At my gaming store we were having a big conversation earlier about what GW should put in the new space wolves codex and we came up with a two headed metallic wolf that is a monstrous creature with strength 5 with rending, toughness 7, 4 wounds, 4+ armor save, 6+ invulnerable, 5+ feel no pain, 6 attacks base, 6 initiative, 5 weapon skill, leadership 10 with fearless, moves 12" with fleet, and wolf Calvary within 12"of this model has stubborn special rule. No shooting attacks. We were thinking about points being between 250 and 300 points.
Any and all opinions please. It wasn't something thought out it was all in the moment.

Give it the option to have wings too, maybe some twin linked wolf missiles or +50 attacks on the charge and instant death?
In all seriousness, I think you've overpriced it - The Avatar of Khaine comes in at 200pts (ish) and has better stats and abilities.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Thank you all for your comments and input.
@PredaKhaine that is true but you are limited to one per detachment and 1 less attack slightly less movement cause Khaine can battle focus and 1 less toughness. The wolf has a 5+ feel no pain which from my experience with and against feel no pain is awesome it's twice to save your guy from death or wounds. Because of rending his hammer of wrath attack on the charge can have ap2.
@everyone else in general, it fits with space wolf fluff since they revere wolves and there are talks of a two headed wolf and a wolf made of iron I believe.
Other space wolf characters are high points cost, they range from 200 up to 300.
Let's add shred to his rules and does not get slowed by terrain. He will definitely be 300 points then. I mean he is definitely a target priority like a Wraith knight and not as durable but with good feel no pain rolls even more durable. Run him with a wolf cavalry pack and they get stubborn within 12"is more of a deal then you think. Also by giving the wolf two heads allows him to split his attacks to two different squads.
Yeah he will kill almost anything he fights but with 4 wounds and an base 4+ save most shots at that strength to get a decent wound are AP 4. So yeah I think the points are about right with the new stuff I just added for a 300 point model
It will be interesting to play test

I think they were being more metaphorical when they talk of "Two-headed Wolf" which can be a double-edged Power Axe or Thunder Hammer, and "Iron Wolf" which could easily be a tank or other war machine. Either way, it's a ridiculous idea.

Well maybe the two headed one you have a point with, but the iron wolf was said to live in the mountains on Fenris.
Is it ridiculous because you don't want it to face your 2+ re-rollable cover save 3 wound a piece 15 model unit?

No, its ridiculous because the last thing the Space Wolves codex needs is another absurd wolf related item.
There isn't a piece of wargear in that book, or even pattern of weapon that doesn't have 'wolf' or some derivative in it. The exceptions are the 'frost' weapons.
Its just...silly.

Just for the record I don't play space wolves and even if this model existed I wouldn't play them but I think it would be interesting to play against.
It was also a way to give a space marine army access to a monstrous creature.
If GW makes it we will buy it!

No, because it's a moronic, unexessary concept with no purpose other than to add MCs to an army which doesn't need them, coupled with the fact that comments such as yours adds nothing to the discussion other than undermining your maturity.

Just because you don't like it or don't want to face it doesn't mean it's not cool. A lot of armies has stuff it doesn't need, if the wolf is made with balance it could definitely work.

Most of the people in this thread have stated that it's a bad idea, and would need a lot of work to be suitable to play with. The fact that it's received bad criticism isn't because we're scared of throwing our "2+ re-rollable cover save 3 wound 15 model unit" at it, it's because it's just not interesting. In the slightest. If you have to create a Monstrous Creature for SW, be a bit more creative than a giant wolf.

Do you not see what it says under my screen name? A flower picking Eldar youth, you understand what that can do to a person?
Much better and acceptable response thank you. Also only 4 out of the 7 people that replied expressed negative interest, 3 other people only mentioned about the point cost.
And it's not just a wolf it's a giant two headed metallic Wolf
EDIT: I am no longer the flower picking youth. I am a guarding guardian!

No idea what you're on about, and frankly I have little interest in what it says.
Yes, that's over half the replies expressing negative interest, with the rest still saying it needs work. And try to use your imagination a bit more; it might be a two-headed wolf but it's still a wolf. For example, I would make this thing out to be some sort of unique Warhound Titan, maybe not on the same scale so it can be used in regular 40K but at least it's more unique.

Well a wolf is unique since space wolves utilize wolves already it's a variant to what they represent. If you use something like a war hound titan than most other space marine chapters should have it as well, since space wolves epitomize close combat on a feral and infantry based level. Look at them they don't even have access to a flyer, they are less vehicle oriented then most other marine chapters maybe besides dreadnoughts.
You like your War hound titan idea because under your name you are Rampaging Reaver Titan Princeps

As a sometimes wolves player I think the Thunderwolves are as big and nasty of a beast that the Space Wolves should field.
Where the Space Wolves are strong is their abilities against Monstrous Creatures and the like. That is something I want to see more of in the next codex. The hero who looks up at he Riptide/Demon/Wraithknight/Tyranid towering over him, tightens his grip on his Thunderhammer and says "Lets do this."
Giving them their own monster dilutes from this and waters down their fluff somewhat. The closest thing to the big monster I could be cool with is some sort of monster slaying Centurion style Battlesuit, but even that just doesn't feel Space Wolf like for me.

I agree strongly with this. Shame it could not be expanded across other parts of the 40k section (aka the General discussion... that stuff gets more heated and gets more ignorant than the YMDC part)..
But back on topic, if there's gonna be a giant wolf for SW then mount a dreadknight inside a dreadknight as the rider
I think if the Iron Wolf should be anything it should be more machine-like, like a dreadknight sized MC but more like an oversized mechanical ware wolf with a Big hammer or a Big hammer with a shield imo, I think this would capture the feel more with SW than just an oversized two headed wolf imo
just my opinion, hope this helps

Heres something that Col made from dakka:
To be honest, i see nothing wrong with the idea of a large mechanical wolf.
Pups have large wolves anyway, so what would be wrong with a mechanical one?
I'd also drop the points a fair bit.
Most large monsters range between 150-250 at the most really.

Dude! That is really freaking awesome. Thanks to for your support. Yeah you are right about that to an extent about the point cost with full upgrades a Wraithknight is 320 points I mean the wolf has a lot of rules to him that take up those points. I would think his minimum would be at least 265. I really do appreciate it.

Also to add, if you like casual gaming more to competitive gaming, then I would strongly recommend FW as they don't do OP rules for models (apart fro the new Tau riptide suit they did, but those rules are experimental and are subject to change) and have a good selection of models to choose from as well as the Books have some of the best background and have special missions to fit really awesome scenarios for their campaign games

Hah, this is kind of funny, a few days ago I was joking about all the books getting an MC and SW getting the "King fenrisian wolf"
Pretty similar to what you are talking about, but a bit toned down on the individual stats and beffed up army wide special rules.

That's cool gwarsh, do you know some of the army wide rules you were thinking of? Me personally the only one that I saw fit was stubborn to wolf cavalry in 12", maybe it should be any model/unit within 12 gets stubborn? I personally wouldn't put fearless there. Maybe giving models/units within 12"of him get furious charge when charging? Only rules I can think of off the top of my head that fit.
Thanks for that info happygolucky, sounds good but doesn't the HH book cost like $120 also if it means spending on all new models forget it. I want to splurge all my money on the PS4 and its games

Im not sure how much they are, for american dollars but there around £60 for a book, and it doesn't mean that you would have to but a whole new army, just use whatever you have marine wise and just say they are part of the HH list of the chapter you want, all it means is that you can get extra special units in FW that were part of your legion during the heresy and you get (if your the one who plays SW) your Primarch Leman Russ, who is super awesome
