How will NOVA be ruling on the new Wolves Unleashed detachment? Already people are sussing out combos like 3xDevCents with 3 droppods if the SW detachment are handled like an allied detachment/formation

I understand that the 1 month relaxation period was waved for the "Wolves" codex.........................I would assume under the pretenses that it breaks the pre-existing understanding that a waiting period was in order...for the reason..........................................................
And....I would wonder what else will be available?...currently 8-11-14...just ya know...for preparation purposes................
>>>>Understand that I harbor no ill will..I have been jonesing for the NOVA since 2013...and bringing more peeps this year!!...along with some excellent weather salsa!!...However it might seem as if formations and such just released upon the scene will be available also...Is there currently a formation/dataslate/etc.......list available that is up to date...as of today....THANKS!!!...I love all you peeps that put on the NOVA!!!...seriously....my gaming year revolves around it.......SO....THANKS.....

Nothing else will be made available. This was a quick exception call made by a conglomeration of TO's/organizer staff surveyed. Not entirely sure it was a perfect call, but in dealing with a new edition, the net understanding was the wide # of wolf players who wanted access instead of waiting a full year (a lot of people attend NOVA as "their GT for the year," beyond the smaller cadre of multi-tourney attendees who are a little more vocal at times) plus the fact that so much was brand new and wild west regardless for 7th edition made this choice acceptable.

So, let me get this right. The price for the fantasy GT is $95, and there is NOONE reading the lists and checking the to make sure they are legal until 1 HOUR BEFORE the tournament starts?!?
Nice...

Well, the price for the Fantasy GT ticket is $45. Like most cons, there's also a weekend badge cost. If all you're doing with the convention is the Fantasy GT, then yes it's effectively $95.
There's been a lot done for Fantasy this year, from little tiny superficial things like the cover art of the guidebook being given a bunch of attention by our stfaf artist http://www.novaopen.com/wp-content/uploads/Fantasy-2.jpg ... to building tons of new terrain at a very high level for it ... to bringing in a new TO for fresh blood and a focus on correcting some of last year's issues.
Steve's been asked by attendees when list submission is, and prefers to do it one hour in advance. We tend to encourage Leads who are experts in their games and have run events w/in them before to stick with what they are doing, but we can pass along the question again. It didn't strike me personally as particularly strange, since major 40K events do not *typically* require list pre-submission. That I do not have personal experience with Fantasy is why I try not to tell my Fantasy leads what to do, but maybe you can help with understanding what most Fantasy events do, when they do submission, etc.
If you're at all interested in attending, Grix (or have you registered already?), we're nearly sold out again (having sold out the original limit some time ago). I know you've shared a lot of concerns based upon last year's Fantasy event throughout this thread, and I hope to continue to do the best I can to address each and every one of them when you make the comments.

In 99.9% of the tournaments I attend, there is a general assumption that players aren't cheating. Most people use army creation software that self audits lists, which make it easier for the TO and the player to spot irregularities.
I understand your concern, though. Is there a specific issue you've encountered that makes Fantasy particularly vulnerable to list irregularities?

Malifaux updates and FAT MAT update.
http://whiskey40k.blogspot.com/2014/08/gaming-mats-on-cheap-if-you-preorder.html
Reminder - if you want to get one of Frontline Gaming's radical gaming mats but don't want to pay $20 shipping, you can get it at NOVA, but you MUST PRE-ORDER IT THROUGH THE NOVA SITE BY AUGUST 17, WHICH IS IN JUST 4 DAYS.
We've sold a fair # of them, but we'd love for more gamers to benefit from the deal we've swung.
Please do not show up to NOVA and think you can buy a mat there - you cannot!

I'm considering going to play in either the 40k GT or the fantasy GT. I'm not a tournament player, so I'm basically be going to have some fun and get 6 games in.
So which one would be more fun for me? Basically is one of the crowds any more laid back than the other?

The most laid back experience would be the Warlords Narrative event. 32 player cap, 16 per faction, much more flexible list design, pairing oriented around what kind of list you brought often, creative scenarios, etc. This is 7 games across Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon. You can also do the Nightfghter track ALONG with the 40k or FAntasy GT's and get in 4 games within this environ, with no cap.
The next most laid back experience is probably the 40K GT, for a couple of reasons. You can't guarantee yourself easy going games in the first few rounds, and some people will beat you up pretty bad list-wise, but we pair based upon your win loss record, and based upon WHEN you won and lost, so you tend to play people who are both similar in skill and similar in how they're "feeling." I.E., if you just lost and are 2-1, you'll play someone else who just lost and is 2-1, not someone who lost their first game and is on a 2-game win streak. There's more about this to be discussed roundabout, but the long and short is the 40K GT surveys folks afterward every year asking what their experience of the sportsmanship at the tables was compared to other tournaments, and over 90% each year say it was better than other tournaments they've attended.
The Fantasy GT I can't comment on as clearly, because I do not know the player base as well - I do know that it is a Master's qualifier, and a lot of pretty solid players show up. I also know that it still has a lot of more laid back people who show up for it. It is a sizeable event as well, closing on another sell-out with 64 spots.

Hey Mike,
How many people are you expecting for the X-wing event? I ask because I've been pretty burnt out on 40k, but recently picked up X-wing and have had a blast playing it. It would also be cheaper and easier to schedule coming up for that Saturday as opposed to the Friday-Sunday that is 40k. Thanks!

Just to clarify, you're aware the Nightfighters is just 4 games - Thurs/Fri/Sat nights, and Sun AM? Just want to make sure if you were looking for more of a full day experience that you didn't miss out on the opportunity witht he warlords track to do 7 total games, one per day Fri/Sat/Sun on top of the Nightfighters, with commander war council sessions and the like.
Glad to have you aboard!

Yeah, that actually works out better for me and gives me a bit more freedom of movement and what not.
Also, to clarify, I can use Imperial Armour army lists in the narrative, correct?
Can I make and submit two separate army lists and then decided which one to take (based on availability of models?)

That'd be up to the Narrative team, but you can certainly try. That said, you will have to decide before you start.

In addition to the posted Nova events, The Kessel Run will be in attendance. Well, Kenny and I anyway. We're doing the Narrative Warlords, so we've got lots of free time during the day to play pickups or just drool over the various ongoing events. Hell, we might try and do one of the campaigns that came with the GR-75 or CR90.
Nova can't get here soon enough!

1st off let me apologize for not being as active as Mike on forums. My home life is very hectic and personally i am not a big forum user.
The submission of lists deadline is 1 hour prior. If you want to submit yours or come in a little earlier thats fine and makes life a little easier on me.
I have been answering emailed questions as fast as i've been receiving them. Any questions just email us.
I want to thank mike and all the staff at the NOVA terrain building meetups for working extremely hard on new terrain for the fantasy GT. Once again, due to both my home life and the distance its been hard to get to DC.

How will NOVA be handling Non-CAD detachments like the Wolves Unleashed, and just for arguments sake the future Nemesis Strike Force from Grey Knights? Are they going to be treated as a CAD or will you be able to use them alongside a CAD?

Due in part to the time available for infinite distinctions (thanks GW! ... we need a Thanks Obama style meme) and the fact that ObSec and points limitations makes most of the combos less than infinitely ridiculous, we're only treating CADs as CADs. So the Ork horde and SW Unleashed are considered detachments, but not CADs.
