The pope on the picture is Bonifacius VIII, in the Ex illis storyline, he was murdered by the Black Dwarves to end the inquisition and came back later as a undead (undeads in Ex illis has their full state of mind and aren't clumsy or anything, they just retain the marks of their death).
This wasn't meant to be offensive in any way and I am deeply sorry if it was to any of you guys, but it is representative of the serious tone of the Ex illis lore.
Religion was very strong in this era, which is also represented well by priests having magical powers (the Mendicums) and fighting angels (the Evocati).
On another subject though,
We recently had some pretty interesting updates on our Kickstarter page :
For any pledge of Knight level and up, you now get a free Archduke, a new miniature introduced in this Kickstarter Campaign
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/672225583/ex-illis/posts/662812
Also, for the next 5 days, if you have pledged for Knight level and up, you can declare a mentor in the Kickstarter comments or by private message and both you and your declared mentor will be added a free box set of Demon Hordes to your stock!!!

Hope you like this

Nothing has changed with this company and I hope this kickstarter meets the same much deserved end as the original game. Thread unsubscribed.

Well, that's good enough for me. Thanks for the explanation of the avatar.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Wow, that was harsh, warboss.
Curious, would it matter if the figure
-was (in reality) killed by enemies of the church (which, after a quick search, seems contested but likely)?
-was from a made up religion that was clearly derived from but not actually based on catholocism?
-was the cause for some major conflict in his name or otherwise was important to the world's history?
-handled his undeath well?
(or, would there be no way of saving that idea in your eyes, or would there be a way that I hadn't thought of?)
I'm just curious because it would take some pretty offensive historical re-writing for me to get upset about a historical figure relevant to me getting re-written. Like, maybe if they were rewritten as having wussed out and betrayed their cause under threat, and happily served their new masters, or something, but everyone dies and in a game of conflict they're likely killed.

Anyway.. back to topic about the game rather than being offended by a picture of a person you may or may not care about. I really like the grid system as that is what deadzone is using as well and anything that gets away from the nitpicking of tape measurers is appreciated.

Yeah,
I honestly don't understand the upset?
It's fictional.
Like weird war II
IMO There is no real reason to get upset!
But if you are upset... Meh.
Can't handle everything/one with kids gloves.
Grid system sounds cool.
I think I'm at full stretch approaching Xmas.
I'm yet to pledge for AVP... If I do I'll want the battle something terrain to match!
However I like helping out via kickstarter and I've always wanted one of the massive monster Emisarrius model.
If there is a pledge level to get models only at a discount (to the uk) I'll be interested.
Panic...

I don't mean to be pessimistic but as we approach the half-way point, I have to wonder if this project will get funded.

One of the problems for me is that those look like the models that I remember from the previous, digital-only, incarnation of the game. And it's not really clear what the Kickstarter funds are going to. Is it book production? Building new molds for the models? Buying back the old molds? New content development?
The other problem is that I'm not at all interested in fantasy human models, and there don't seem to be any daemon/angel only pledge options.

Even the offer of free figures hasn't exactly lit a fire under this project's rump. I'm wondering how many of these "mentors" are just people who've already pledge gaming the system?

Unfortunately I think this game is suffering from the bad reputation of its previous incarnation. That and the fact that most things they have shown in the kickstarter existed in the previous game.
I'm also struggling to drum up interest with my gaming group, which sucks becuase I think this setting could lead to a really great game.
