And the pallets are gone!

Hello to everyone, distribution of the sci-fi sets thunders on, those guys who have yet to receive theirs (I can see you are all chomping at the bit to get your terrain) it is coming, we promise you.
Pallets...
We can confirm that the last of the pallets left Wayland Games on Tuesday as planned… they will now be on a plane making their way over to you all. They should arrive on or near the 1st September as in our last update, then it's 3-5 days from then that the goodies should be arriving.
What happens now…
We have learned a lot about distribution over the last few weeks and although we set dates for things logistics can get in the way. A while back we said that the USA should be getting the goodies in early September, but when we started the distribution it looked to be delivering earlier, however it now seems that we should have been more conservative with our time lines. Lesson learned, we will not jump the gun again! (we just get really excited).
some of the terrain packed up… this will now be on a plane… right now.
So you should have your lovely space stations and sci-fi settings by the 8th September at the latest. If you don't receive your goods or a notification by the 8th September please contact us or Wayland Games direct.
We've had massively positive feedback from the UK & EU and there are lots of builds going up all over the web, so just a little longer and you too will be joining the fun.
Took this the other day. Thought I'd post it just for funsies.
The War Room.
Things get heated as Captain Brauer's command council debates the best course of action for an upcoming assault.
"A frontal assault along the freeway is the most direct and quickest way to take the bastion!" says Lord Commissar Gibbs.
"You can't just walk the whole company down the open freeway!" Cries Lt. Fossman. "It'd be suicide. Their big guns would annihilate us before we get anywhere near the objective." "That sounds like cowardice Lieutenant." "No, Commissar. Unlike you, I have no wish to die for no good reason."
... Meanwhile, in the background, The Master of Ordnance and the Officer of the Fleet discuss the merits of an orbital strike.
Very nice! There's certainly enough doodads to liven up the boards, that's a great looking war room.
I started putting a little nook together today as a background for model shots. It's night and day how much easier (and not-damaging) to assemble when the contact points are superglued. Had to lever wider a couple of walls but that was no biggie. Better too tight than too loose... -_-

I'm running really low on superglue at the moment and what I do have is in a squeezy tube.
Gonna have to grab a bottle of the brush on stuff next time I go out. Just wondering how much I'm going to need though. I do have a lot of gak to glue.
Know of a cheap option down here? I picked up 2x 5ml brush on glue pots "Selleys quick fix" but they were relatively dear at $5 a piece I think. We gon' need a *lot* of glue!

The only cheap cheap stuff is from the $2 shop. But that nasty gak is more water then adhesive.
We're probably going to be better off spending a little bit extra for a good quality glue. We didn't half arse it on our pledge. Why would we half arse it on the glue?
This stuff? Looks like a convenient top with no unscrewing.
This is what I have, roughly the same price per volume and brush on, fairly thick for normal superglue. No complaints but I'll grab a loctite one to compare.

Nope, and I got my shipping notice on the 13th. No tracking info provided. Clearly, it is taking the longest possible route to get to me in Texas.

