Subject: Not Shocking News: Disney Aquires Indiana Jones
In what seemed an inevitable outcome of Disney acquiring all of Lucasfilm’s properties—and soon, the world—Paramount has ceded its Indiana Jones distribution and marketing rights to the studio, with Disney tossing them an idol of as-yet-undisclosed value while demanding that Paramount give them the whip, and all ancillary uses of said whip. Under the new arrangement, Variety erroneously reports that Paramount will still control “the first four films” in the franchise, despite there only being three, as well as receive a cut of any potential future Indiana Jones films—a prospect that now also seems inevitable.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

It looks like they already have, since there were 4: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade, and That Which We Don't Speak Of. Perhaps the AV club was making a snide allusion to such, much as how I often am glad there were never any sequels to The Matrix.
Maybe someone can edit Mickey into this, in time.

I'll wait to see how they handle Star Wars VII before complaining, but I think Indiana Jones should remain as a trilogy.

No; they'd need to edit out Shia la whatsisface too... Which would take away most of the fething movie anyway!
It wasn't the fridge that killed it for me. that fits the "Pulp" sci-fi and serial feel to me.
No, it was when the monkeys attacked the commies for no reason that made my willingness to suspend disbelief snap. Perhaps it was a culmination of credulity straining event sthat final just hit the tipping point at that scene.
Also, any word on if they now own the rights to the "Young" Indiana Jones series of tv shows? The WWI episodes were kind of interesting IIRC.

Once you strip away the rosy tint of nostalgia, you realize that these movies, while highly entertaining, were never really "great" films. I would like to personally laugh in the faces of anyone who decries the Fridge of Nuclear Salvation as being beyond the scope of their suspension of disbelief, but don't seem to mind the ability of the thuggee priest and his heart-removing shenanigans.
Disney has proven that they can manage to produce a watchable action/adventure film. The Indy franchise is going to be fine.

In fairness, that was suppose to be "magic".

There is a moment in Raiders of the Lost Ark wherein Indiana Jones emerges from the water and climbs atop the Nazi submarine as it leaves harbour, just as the fanfare begins to play.
I have yet to encounter a single person who can resist smiling and generally just beaming at the moment.
I consider that a hallmark of a great film.

Not only did I like it, I liked it better than Temple of Doom.
I'm excited that Disney has ahold of Indy. Like Star Wars, it has an almost inexhaustible appeal, and Disney has a proven track record of being willing to produce inexhaustible sequels. So long as it doesn't get the straight-to-video treatment that some of their animated franchises get, (which seems unlikely) I think both of those properties are only going to profit from the new relationship.
There's a certain mindset, however, that only wants to view these films through the grease smeared lens of nostalgia; for them no sequel will ever be as good as the originals. It can't be, since they're viewing any new film as an adult. If they hadn't seen the originals as naive children, but instead saw them for the first time as adults, I think they would dislike the originals too.
Then again, I'm a die-hard Highlander fan, so it's entirely possible that I just have an abnormally high tolerance for ever-increasingly abysmal sequels.
No one ought to complain about realism in these films, they aren't supposed to be realistic but fantasy in a 20th century setting.

It just won't feel the same without the Paramount logo being used to introduce the movie, though.

When Indy was standing on a jeep speeding through the jungle and daringly jumped past a conveniently placed machine gun in order to get into an over the top swordfight - it should have been a sign that the magic wasn't going to be there.
One of the greatest moments in movie history

The last Indiana Jones movie wasn't great but it's certainly not as bad as people make it out to be I give it about a 6/10, I mean there was plenty of flaws but there was still some good stuff in it.

Well, that series was made WITH Disney, too. I think it's part of the deal. I'd like to see another take on young indy, personally. One with a less self-destructive "young star".
