that is a pretty awesome conversion indeed, cant wait to see what character you go for next.
It would be interesting to see how you would do a Forge Father as Thor... would that make him a ThorFather?

Cheers man, I was in games workshop and I saw a drybrush paint called skink blue and I instantly thought "I need to use that on this model" the rest of it came from Wrinklestitskin's version, the colour scheme just seemed to work so well, although I was also thinking of chopping the horns off as well.

It's all sponge painting on the base white. I won't lie. I got drunk and knocked out a bunch of terrain in an evening. It was kinda fun.
So, looking through this thread I see a much better look at the 4 launch factions than I've seen before. The Marauder and Reb Captains both have their foot on a box or chest. "Got A Little Capt'n In Ya?" You can't tell me that's an accident.

Heh, Nice quick and easy way of knocking out scenery in bulk, cant complain if it works if you get a chance I would say use a tiny bit of metallic paint around some of the edges to give a really bare metal chipped paint look to them.
I have to admit the foot on the box does seem to be a reoccurring thing in commander miniatures, especially if they are the dodgy law flaunting type...
for example:

Very nice rebs there, small little details making each one unique and more of a rag-tag band of un-experienced fighters from the general populace who have just picked up a gun and got a bit of rebellion in their lives.
I like the idea for the two drones, I may have to do something similar with mine when I get round to it.

Depends on what skin tone your going to be doing, are you going for the traditional green skinned orcs or are you going to try something new?
Personally I think a wet blend effect from black to bright red on the armour plates would look pretty cool

From the fluff on the warpath orx I'd be tempted to go with blood axes scheme, given their supposed to be efficient copying human soldiers.
I'm thinking of converting some Warpath Orx from some plastic Ork bits I've got hanging around With purple camo as the paint scheme.

Mainly it's Orks in camo, Normally bright impractical camo as the orks try to ape the imperial forces they encounter.

So, for the last two or so weeks I was occupied painting a bunch of GW Orks to use as proxy Marauders (I gave the team from my Strike set away), but now I finally started building Deadzone terrain.
As I already have decent amount of outdoor scenery I'm planning to use the DZ scenery for a set of interchangeable interior terrain boards. Im calling it... (drum roll): Deadzone Mortalis!
This is the first of my four planned boards; 12"x12" 3mm mdf embellished with some floor detailing cut from thin card.
I've primed it with a rust base and plan to give it the hairspray treatment - sadly, my FLGS was out of Army Painter Uniform Grey Spray, so the boards'll have to wait until he has restocked.
This is the layout it'll have when finished - I'll paint walls and floors seperately and fix the walls on the boards afterwards (probably use superglue and pinning)
Good thing is that I need less of the floor plates - so I have more solid elements to use for corridors. I'm planning to order some of the new sprues from the 2nd pledge managers so I can add some diagonal walls. If I've got some stuff left after finishing four boards I'll try and build some 'modular' upper storeys. We'll see.
As I can't really go ahead with the boards, I built some 'scatter' terrain from some bits I had laying around:
I'll probably skip markings or numerals on them - that way I can easily use the horizontally or vertically. Simple drain pipe corners given the hairspray/salt AND sponge/Charadon Granite AND Gryphonne Sepia treatment on a 'corner base' cunningly designed to fit the 3" deadzone squares.

Sure, most of the techniques are pretty simple -
The salt and hairspray technique is pretty well known these days. For terrain I simply basecoat them in Army Painter Fur Brown (sometimes I use black spray underneath that). After the undercoat has dried I spray some hairspray on the object and drizzle some salt on it (if I'm feeling decadent I use Fleur de Sel which is a bit rougher and gives bigger areas of chipped paint). After that has dried I simply spraypainted it with white primer - I like the industral look of that and it contrasts well with the stuff underneath. Let that dry and then use some running water and a big brush to get rid of the salt. (I'll be using that technique on the terrain boards as well - as soon as I get my grey primer).
Afterwards I went ahead with the sponge technique - basically the same method used by blooddave on his nice scenery a couple of posts above. I think both examples show that it usually works best on bright backgrounds. You simply use a bit of sponge or foam, dip it in a colour that represents either the primer undercoat or even the dull metal. I always found Charadon Granite from the old Citadel foundation range to be quite nice for both purposes. (I don't know what is the modern equivalent of that - luckily I bought a couple of pots before they changed their paints.) Any old dark grey or brown (or mix thereof) will do nicely.
The you lightly dab the foam on your object (maybe try it on a sheet of paper before to see if the sponge is too drenched), focussing on the edges where paint has chipped off and flat areas where you might want to break up the monotony a bit. To finish it off I painted some bare metal spots on the edges and at the center of some of the larger areas - you can see that on the second pipe image.
Finally I used some Sepia ink (Gryphonne? Seraphim? whatever) to deepen the corrosion in the deepest recesses, around the edges and the contact points between pipe and base - to create a sort of 'bleed' around the rusted areas, so to speak. You could go ahead with a little Agrax Earthshade in certain spots (or to create oil puddles and smears).
Excluding drying time between steps each of the pipe thingies took about 10-15 minutes to finish. At about 99 cents per pipe corner a pretty cost and time effective piece of terrain. I'm already planning my next raid at the DIY store.

Cheers Bomster, I've studied the hair lacquer method before but never with sea salt, that is something I'm going to need to experiment with when I get round to doing my terrain pieces for my deadzone board which could be some time considering how long its taking me to paint the huge pile of miniatures I have left.
Hey JoshinJapan, nice to see some more miniatures from you, keep up the good work Automatically Appended Next Post: oh, forgot to mention as well, nice work Privateer4hire, some interesting decayed colours you have there for your plague, and it seems you've also gone for the official purple/pink flesh tone that mantic have done theirs in, it seems to be a bit of a rarity.

Hey timetowaste85, I was thinking about colour schemes today and I had this thought which might fit with your marvel style deadzone miniatures, how about taking this reb:
