Subject: Scratch build Meganobz or wait for the release?

I've been scratch building Ork models that don't have an official model (Biker Boss) or an updated model (Buggies) for a while now. I've really been wanting to run some MegaNobz, and I really love the look of them, but I hate metal, and it's incredibly expensive.
So, should I scratch build six now, or wait till they release next year and buy?
Anyone with experience scratch building them have an opinion?

There's been some good conversions made from Centurions if you just want to orkify something. If you're looking to have them now, I think you should go for it!

It's also pretty easy to use the big harnesses from lootas as a good base for mega armor. Plus, the lootas don't go t waste because you can build them as burnas too.

Build em mate!
The best ones I have ever seen were done by Lucius, heres a link to his thread in event you haven't already seen it. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/469636.page
I have built one to completion myself, and it was WELL WORTH IT. I always pull him last, and make him the lone survivor after all my stock manz die.
I have 4-5 started that aren't anywhere near complete, and one about halfway done based on a metal kaptain badrukk.
It helps if you can get one done, and figure it out sorta.. then do the other 5 all at same time, and do each step at same time.. If you can follow instructions well you should be able to do em all in 1 go, but I was too much of a skurrdy cat to try that myself thus only finished 1. (pics in my gallery if interested)
Not to down myself but, lucius does a far better job than I did, and he has a tutorial in that link.
6 AOBR nobs and $5 for a pack of bases, all ya need aside from that is some styrene pipe/rod/sheet, maybe some guitar string cables.. hell of a lot cheaper than stock manz! Not to mention far more impressive looking IMO, and way unique.. Last I checked those AOBR nobs are only about $1 each?
Hope this helps!

Personally I'd wait (use proxy models in the meantime), mostly because the box will probably contain 3 (just maybe 5?) different meganobz and we have no idea what they'll look like - _possibly_ very different to the current models. On past experience (e.g. the Dredd and Kanz models), the best solution for me will be to then buy multiple boxes and convert/modify them to all look individual.
If on the other hand you're perfectly happy to have meganobz units that look wildly different to each other and the official models, then get converting right now.

Thanks guys, I think I'll plan on putting them in the queue just after my big gunz project. I've been out of the game for about 10 months now, just taking a break from the scene as I was getting a little burnt.
To address the official release issues, I think I'll be magnetizing the loadouts.

Half the fun of orks is that you can just make ANYTHING you want with a little ingenuity, glue and plastic card. make em.

Well i think the more important question is do you want to scratch build them? If you have fun scratchbuilding there is nothing stopping you. And as others have said already the nature of orks allow a wide array of conversions. That your models doesn't look like GW ones is no reason to stop as long as everyone you play with know what model is what.

Waiting on the plastic model of meganobz might be this month might be next summer..or later ..they keep shoving them back
I found AOBR Warbosses to be a good base that just needs some plasticard and filing to make good looking ones..of an appropriate size ..(about the size of Ghazzy's current model which is still to small..no where close to fluff size)..
But yes Defianlty Magnetize the weapons so if different and/or better options come about ..you can update easy

If you have a lot of scratch-built models in your army already, then it would be a good idea to stick with the theme by building or kit-bashing the Meganobz.
