Subject: Traitors' plan regarding the astronomicon
|
 |
On a Canoptek Spyder's Waiting List
|
First off, the astronomicon is, as far as I can tell, the catalyst that made the Great Crusade possible to begin with. Sure navigators can navigate a ship through the warp, but even with their supernatural sight, the going is slow and treacherous, with only relatively short jumps being possible. Without the astronomicon, traversing the galaxy becomes a feth-load harder and more time consuming. Secondly, the Emperor is the only being capably of powering it, even before his ascension to the golden throne. So no emperor, no astronomicon.
Now, seeing as the traitors all had giant murder boners for the Emperor, what was their plan regrading powering it after they killed him?

I would guess that their plan was to start by holding the Emperor in captivity in a stasis field after critically wounding him or using some boon of the dark powers to bring him back to life in a state where he's helpless to stop them from placing him in a stasis field, and then forcing him to power it.
Otherwise, Deus Ex Machina given by the Chaos Gods, presumably; or maybe the influence of Chaos would just mean that all warp travel would be performed in the manner in which servants of Chaos in 40k currently go about it.

Post-Heresy planning wasn't really a strong suit of the traitors.
If they'd thought about what they were doing, they wouldn't have done it.
Ignorance is bliss. Well, at least if you turn to Slaanesh.

I'm sure they could set up something similar. In some BL novels the forces of Chaos learn to navigate the warp without the use of the Astronomicon's light.

I'd say they don't need it, the Astronomicon is a guiding light through the Warp, the Chaos Gods wouldn't be against their own so where The Imperium needs a light to guide their navigators and coordinates that keep them out of system when entering and exiting the warp, anyone working for Chaos isn't hindered. They have a more 'free' travel ability.

Sorcerers are capable of navigating the Warp without benefit of the beacon.
Also, the traitors didn't really have much of a plan. Horus' entire motivation was "they won't build statues of me, so let the galaxy burn", nothing more, nothing less. Lorgar just wanted everyone to embrace the voices in his head, so being randomly sodomized and eaten by daemons while traveling would be seen as a blessing. Everyone else just kind of tagged along.

They wouldn't need it. The warp is the Dark Gods house. You don't take your friend and invite him into your house with loads of traps in it. You would make it easy fir them. Automatically Appended Next Post:

The Warp is apart from the Chaos Gods. They are of it, it is not of them....
... and there are plenty of Warp-Predators that hold no allegiance to the Gods of Chaos.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |
