this Alternate future where Romulus was destroyed by a supernova. (Seriously, the Romulans couldn't stop it? the same people who bartered with the BORG for the Omega Particle?! COME ON!!!!)

They are also the first people to invent warp drive, transporters, and cloaking. I think they can handle a supernova.

Fun stuff aside, I thought they were terrible movies. Abrams is from the Michael Bay school of film, sacrifice plot and story telling for bigger explosions and more CGI. I lost a lot of respect for Nimoy even getting involved.

So,

arena OP has a failry large OOPS in it I think...

after captain battle when you redeploy, it has to be 4" from other shi[s/tokens and board edges.

ergo, you can put 90%+ of ships facing a corner, and unless they have a hard 1, turn around 2 or 1, or a come about full, they will die.

Im pretty sure wiz kids meant this to be the 4 manuver template as that lets the maneuverable ships escape, but still kills the boats.

any of you guys have TO's try to fix this?

My one TO is thinking about it and the other two haven't msaid anything yet. I don't it was intended to be the 4 movement template. They have never used the movement templates before as guides. In fact I think its worse they you think. I believe it is supposed to be range 1 on the range finder, which is actually slightly smaller than 4". The rule book states that each segment of the range finder is 4", but in reality they are not. Whether its a design flaw or intentional the segments are off, but it seems like they designer intends 4" and range 1 to be used interchangeably.

I think the problem once again is the play testers are not anticipating the level of cheese that the Internet can come up with. They couldn't conceive that people would take more than one cloaked mine, so I am sure they never thought people would point the opponents ships off the board.

lol... putting them in the corner was literally the first thought that popped into my head after the captains battle...

looks like bajoran ships and the lighter classes might get used...

or everyone will just use the borg since they have the movement advantage despite losing the captain battle, if they kill your ships you still lose after all.

either way, I think ill go for as many high lvl captains as I can, focus on getting early resource tokens to buff the captains

I too worry about another borg fest. However I think the borg won't fair well here. The captains battle winner is going to get 15 points for each captain who lives that could add up to a lot. We played it twice last week for practice after the captains battle there isn't much time for the final battle. If the borg are placed in on corner with the planet to maneuver around and the winner is in the opposite diagonal corner the borg won't have enough time to catch up on points. Even if one ship is sacrificed to slow down the borg the other person is still going to win on points.

I thought the Suliban were one of the first races to use Cloaking Technology, but the Romulans were the first to Perfect it?

I was actually thinking of an episode of DS9 where O'Brien is complaining about the Romulans claim to have invented everything first. However I thought the Sulibon were secretly being supplied by Romulans from the future.

No, they were being helped by an Entity from the future, but they had the cloaks beforehand, all their ships could cloak.

So how are your TOs looking at the Arena? One of mine has said he will not alter the scenario, but anyone who puts ships in the corner will not be eligible to win the fellow ship prize. The other 2 events I go to are undecided.

I get that long time Trek fans don't like the new movies very much, but I don't think that should be grounds to exclude ships in the game. I'd like more ships for the Romulans, regardless of their source.

I wasn't interested in the Trek universe at all until the 2009 movie. I heard it was good and I watched it and enjoyed it. I liked it enough to try Attack Wing with my friends and now I'm halfway through TOS and enjoying it very much. The series is very different from the new movies, so I get why the long time fans dislike them. But they did give a boost to the franchise and did attract new fans (I'm one), so it's not all bad.

Also, if the Narada comes out and is really powerful... it would be funny to see the internal struggle a Trek fan would go through when trying to decide whether or not to include it in their fleet.

I don't think Wizkids has the license to the new movies though, so you guys might all be safe. For now..

***EDIT
Actually, Wizkids has a license with CBS Consumer Products. Their website has both the new movies under the Star Trek tab: http://www.cbsconsumerproducts.com/

So Narada might be a possibility afterall

Even if you didn't like the Alternate Universe the Narada is from the so-called "prime universe."

*OFFICIAL RULES CHANGE TO ARENA FROM CHRIS GUILD*

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1181706/arena-op-rule-change

basically after winner of captains battle resets the board the other player is allowed to turn his ships 90 OR 180. So no more worries about flying off the corner. Personally I think this is a good update and shows that it was never the intention for such shenanigans to occur. I say kudos to Chris Guild for a good call.

So now that we all don't have to go out and buy a fleet of Bajoran ships that will never be used again what are your thoughts?

So far same great stuff in those packs. Nice to see the Dominion getting a Gul Damar. With his ability he is going to be very popular. I can't wait to see what the Romulans and Klingons get, my two favorite factions.

I thought dominion already had Damar? If they did, it's nice they're starting to get repeat characters, like the federation, and Klingons. (EG Data being a captain and a crew, Sulu, O'Brian, Worf, Martok, etc)

I love that Dominion pretty much get a superior version of Engage. Oh, I'd end up hitting that ship of yours? Yeah, now I don't.

Na before the only had Gul Dukat, Ranor, Denar & Evek. Damar is new and hopefully there will be another in the Dominion Battle Cruiser.

really likeing some of the blind boosters, hopfully I will be able to get another store to let me run OP's and get more ships out into the community, some relly usefull stuff in these boosters, would suck to not pick up the ones you need for your faction.

so far the only "meh" one is the romulan one, but even it has some decent stuff in there (or maybe i just dont knwo romulan strats well enough)

No the Romulan one is indeed "meh".

The captain's ability only works on Tal. Direct Command is very poor for its action cost.

I think Advanced Cloaking will be pretty useful.

Not a fan of the ship or the captain though.

My ranking in order of "I want" is
1)Klingon
2)Romulan
3)Dominion
4)Federation
5)independent

I mostly play Klingons & Romulans so they are at the top. For me the Klingon ship is the most complete package. On the other side of the spectrum I feel the Romulan is the most in complete, but the ship and tech are fantastic. I even want the generic. We play pure TOS around here every now and then so throwing some cloaked mines or IG on a TOS bird of prey will be gold. The Dominion ship I only want for Damar. I like the idea of a new ship for the feds but a generic Defiant class can do everything the Sabre class can do, but with a rear arc. I want captain Maxwell, but only to put on one of my generic Nebulas. The Maquis raider isn't bad but given a choice I wouldn't take it over any of the others.

All that being said I want at least on ofe each, but I'm really want 3 each of the Romulan & Klingon.

Idk, Klingon movement on the Saber and the TOS BOP, that's pretty good.

Aren't the Defiant's sharp 3's a red maneuver?

Nope, the only red on the Defiant class dial is the come about 3.