Update #73 Sep 2 2014
Shipping delays...
19 comments Like 12 likes
Hi all sci-fi backers we have had an update on shipping from Wayland Games.
At 7.28 this morning we had an email form them explaining that the plane from the UK to the USA has not yet left the UK. Despite being assured that it should have already left the UK - "it should be in the air now" - it appears that there was a problem between Wayland Games and the shipping company receiving the pallets at the other side. The problem is a paperwork one and I'm waiting for a response from Wayland regarding this and how quickly it will be resolved. As soon as i get this i will update immediately as always.
The last line of an email from Wayland was this…
"You have every right to "nag" as you put it. I am indeed tearing me hair out and I'm trying to get it on the plane today. If there is anything I need from you I will let you know immediately."
That is a copy and paste, so Wayland are doing everything they can. Wayland have said that the actual issue is the invoice that goes with the pallets is not a single one and actually is comprised of some 500 parcels each with individual invoices…. yes this is what stopped it from getting in the air. Frustrating to say the least, but true enough /
Above all we pride ourselves on communication and have passed all news to you as soon as we have received it. I've read the KS updates from other projects, the problems that occur and the frustrations of backers so fully understand that this happens.
Our communication is what we have been told sets us apart from many projects and so we have always been honest and passed on what we have been told. This is great when we are in control and pulling the strings. Clearly an issue with this is that when we are let down by paperwork issues from third parties it means that we then have to explain why the last thing we told you did not happen.
Despite the above we will continue to let you know all information as we receive it and if I have an answer later today I will write another update, even if the updates become our tracking. I will write a daily 'backer only' update to track this if needed.
So…
Sorry for the delays we are truly doing everything we can to shove these pallets onto the plane and in the air. Again this is what we have been told less than 3 hours ago as I write this so are letting you know straight away.
We are looking at providing an upgraded shipping option in out Pledge Manager (Backerkit) for our current and subsequent KS projects. Also in future Wayland will not send email confirmation for parcels that have not left as this also caused unnecessary confusion to backers and ourselves.
On this, our first project, we have learnt a great deal about the fulfilment and so two guys will be prepared next time.
Over & out (but only until we get another update from Wayland)
Colin & Wayne
So, it looks like all the US orders (even including the ones that had a shipping notice go out) actually didn't go out due to a paperwork snafu with the invoices.

Awesome, thanks for letting us know they were all done. I'm surprised there's no greys, do we just leave the majority of the white/grey wall sections as-is?
Also, commiserations to those in the US. /hug

I'm sending a minion out to check some local art stores and what not, but I'll probably buy from ebay. There's a set of any 12 colours for $41 +$13 shipping working out to a bit under $5 a piece or any 1 colour for $3.60 +$5 shipping which they'll combine to an extent for multiple purchases.
If you find any Aussie or online shops selling them I'd love to hear about them!
note: Aussie ebay and prices from a UK store.

Thanks guys for that. when I asked Colin about the greys a week or so ago, this is what he said:
When you glue-edge the Clone Chamber and Wall Console the glue actually deepens the colour of the edge of the card and looks great on both so no need to pen those.
I've just bought a set of the colours from an eBay store that amusingly just happens to be the same place that Yonan just linked. I emailed them about postage costs/combined postage and they replied that they would send any number for 5 pounds. So if you end up buying any, let them know they told that to a friend of yours and see if they will do it for you as well.
Automatically Appended Next Post: update - they have black in stock as well. Just eBay message them and they can add it to your order. If you order from them.

SavageRobby wrote:Well, that is pretty frustrating. Trust Wayland to screw it up.
Is it really Waylands fault though? Seems more like it's the airport getting their knickers in a twist because of the invoice/s.
Wayland is responsible for the paperwork, aren't they? And they told BS it was in the air on the 28th, only to turn around and tell them it wasn't on the 2nd. That's pretty poor communication and business practice, anyway you slice it. Of course, based on their history, it doesn't seem terribly surprising, just disappointing. And this after getting a shipping notification early last month (from Wayland), only to discover that didn't mean it had actually shipped, just been packed.
Seriously, is it so damn hard to just tell people the truth?

