So the white and gold are officially done (for now). Now all I have to do is the black armour....and the sword.....ugh

Sorry for the lack of activity; christmas fun and all that. I've got a bit of motivation right now so I'm starting on his sword; I'll be going for a blue crystal look, however this is the first time doing it so there might be some mistakes

Ugh...I want to blend it up kind of like how you see people do eldar crystal weapons, I'm just really bad at it; I can never get the dark and light gradients properly. Wrost case I'll just do a lightning effect on the blade

The trick is - keep your paints thin! I don't just mean watered down like usual.... Like really thin! You'll have to do heaps of coats but the blend should work well. I find blending to sky blue through hawk turquoise works best (not sure what the current equivalents are) and then highlighting up to skull white/white scar

Creating the reflection effect is what I have trouble with; getting the contrasting patches even and not wonky looking over blending :/

K so I've decided to go with the lightning (or at least try it first). Sadly because of gift wrapping I'm only going to do the one layer tonight, however there is some good news in that I finally found the rest of my forge world back packs . So the two back packs I'll be using (magnetized) and the first layer of lighting

The resin is from the Forgeworld Raven Guard conversion kit. It gives 5 torsos, 5 backpacks, 5 bolters, 7 helmets, and 10 pads

I would avoid the lightning effect, only because it's like when someone plans on doing hazard marks, they get like one model done and quickly decide to never do it again. Did you need any magnets?

Lightning is fairly easy to do, it's just like 3 layers in total. And besides, his weapon can be the burning blade or a paragon blade or relic blade, so it's alright if it's unique. And ya magnets would be cool

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement. With the holiday crazyness winding down i put the second layer on the lightning, and I got to say I'm pretty pleased with how its turning out. Theres some areas that need a touch up, but that can happen in between layers

Well I think it's safe to say there was no need to worry about the lightning, that looks awesome!

So I finally (mostly) got the sword to a point that I like. Strangely it looks darker even though it has more highlights. Only have to do the backpacks, grip and all the armour now

Might be because you final highlights went over the brighter (not to be confused w lighter) midtone/s

Yea I probably erased a lot of pure Arcane Blue I used for my midtone while I was cleaning up my highlights. I'm still pretty pleased with the results. On to priming the backpacks

I have like ~25 Jump pack infantry so it made sense to at least have an option for him to go with them. Tbh I'm probably going to use that pack with a scratch built chapter master

Fair enough. Game wise the jump pack's a good option
