Here's an interesting story I believe:
I'm at my FLGS. Normal Sunday morning, the gang's all here, the newbies and vets. We take a break about 2 hours into the games, and these two wargamers, one vet and another relative new guy, start chatting and some of us sit to listen.
Wargamer 1 says: I like most of the fluff of 40k. I especially like the historical references they took for inspiration.
Wargamer 2 responds: Yeah, it is pretty cool. History has taught us a lot.
W1: But I do wonder what GW thinks about us as a human species. Will we ever get there? I mean, I think we started thousands of years ago.
We all sit there and say nothing.
W2: what do you mean?
W1: We already became psykers! I mean, c'mon, the evidence is all around us. There's no way certain historical figures did what they did without supernatural abilities.
We don't know what to tell the guy. Most of us don't really know this newbie. We just know he started playing since the days of 3rd edition.
W2: what are you saying, dude?
W1: I'm saying psykers walk among us! Some "religious" dieties were actually psyker!
I'm gonna stop right here, since going further will be dealing with territory that is discouraged on this forum. But you get the idea. This guy is saying JC was a psyker.
Can one person overthink such works of fiction? Or was his reasoning...well, reasonable? It was a little odd to hear the guy talk about these things, since we know it's all sci-fi BASED on facts, but maybe not all the way as to call it our own human evolution.
Sorry this was so long, but it really is something interesting I wanted to share. Any thoughts?

hmm. If he is truly serious I wouldn't be sure what to think.
I admit it is a fun little thing to think about (and OMG, the amount pulling of "God" from the first testament into the Big E character is ridiculous, almost insulting.) While it is hard to explain how some great people do things I don't think them being "psykers" is the reason lol.

Yeah, this dude seemed pretty serious. This happened two weeks ago, and since then we've learned a little more about him. To summerize, he eats, breathes, and plays 40k. 5k points of EVERY army except Nids (that's 3k points so far.)
It is a fun notion to think about and we've had group discussions about similar topics, but not to that extend.

Well, if you want to engage him in conversation, you could point out that the Islamic belief is that Jesus was a prophet - someone who was visited by God to pass on messages, like Mohammed is in Christianity.
If you want to define a Psyker as someone with supernatural abilities bestowed by accessing a cosmic overmind, then sure, Jesus, Mohammed, whoever were all Psykers (if you take God as the Warp, which isn't far off).

It is possible, not very probable I would imagine but it could be possible. I think if there were characters who in history were with 'talents' though, I can't imagine all having the morale standing not to take over the world....You'd also have to question that actual true nature of these talents, were they telekinetic, psychoscopy etc and that is where the theory falls apart as many are quite unbelievable.
It is similar in a theoretical sense as to ones I have myself, please note, mine don't have anything to do with psychic powers or magic mind, and please also note that whilst I am not a religious man, I respect that others do practice faith and I'm glad that they do, as the world would be a boring place if everybody thought the same.

Though I get what you're saying, easy on the religious topic. We don't want this thread getting blocked by a Mod. Though this has been a generally well civilized conversation, I'd like to keep it going. But thank you for your input, it is a rational way to look into it.

Maybe some of our leaders throughout history had something similar to what the Ethereals use to keep the Tau in-line.....

If you guys are into paranormal. The warp and its traits are a hell of alott alike. Demons in "real life" feed off of chaos, clutter and primal emotions such as fear, anger and dispair. Then you have empowerment the power of your energys to cause harm to others or protect them. Poultergiest are a real thing and are the essence or raw emotions feed and manifested by a hosts energys. Isnt that what physkers do? Feel free to disagree with me on this but I believe there is an evolutionary leap mankind is just beggining to aproach look at how many people have witnessed ghosts, objects moving or that cold chill on the back of your neck. Your body can harness energys we have yet to fully comprehend. A man like the emperor is possible but society would have to be plunged into a world of unkown before hand.

How is that any different from the people who get way too in with fictional settings and say "Christian" is their religion, and don't mean it as a joke? It's not like the Jedi religion is any less believable than the more popular religions.

Points for being on-theme and giving a good example of the stupid people in the OP's story, but to really complete the tinfoil-hat act you should include some links to random youtube videos and conclude your post with "OMG I HEAR THE BLACK HELICOPTERS COMING TO GET ME! AFK!".

Known something without having had reason to know?
There's a lot that happens to us, that are all probably all just our sub-concious picking up cues, and passing them along as knowledge.
So, like dragons, most societies have myths about magic or innate powers, it's probably all based on off-hand comments getting put together and exaggerated.

I agree with the guy the OP is talking about a bit, I mean come on, we've all had those weird moments when we knew something when frankly we shouldn't of. Such as that feeling you've already been there or experienced something (and no, I'm not on about Deja vu before someone mentions it)
but it kinda seems like this guy is a firm die hard believer that pyskers exist, which makes me think he's a bit to ingrossed in 40K fluff and wishes it was real.
but hey, we all have our theories about life and who is to say this guy isn't right!

Such topics of conversation make me think of Tom Hanks in Mazes and Monsters. (And nothing that makes me think of Tom Hanks is a good thing).
For those that don't know, Mazes and Monsters was a film about LARPers where Ton Hanks is a Hollywood Schizophrenic (i.e. movie version of the condition) and starts believing the LARP'ing is real. Came out in the early Eighties and sent those American parents prone to over-reaction (most of them? ) into paroxysms of terror that their D&D playing sprogs were going to be jumping from rooftops thinking they could fly. It got tied into the general "Satanic Role-Playing" hysteria that swept through certain sections of America and (embarrassingly) Britain.
It also has the theme that people play role-playing games because they're failures and need to escape reality. Let us just say that the film is unpopular with the Table Top RPG set of a certain generation. Automatically Appended Next Post: tomball0706 wrote:I mean come on, we've all had those weird moments when we knew something when frankly we shouldn't of.
You mean like walking in on your parents playing kinky sex games? Yes. Absolutely should not have known that and yes, definitely qualifies as a weird moment.

I feel that the dude in the original post talking about as Historical figures as being Psykers, could be one of three possibilities.
#1 He is a quack! The dude actually believes His drivel.
#2 He is a Prankster! The dude is lying through his teeth for his own enjoyment, just to see how many folks he can get to buy into his latest story.
#3 He is just plain bored. I am guilty of this from time to time of coming up with completely crazy theoretical hypothesis, just to spark a conversation.
Without being there to read the body language, and ask the dude questions to trip him up in his tale, it is hard to tell what type of dude this dude is.

Lol tin hat. I never said the world will turn into 40k i just compared known facts as a simple observer one can understand with out believing notice how i said "the real" world. Simply to ignore facts is ignorant understand both sides before you come to conclusions or you answers will obviously become bias. I will say again to understand is not to believe.
