Getting attacked depends where you are.
Stay in high-security 'Empire' space, and you're safe enough. The police there are tough, and quick to strike.

But not completely safe. When I used to play,I died several times in hi sec to suicide pirates. Salvaging has its own silly rules too involving initiating hostilities

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM! |

You can never make yourself immune to PvP in EVE. The only way* to make sure nobody can destroy your ship is to never undock.
Similarly, there's very little in the game that isn't PvP. When you sell (or buy) a thing on the market, you're competing with other players, for example, and the market is central to the game.
If you are allergic to ever competing with other people, don't play EVE. If you are okay with competing with people but just don't like shooting them that much, you can be okay.
Also, you won't be able to run away screaming when anyone attacks you, generally, because an aggressor will fit their ship to avoid such an occurrence. You can run away screaming before someone attacks you, and that's pretty much the primary defensive strategy for PvE ships.
Be prepared to lose ships, though.

I keep resubbing to Eve, try to play, find it boring solo or find most learning corps or corps in general are using you as fodder and want to mold you into whatever suits their needs. So I watch my skills grow. Then let the sub run out. Then restart the spiral again.

It's mostly not that complex. It just has a terrible UI that makes it a lot more confusing than it needs to be.
It's a pretty bad game. Its main good attribute is that it's an actual MMO in an industry filled with small group dungeon crawlers claiming to be MMOs. I come back to it for time to time for that.

After much internal conflict, i have decided to pick Eve back up again.
Unfortunately i sold both my accounts so i will be starting fresh again.
I am going to try things i had not done the last time i played back in 2007-2008.
And with that, i applied to GoonSwarm

I played eve a few years ago...but got bored after going on vacation half way through my first paid month and didn't get back into it.;
Assuming I wanted to join a corp, whats the minimum time I could put into the game each week and still have fun with it?

Like anything, depends on what you want out of it.
You could spend zero time and have fun doing something else. You can spend 8 hours a day managing a 4000 member alliance if that's where you get your kicks. Or you login once a week to spin ships for half an hour and update your training queue.
Or somewhere in between where you can mine/explore or blow people up.
Its just so variable. At one point, I was probably doing at least 4 hours a day with 6+ accounts running, most of them time with most of them running simultaneously. Now I'm down to logging in once a week to spin ships and update my training queue.

Let me rephrase that then. Will I be able to make meaningful progress and blow some people up playing a hour or two a day? I think I will make a free trial soon.
Does anyone have a 21 day buddy invite thing? From what I can tell I get 21 days and if I upgrade you get a reward! Let me know!

Yes, there is no such thing as experience points, its all done in real time and advanced skills take literally months to learn so you could play 5 minutes a day and your character would be just as powerful as one that is played 24/7. If you only intend to play a couple of hours a day there will be an issue with in gaining sufficent ingame money to fund yourself although that can be overcome buy simply using real world money or by taking part in EvE's cut throat trading markets. Your biggest obstacle is player skill, EvE is a complex game with a steep learning curve so new and inexperienced players get simply slaughtered in PvP.
I am thinking of renewing my sub as I haven't played in ages and I really should get that Navy issue Megathron that I was aiming for the last time I played.

EVE isn't all that complex. The main problem is the UI is pretty much set up to convey information in the least efficient way possible. This means you will often die and not really know why.
"Slaughtered in PvP" is a bit of an oversimplification, too. PvP in EVE is usually a team thing, and newbies can make a quality contribution to the team in PvP very easily. I'd say their issue is more likely to be making money. The biggest issue newbies have with respect to PvP (actually I sort of hate the term " PvP" in relation to EVE because almost everything you do in EVE is competing with players on some axis) is not knowing all the stupid rules that let you make yourself invincible, like aggression timers and docking invulnerability.

Compared to the MMO standard it really is.
Noobies will also get slaughtered in PvP. If they can find their way into a PvP corp then they will be able to fulfiil some roles until they gain experience but solo PvP will almost always end badly.