Judging by your comments, I have assume you have zero experience in shipping anything abroad as you don't seem to know anything about the actual processes involved.
Most likely what happened is that the packages were collected from Wayland on time for the (probably evening) flight on 28th. Now, at this point any reasonable human being would assume that if every single package has been fixed with the proper documentation (including invoices in triplicate) according to their best knowledge, packages would be leaving on that plane.
Enter the problem: Shipping company does NOT want to manually take process the ~500 packages, which would require opening little plastic sleeve in each cardboard box, taking the invoice and entering it to their system. Instead, they want Wayland to collect that info and give it to them. This might have been on the shipping company's contract, or might not. In any case, it is lot faster for Wayland to give the information than to start fighting about who is to blame.
Waylands mistake was they used same process for sending packages as they use for normal abroad shipments, instead of double checking the process with the shipping company. This is something they should have been more diligent about, and I sincerely hope they will be in future.
While you're making huge fuss about the "28th to 2nd" thing, 28th evening to 2nd morning is grand total of two working days. For a communication process which has 3 separate players: Shipping company, Wayland and Battle Systems, it isn't that slow, though one day turnaround would have been better. But not knowing how long it took shipping company to contact Wayland, it is unfair shoulder all blame to them as you have done.
SavageRobby wrote: Seriously, is it so damn hard to just tell people the truth?
You seem to have some sort of personal crusade against Wayland going on.
Let me give you an example situation:Let's say some guy is sending you package, and courier company collects it at Wednesday and it is scheduled for Thursday delivery. Guy calls you, tells you that the package is in the van and will be delivered Thursday. Unfortunately the guy sending you the package made a mistake in the address, package takes one day detour and is delivered instead on Friday: Did the person in your opinion (deliberately) lie to you? Or did he make a statement he thought was the truth?
Disclaimer: I'm in no way affliated with Wayland, and I have made total of 4 purchases there. I just wanted to provide a little bit more balanced viewpoint on this issue.

We'll just have to agree to disagree, although this point:

Mostly invalidates your others. Wayland was hired as the "expert" in this. They should have double checked. And given that it was a new process, they should have been in constant communication with the shipper to make sure there was no issues. They did neither, apparently.
And FWIW, 2 days and have passed, and no word that things have been sorted out. Some experts.

Project Update #74: Very short update to say we are pushing the shipping...
Posted by Battle Systems Ltd ♥ Like
I said I would keep you all up to date with info as I get it even if it's nothing solid.
As we said it was all to do with paperwork as the parcels are waiting a ready to go. I have been chasing Wayland Games and in turn they have been chasing the shipping. Here is a cut and paste of the last email I got today at 14:38.
'The paperwork is in with the airline. I'm just awaiting confirmation that it's A-OK and what flight it is booked on. There is a chance that it will go today, but only a small one.'
I have had a few emails back a forth with Wayland chasing yesterday and this is the first one that shows progress. Seems like it is nearly there... so very small chance it will go on the plane today, but it's being chased a few times a day.
Still doing all we can and keeping you up to date, I'll try to be the tracker for you guys until it lands in the USA, then it is down to your local post.
Over & out for now

But nothing today, and COB is past in the UK. So probably nothing until Monday. If we're lucky, they're on a plane and there was just (another) communication breakdown. But given the shipping "expert" involved, I doubt it. Very disappointing.

Project Update #75: Little bit of extra News...
Posted by Battle Systems Ltd ♥ Like
It's not fully confirmed, but we did have contact from Wayland Games today. This was the email.
"Hi Guys,
Awesome News! They will be on the plane tonight. I'm just awaiting confirmation of the expecting timings from there and as soon as I have a schedule I'll send it over…"
I have not had the schedule back from them yet, but it looks like it might have gone on the plane tonight. Now I promised to keep you up to date and so thats why I'm writing this. It's still possible the plane did not go and I have not had confirmation that it's gone, but that might be because of a late flight.
I also asked what the process will be when it arrives and the timings in the USA. Originally it was 3-5 days to reach you guys from when it lands, but like I say I'm waiting for this confirmation.
I may not get further news now until Monday, but if I do i will update here. I waited up until late just in case, but now at 12pm (uk time) I'm updating what we know.
So you all know exactly what we know and I suspect we all have our fingers crossed )
Cheers All
Colin & Wayne

Still checking locally before I resort to online. Given the bulk doesn't need it according to that email of yours, which I basically agree with after seeing some superglued, at least we can get to work in the meantime.

This stuff will go together and come apart really easy, probably wouldn't be hard to build a layout and then go back and take it apart in segments to do the penning and gluing. So whenever my stuff comes in, I won't be waiting.

I tried assembling without gluing - bad idea, it damages pretty easily, it's so much better glued. I'd say at the very least quickly glue the contact points on the stuff you want to build, that will reduce 95% of the damage, but even then I found it would sometimes buckle just beyond the glue on particularly tight connections.
