For those who might be interested, JudgeDoug has been helping me out with KoW Army listing over the past couple of months, to help me get my figures into shape. I started posting a Dakka P&M Blog with ...sporadic updates, but since that part of the board is mostly filled with 40k models, I thought I might just post some pics of the finished-only models (no WIP stuff) in here. I still need to glue tufts and use some weathering powder around their feet. to tie them to their bases.

Ogre Shooters - Crossbows.

Ogre Shooters - Blunderbusses.

There's a bit more in the thread linked from my sig, and more stuff again on my blog - also linked from my sig. I'll post others as they get finished, which won't be too often. Though I'm hoping to finish up another unit that's just getting upgraded from random painted WFB figs to KoW unit later today.

They look great. What color did you use for the armor?

I think the big guns are my favorite part.

Thanks guys! The armour was pretty simple. Vallejo Model Colour Oily Steel (865) washed with Army Painter Dark Tone Quickshade (which I'm told is the same as Badab Black), then a very light highlight again with Oily Steel and some spot highlights with Vallejo Model Air Steel (065).

Possibly a unit leader for 600/1200pts, but also possibly my Warlord (on chariot) for 2000pts...

Beautiful work. In addition to the cracking paint work, really iImpressed with your mold-line-removal abilities.

Thanks. The mould-line removal is the only reason I haven't started on the second six shooters. Almost done, but you've got to be in the right mood for it. Some still get through, and to be fair to the Ogres, these are far from the worst models for lines in Mantic's ranges.

Anyway, here's another of my old Favorites on his 2013 base!

Agreed, they're not as bad as many restic items. But hoo-boy, do they still have some mold line issues (jaw-lines, I'm looking at you).

Beautifully work on everything you've posted.
Love to see the final army.

Yeah, those were not fun. I actually missed the lines along one of their beards, but since you can only see it from an odd below-the-jaw angle on him, I'm calling it square.

Another old classic figure.

There's more pics of each of these guys on the P&M Blog for anyone interested, and more again on the wordpress one. I'm keeping this thread in the short and sweet mode, a decent number of pics in the P&M while the wordless blog is much more all-out.

Very nice Ogres Aza, you've done a good job on 'em imo. Also really partial to the minis themselves, one of Mantics better KoW styles I reckon.

Thanks Yonan. I look forward to finishing the second 6 of the Mantic ones, and then perhaps doing some of them in Melee style, which should be a lot more enjoyable to paint...

Another Olley Ogre!

How did you paint the dark skin?

Uh.... it was painted about 20 years ago, so I'm going to guess it was GW Dark Flesh (discontinued) which is close to Scorched Brown/VGC Charred Brown - which was then blended up into GW Swamp Brown (discontinued) but close to Vermin Brown/VGC Parasite Brown.

Doug - I need an OPFOR for that! Or some regiment bases. Stupid Kickstarters stealing all my moneys. I should dig out our LotR figures as well and work on those. Some armies of Men!

Quality work Az. The new Mantic ones you've done look great!

I really like the aesthetic of these models. Are they a PITA to clean up, what with being restic and all?!

The clean-up isn't so bad, actually. The annoying part of them is painting them. Too many straps and buckles and so forth, as well as them being in annoyingly hard to reach places under the arms, etc.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll shelve the idea until I clear some backlog or sell some stuff.

It really depends on how you're arming them and how many you plan to paint. With hand weapon & shield, and if you're only doing a few of them I can see them being far less painful.

You can speed paint the Mantic Ogres very well, in my experience, which I think is the opposite of Azezlex. The key for me was to spend the time cleaning mold lines, but after that, assembly and painting was a breeze. Admittedly, I've only done hand weapon/Shield regiments:

Spoiler:

I got about 1000 points of Ogres (18 lads and 30 scouts) done from scratch since new years:

Spoiler:

Azazelx: I'm really impressed with how good the skin tones and armor on your boys look. It's a very crisp scheme, and makes them look very warm!

Thanks for the compliment. I appreciate it.

Speedpainting them is a good point that I hadn't considered. I can't personally bring myself to paint ogres to any less effort/standard than I've done these guys. Which isn't to say that your force doesn't look great - it's just my own thing. I painted (most of) two units of Gondor Rangers mostly using base coat + wash and I still feel (irrationally) guilty about it. It's just my OCD, I think. It's the same reason I'm taking forever to carefully highlight the stupid black skirts on reams of plastic WoMT that no-one will ever see in enough detail to care about.
