I have now got both nex gen consoles, lucky me hey! Got the Xbox on day one but only had the PS4 for 2 days. So very early days but my initial impressions are that the Ps4 is better than the Xbox One! The PS4 controller is better quality and is rechargeable straight out of the box, the One needs a battery pack and I initially bought the Game version which was sh*t. I took it back & got an official Xbox one which works better but come on, next gen controller that you need to spend £20- £25 more on to just be able to recharge it! PS4 tethers off the iPhone without a problem where as the Xbox continues to refuse to do this and thanks to all the downloads I have needed to do it has eaten up the download limit on the broadband already! The games were playable much quicker with the PS4 compared to the One. Need to play battlefield back to back to compare them, we will see how it goes. It is a shame that the PSN network is now charging but let's face it Xbox gold is the same price & they have been doing it for years! I haven't tried playing a bluray yet in the PS4 but on the Xbox you need to download an app to do this, just a bit odd if you ask me. The new menu system on both systems annoys me, it just doesn't seem intuitive and the PS3 & 360 menus worked so well. Maybe I just have to get used to them but I seem to hit points where I get stuck & it isn't clear how to get around it. So as I said early days let's see how I feel after a month!

As old fashioned as this might sound, how do the games play out? Are the graphics on a par with a high end pc? Good graphics, etc?

I think you'll need to wait for people to really get the best out of the systems before judging.

I also heard that rumor but there are a lot of things being said about the XBone right now (like system failures) but nothing to say if its true or common.

If 720p and 20fps is your idea of high end pc then yes, consoles are par with pc.

No. It's if you upload a recording, whether a gameplay stream or a recording of yourself, with swearing/cursing where you can get suspended from Xbox Live.

Reason is that your uploads are public and tied to your profile, there is no "Enter your birthdate to view DoucheBag1337's Videos" option.

This exactly. What you heard sounds like fanboy flamebait. I personally like the idea of having the other stuff the xbox one provides because honestly gaming is only about half of what I use my 360 for, the whole family uses it for various things like Netflix and music etc, so for me the One is a better fit. I have nothing against the playstation and think it too is a great system, but after being hands on with both I like the Xbox for my purposes.

Lol, I do agree, some of the video capture stuff and sharing ability goes a bit far for the xbox, have seen some vids of stuff people have been sharing and all I can say is: Oh boy...

But the Skype is great, the other half's family lives on the East Coast so the kiddos and wife can Skype with them.

I don't have a high end PC to compare them to but they are not as bad as 720p and 20fps. Admitedly the games I have played so far are lower than 1020p but making at least 60 fps, I certainly don't feel they are juddery at all! I could have probably bought a high end pc for what I have spent on the two consoles but then I am hoping these two should see me through 8- 10 years of gaming without upgrades! I haven't used all the abilities of the two machines yet but the xbone might come into it's own when the likes of Titanfall and project sparks hit. Oh and lets not forget Halo. I am really looking forward to destiny but you will be able to play that on any platform so I will get it on what is my fav at the time.
As for being baned for swearing well on most games I have the mike off unless playing with a group of friends, I suppose just be careful what you load!

I'll probly end up with both at some point but for now the Ps4 comes out ahead.

My buddie bought both at launch and I got to be there when he set them up and played. Both systems had a few glitches but the day one edition was busted. he had to take it back and get the standard. Not surprisingly the Kinect is still as derpy as ever. I see very little improvement and I'd rather not buy it if I don't have too.

I'll wait tell later on in the systems life cycle for them to work the kinks out and possibly drop the Kinect to make it cheaper. We'll see.

Don't get either.

Though to be fair, in the new NBA2k14 game, you can get a technical foul called for swearing while in online play.

Right now I'm trying to decide between a Wii U and the PS4. I ruled out the xbox one rather quickly since the PS4 just has it beat in too many ways that "matter to me".

I really like the PS4 from a hardware perspective (blueray, internal power supply, controller), but Nintendo IMO has it beat on games. I'm not just talking current releases (obviously since nintendo had a 1 year headstart), but on future titles.

The backward compatibility issue is also killing me on the PS4. They are releasing a final fantasy X HD remake, but on the PS3..... I can't play it on the PS4 sigh. I would really be buying the PS4 for final fantasy 15 and the blueray until something came out that interested me. Unfortunately the shooters are off the table since I maintain a good gaming PC.

Sigh killer hardware with a few good games or meh hardware with an insane lineup games/backwards compatibility :( !!

Edit: I could easily just buy both, but I can't justify the usage of space and money since I wouldn't have time for both. I'm already swamped between PC gaming, miniature wargaming/modelling, work, friends, etc...

Well don't get a WiiU gossipmeng. That thing is basically a lost cause. No one's buying any, people aren't making games for it, and it's going to die a painful death.

Given that you sound busy already you could just wait until the next line-up of games comes out for PS4. Infamous Second Son looks great and so does several upcoming titles that would be absolutely amazing on a next-gen machine. If you wait even longer you can get it when it gets a price-drop.

They also might be bringing the sexy Vita/PS4 bundle eventually to North America which would go pretty far in terms of satiating any lack of games that the PS4 might have early on given the pretty good repository of games the Vita has.

When it comes to the WiiU the main thing you have to consider is if you want it REALLY BAD for the 1st party games (which admittedly seem to be pretty good so far). Because beyond the Mario, Zelda, and other core Nintendo games I don't see it having the longevity that the PS4 will have given its inferior tech, lack of third party support (including indie titles like Resogun) and more importantly lack of similar online multiplayer capability. One thing I also find disheartening at least from Nintendo is the serious lack in attempts to push new IP's like Naughty Dog's The Last of Us and instead playing the safe game with their standard first party titles rather than supplementing these titles with more forays into different stories or game-types.

I liked the idea of the Wii U when I first heard about it, but not enough to buy one. I knew PS4 and Xbox were right around the corner too and they would have the better lineup.

I think they should just take the iPad looking controller and sell that separately as the Game Boy U or something.

A high end PC will make 'next gen' graphics look like a toddlers watercolour, even a fairly average gaming PC will run rings around them..

Consoles are effectively pcs with low to average specs with the advantage that they have standardised hardware so developers can wring every last byte out of them so they are more powerful than their specs suggest, a bit anyway.

The only console that I would even consider getting is the Steambox and even thats highly unlikely.

If you're a PC gamer there's pretty much nothing the "next gen" consoles can offer to make them worthwhile right now. Things will improve, sure, but at the moment most of the big releases are on PC anyway, and look better on PC, meaning that both new consoles have pretty pathetic launch lineups.

If you don't have a PC that can run current games not only do my SLI'd Titans feel sorry for you, but they also suggest you get a PS4 if you want the best (console) versions of things like Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed 4 and even CoD: Ghosts.

The only thing the XBone has going for it right now is Titanfall, and that's coming out on PC where it will look better (assuming Respawn don't feth up the PC port).

It's EA. Don't count on it.

Yeah, the publisher, who has the final say on deadlines, porting, finances, microtransactions etc. etc. etc.

For me, and my aging back and slowly developing carpal tunnel, I'll gladly pick any console over PC gaming anyday. Playing a few hours on a sofa > sitting hunched over a PC for a few hours.

Yeah, I can hook a pc up to my tv and get a game pad and all that stuff, but I don't wanna. Cuz gaming PCs are expensiver than consoles. I just want an all in 1 system I can hook up and not worry about for the next 5 years or whatever it takes till the next one comes out. I'm old and lazy.

Can't wait for the next crash.
