Subject: How do I acquire plastic board game pieces?

Legendary Master of the Chapter

Hello all,
For a long time, I've been collecting plastic board game pieces--mostly spaceships--to paint or convert. I bought the Starcraft board game, a Twilight Imperium expansion, Starfleet Captains and its expansion, etc., but I finally have to admit that I will never get to play most of those games and they are just too expensive to buy for the minis. I still want the mini ships, though.
So, does anyone know how or where I can buy juts the plastic ships from, say, Eclipse, Battleship Galaxies, Star Trek Catan, the Twilight Imperium: Shards of Throne expansion, or any other interesting boardgames? Or any good plastic space ships in general? I have tried buying through the manufacturers' websites, but generally haven't had any luck. (Flying Frog Games is the only one I know of who sell their minis separate from the game.)
I appreciate any suggestions.

Back in the day many (most?) boardgame and wargame manufacturers used to offer replacement parts for many of their games. You said you haven't had much luck with manufacturers' websites; have you tried writing to or calling any of those manufacturers directly to ask if they sell the ships separately; perhaps intended as replacements, but available? Maybe modern production and supply doesn't make this as feasible, but it can't hurt to ask.

Look for secondhand and/or incomplete sets on eBay, and so on.

You might want to have a look at the ships em4 do (bottom of the linked page):

I vaguely remember these are the fighters from the old Silent Death boxed game. You get a lot of them including flight stands.

I've got the original Silent Death metals and the ships are very good, I'm not certain how that transferred to the plastics that em4 do but at that price they're certainly worth a look You can also pick up a bunch of decent ship minis originally intended for FASAs Renegade legion (these are metal though) http://www.pfc-cinc.com/rl_spacefighters.html eg

I found them to be well moulded and fairly sharply detailed. Minimal mould lines. See some of the ones I've been using as escort ships in Full Thrust and various aircraft in Epic below.

I have a bunch of them. They're great. I was playing pew-pews with them during the Robotech Kickstarter. Automatically Appended Next Post: I have a bunch of metal ships for BFG, Noble Armada, Babylon 5, Firestorm Armada (well, resin for them), and I'm finding that I just prefer plastic so much that I hardly ever even look at the metals anymore.

There's some pretty interesting stuff there. I was mostly looking for spaceships, but a lot of the historical stuff is priced to move for me. Two subs glued bottom to bottom with an abrams on each side works as a space ship for me...
