That's what I've been going for! Hopefully some day I can do a real WD-style battle report with my retro Ork-playing buddy. We've done a few batreps before, but I'm talking ones with batreps, illustrated maps, the whole spiel.

Maybe your next project should be an army where all the minis are older them you

Nice Tacs, good to see the army growing!

My Crimson Fists are like, half that. There's plenty of Rogue Trader goodness in there!

it's been a slow month (working on a new cartoon and getting my butt kicked at work) but I've been making some progress on a new Chaplain for these boys:

You have enough guys to field a demi-company? Or any of the other new formations?

Chaplain looks suitably old school.

Oh, I can definitely field a demi-company! I think I'd need to paint up an extra Rhino or two, which I've got lying around anyway. I've got four tactical squads, a dev, assault, and bike squad, so really all I'd need for a full company are 2 tac squads and a dev squad at this point.

Here's the third Chaplain I've done for these guys:

He's beautiful. I love the gold trim on the leg armor.

Thank you! I'm very happy with how the gold trim (and especially the highlights around it) came out.

The black is good too - Just the right amount of grey highlight.

You can never have to many chaplains.

Shadow Grey and Space Wolves Grey (or The Fang and Fenrisian Grey as they're known now) are the secret to painting enjoyable black highlights, I think.

This still leaves me room for a biker chappy if I ever feel so inclined, then I'll have all the chaplains!

IIRC you said you had the old biker chaplain upthread. Get him some paint and then have a chaplain’s day out. The full spectrum of rage and hatred!

I've got him lying around, I just don't much care for painting bikes. Someday!

I agree. Love bikes on the table, hate them on the paintbench. They need a new kit in a bad way.

Not like a new kit would be much use in this army

This is just a great blog. It's awesome seeing the old minis come to life!

Anyone know when the larger round bases were made?

The 40mm Round was introduced with the metal Ork Warboss(the one with Twin Shoota and Chain Axe/Choppa), I believe it was '98/'99. The first "modern" 60mm round that wasn't the Titan base came with the plastic Dreadnought, can't remember the year off hand.

Loving the Old Skool style, SRM. Hits me right in the nostalgias.

I think the plastic dreadnought came with the sculpted, cracked cement 60mm base in early 4ht edition, but IIRC the first 60mm base was actually very thin base for the plastic IG sentinel in mid 3rd edition.

Thank you! This army is still one of my favorite armies I've ever worked on, and there's still so much left to paint!

I think that very thin base was the same one used for titans in Epic. I've seen it used for trees before too.
