That would actually be another good idea...hmmm...crap. Two hard choices. Skrulls or Hydra? Dammit!!

hmmm Skrull would be good if your doing traditional green skin but the uniforms style and tech are more suitable for hydra, its a difficult choice but I think the hydra look would be pretty cool. What colour skin are you going for?

That's what I was thinking, but I'm not familiar enough with them to know if they even have a readily transferable/notable scheme.

The skin is reddish-brown. Not going for the traditional Ork color scheme. So yeah, Hydra it is.

Cool. My marauder tone ended up darker brown so it'll be good to see someone else do red in that case. I may still try to work in some different tones, no reason they're all the same shade.

Tuskgor Fur is the shade I used. Forgot the name for a bit. I have the first guy started, and the influence is definitely Hydra. HAIL HYDRA!! HAIL HYDRA!! Leaders will, of course, be Red Skull, Baron Zemo and Wolfgang Von Strucker.

Sweet. I haven't thought of any good tribute/themes for my dead zone stuff. I've got all manner of ideas for my growing infinity collection, but deadzone and warpath stuff so far has been fairly neutral/serious. I'll just have to work in some levity via billboards and other terrain elements. Automatically Appended Next Post: I think one of the vampire count boxes had an extra big skull for a standard topper, would almost work for red skull, but I guess he usually has a no-skin muscles showing face doesn't he...
I've heard the other names but don't know enough to make suggestions.

The Marauder Captain from Warpath will be the Wolfgang Von Strucker model, seeing how he has that GIANT gauntlet up in the air-works fairly well for Strucker's famous life-stealing gauntlet. Zemo is going to be the close combat specialist model with two knives, when I get him in. He'll be wearing purple!!

Had a first attempt at the Marauders last night- going for a Cadian-esque AM scheme I think. Now I hate painting flesh generally but I think I made a pretty decent job of the Ork I was painting last night

Free at last...just finished the last piece of terrain about an hour ago. I've fully finished my strike team pledge and now plan to take a little break. Will pull out the good camera tomorrow evening and take pictures of each faction. I've shown bits and pieces, but the iphone pics just aren't cutting it.
Decided to have fun with the terrain and play with inks, washes and dry brushing. All were primed with Army Painter Uniform Grey spray, then some were color inked directly, some were inked in black and then washed and some were just washed. Then everything was dry brushed with whatever I had on hand. I think the black ink and then brighter colors (like orange and red) gave the best effect.
Half the mercenaries.
and the other half.

Awesome Enforcers Triple9 . My brother has yet to apply more than just the primer to his (I think he may be suffering Painter's block as to where to go with em).
I like how you've posed the heads- as if they're on patrol, checking rooftops for threats

sweet, lots more cool stuff coming in, Triple9 I love your enforcers and the merc figures are great especially the Recon and Wrath mini's.
Not sure what to make of the muli coloured scenery tiles though, were you going for a shipping yard approach with lots of crates and buildings from different suppliers and companies?
I don't know about the rest of you but there is some kind of arcane joy about taking discarded trash, bits of packaging and empty model sprue's....
Splattering them with paint, glue and sand... and breathing life into something that was dead....
Modellers are indeed Trashromancers!!!

Thanks folks. I think the mercenaries in general were a blast to paint as I didn't have to think about context of an army color scheme. Rebs were fun for a similar reason due to the alien skin tones.
My thought around the garish colors of the scenery was that it's such a miserable place to live/work, that one of the few joys in life are the bright colors. One of those things that I tend to associate with pictures of harsh living conditions in magazines is how much more vibrant colors seem to be. I probably could have just primed as I did, inked everything black and highlighted and stopped there. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but I had fun and learned a ton about using inks and washes.
Plague incoming. I've put up the 1A and 2A's before, but including new shots of them again for completeness. I'll do Marauders tomorrow and Rebs as well if I have time.
Pants are Feldgrau and skin base is US Army Green, but the separation isn't coming across very well on the pics. I didn't do eyes on the 3A's beyond shading as I wanted a dead eye effect. Noticing in the pictures that green in general tends to not photograph as well as it looks in person. Shading and highlighting don't seem to come across and the colors seem to just muddle together.
My original plan for the scenery was to do it the same as the 2A on the right

I haven't posted here in a while, but great stuff everyone!
@JayDeeOT and Grim: I'm with you entirely on turning random junk into terrain, it's great fun and really something unique. I reckon since I started repurposing junk, I can fill nearly twice as many squares at ground level. I'm also getting an ungodly amount of bottle-cap barrels.

By bottle-cap barrels? I may steal that idea!

Just take the caps of two soda/coke/whatever bottles, glue them together and sometimes put a plasticard band around the middle if the join is ugly. Bob's your uncle!

Super easy, look pretty ok. I need some more DZ/Infinity/scifi friendly signs to print out though
If you want images of the ring of card inside the barrels look up Adamsouza's scratchbuild on the cheap thread, a few pages back from current, he recently built a bunch and did it right (mine are going to fall apart eventually ).
Damn Infinity and Dr Who minis.... I really need to get back to my marauders

If only I had come into this epiphany of junk usage before I bought upwards of 14 battlezones Oh well, it'll all get used eventually
Seriously considering making my own version of that Dreadball Xtreme prison dreadball pitch, basically a large area marked off by 1 high bz tiles, with some higher platforms and such, enough to fit one of the DB pitches into it. Could double up as a sport/arena for other systems too.

My DZ painting is coming to a pause. I'm in the process of moving AND just started painting up my Khador models. Oh well, my main Enforcer squad is painted, as is a full Plague squad, so I'm okay with pausing. Expect my return to painting in full strength with a bunch of AoA rebels to show in the future.

A dreadball area a converted into a refugee camp so you wouldn't have a massive open space?
Have the dreadball pitch/refugee camp as removable pieces and your golden

^Yes, this is a good idea All manner of junk would likely be strewn about on the pitch/arena, unless a given scenario needed the open space.

Marauders are up tonight. Previously, I've put up the General, one of the Mawbeast and a ripper suit (maybe both), but much better pictures this time around. Finally figured out how to use a light source with the camera. Rebels to come tomorrow; I don't think I've posted any of them yet, so will get to snicker at the pink dinosaur.
I really hated this faction when I first got it, but they were a pleasure to paint. Used an American Civil War Union color scheme, but couldn't figure out how to make it work with the ripper suits, so went with British Khaki.
These guys had a horrible mold line right down the middle of their face, which was one of the primary reasons I was dreading painting them, but the paint hides it pretty well.
I had planned to paint them in Berdan Sharpshooter uniforms, but the green on green would have been a bit much.