Played Eve on and off since 2004. Currently running a 100 man nullsec PVP corp in the CFC. Look me up in Eve (Silent Bruce) if you need any advice, or if you'd like to try nullsec (and you're not a spy).

Okay I found my old account and decided to reactivate it. I think I will start a new character but keep my old one as an alt. I will get in the dakka dakka chat once I am comfortable flying around a bit and will message the people that have put their names on here! Not sure what my name will be though!

the great thing about Eve is that skillsa re time based and even if you don't play frequently you are skill able to train your character to make it better.
as long as you hop on daily for a few min to set your skill training you can easily build up your character for the times you do want to play.
buying a PLEX and selling it on the market is also an easy way to build up your bank account quick so that you do not have to farm for credits for hours.
I decided to not go with GoonSwarm and have instead joined a very small mining corp, i am now back to my old ways running 2 accounts.

I miss EvE from time to time, if only because after the initial grind the game becomes great fun. High level missions yield INSANE rewards and if you're running with a group of friends it can be stupid lucrative.
The thing is though, GETTING there is a giant pain in the ass. You can do it solo, sure, but unless you thrive on playing sandbox games alone (there are those that do) you'll find it frustrating vast. Even though most corps that let rookies join are mining companies or wannabe mercenaries you can learn a gakload just from hanging out with them. What not to do, what to do, ship loadouts to avoid, loadouts to emulate, mining areas, ganking procedures, the list is endless.
I've found EvE to be exceedingly difficult in the beginning but once you reach a certain level (only the player can find it as there are so many different 'levels' of comfort in this game) EvE finally becomes the game you read about on blogs and gaming websites.
*wistful sigh* I miss EvE, a lot actually. With CCP's constant fixing of issues and free expansions, I find it hard to stay away.

So it was a phase. My accounts have been turned off and I have no urge at all to play. I got both accounts back to hi-sec though which makes returning a lot easier in the future.

i havent really found income to be a problem even playing on 2 fresh accounts. i have one account as a miner that i parked in .6 in a venture to mine my eyeballs out and a ratter/hauler that just goes from belt to belt killing stuff until i need to empty my miner.
3 days of this has netted me over 60 million isk worth of "stuff" all while using the free mining ship and a free frigate i was given during the tutorial.
the hardest thing i am having with the game is finding a new player friendly corp that wont scam me, isnt a pvp corp, has more than 10 members and doesnt have a 5m sp join requirement.
i understand corps do not want to just let anyone in to have them quit, but i am definately in for the long haul and would like some decent advice so i can catch up on all of the changes.
i finally found a decent industrial corp and i had to move regions which couldnt have happened at a better time as i was hi-sec ganked for mining in my normal area for no reason. the ganker lost waaaaay more than i did and i made off with a million isk of faction ammo and some expensive riggings.
i still want to try out nullsec and see if i can join the CFC if i find i enjoy it down there, even if i stick to industrial type things.

Gankers are little more than manchildren so I can't say that I am unhappy over his fate.
I'm currently running missions and doing a bit of AFK mining in deadspace pockets, Basically I am aiming for that Navy Mega that I meant to get the last time that I was playing which will take me about 2 months to be able to fly (and properly fit). once I have done that I will doubtless unsubscribe for another couple of years .

Just on this topic, I ended up in a group called Black Thorne Alliance back when I played. They are a carrier construction corp (so mainly interested in mining and mission running). But they have all kinds of people and all kinds of ways to have fun. They operate out of a place called Solitude, which is basically a weird island of ~10 high security systems connected to Empire by a low-sec pipe and squashed up against NPC run 0.0 on the other side. Pretty much the perfect place to ensure nobody ever bothers you ever, of course the market down there was horrible last time I was online, but they had corp jump freighter service to/from Jita so you could at least go shopping for groceries every once and a while.
If that sounds interesting to anybody just google Black Thorne Corp. They have a recruitment forum. Tell them Eddington sent you, maybe some of the old timers will remember me
