So last night I was working on some obliterators for an upcoming painting competition at our flgs, and as I was finishing up for the night I began to try and plan out the next unit I wanted to do. I tried to think of what all I had for csm and realized that I didn't actually have even a ball park estimate of what had, what I had built, or what was even primed lol. I have so many models for csm that I don't even know what models are armed with what either!

What are your moments that made you stop and realize that you just have way too much?

When i couldnt fit any more on my shelf and when 80% of my guard gathered dust. It was an amazing collection but i decided to sell all of it at that point and start fresh.

When I stubbed my toe on a case full of models that I had on the ground because I had no room left on my stacked columns of GW cases. I have cases full of models, big boxes full of NIB stuff efficiently stacked, and tons of AoBR boxes filled to capacity with tons of troops with all my armies. I'm fairly certain I'll die before getting through painting all this stuff.

I've got detachments of five different armies, and I STILL don't have enough. I'd say I have 'too many' models when I can't conceivably field them all.

I don't know about owning too many, but when I take them to club it seems a little over-the-top. I'll usually bring 3 armies, and sometimes something extra like The Hobbit SBG or DeadZone, and then end up getting only 1-3 1k point games in and not even using half the stuff I brought. That said, I just know that whatever I leave behind will be something I need, so it all gets brought along. On the plus side, I always have the models spare to lend to someone who's lacking some or is new to the game.

This. I have a rule that my models are not allowed to spill out of my nerd lair (my version of a "man cave") with exception of my workbench in the basement.

When i start running out of closet and shelf space in the nerd lair, there's a problem. I have two closets in the nerd lair, one of them walk-in, and i have an ikea cube shelving system that is 6 ft tall by 6 ft wide.

I totally empathize with this ! When i used to go to a local gaming club, i'd go with about 5500 points of cygnar (for those that used to play MK1, that's fething enormous ... a normal game size was 500-750 depending on your penchant for epic casters). I still tend to do that today, i bring a totally overkill amount of gak to game nights that i'll never end up needing. It's actually one of my gaming resolutions to NOT do this anymore, haha. I'll bring enough points of one army to play for the evening to cover the games we're reasonably going to play, not bring my whole goddamn collection "just in case".

Never. Enough. Models!

I don't have nearly as many models as the people who post here, but I'm on my way here. I've already had problems where to put the boxes, and my models no longer all fit in the large travel bag I specifically bought for that purpose.

When I realized I've spent almost as much on storage as I've spent on models.

my problem is not the models.... its the left over sprue with bits, that i just cant throw out.

i love converting and kit bashing... so i never chuck a sprue unless its totally empty. the amount of this stuff.... well its close to 12 years of collecting. and just about every army out there.

i really need to get a better way of orginizing and storing them tho...

This something I also have problems with. I just can't bring myself to throw out sprue if there's as much as one piece on it, no matter how many spare bolters, grenades, pouches, heads and arms I have, I just can't throw it away for fear I'll need it one day. And for some reason, I can never be bothered to do the sensible thing and cut them from the sprue, so I have boxes and boxes of near-empty sprues just lying around, probably taking up as much space as the models that came off them.

I do cut them from the sprue. There are heaps of bits lying throughout my man-room.

I do not believe in having too many models. I would say that if you have more models than you can play in a reasonable timed turn, then you are short on players. Whether its in an Apocalypse game, and you need subordinate commanders to help you activate your force. Or you just need more opponents to fight with your 2nd, 3rd, ect Armies. Both are the same thing to me.

Cowards will be shot! Survivors will be shot again!

When I realized I'm running out of space to put cases of models, and my work area is covered in assembled models.

But really, if I've gotten to the point where I've realized I have too many models yet, it'll have been when I got my first Exorcist, built it, then went, "What next?" and have been drawing a major blank for the past couple of years.

Also, when I realized that I have enough models to play both sides of a decent-size Apocalypse game. By myself.

I had three or four large plastic garbage bags full of sprues. Nothing but sprues.

Eventually I went through them and threw out all the ones that weren't for Space Marines or Imperial Guard. Now I have two large plastic garbage bags of sprues.

I also used to keep all the boxes and blisters themselves, and kept them in stacks. My stack of boxes, unfolded and pressed flat, was about a foot thick. My stack of blister pack fronts was about half that.

When you can't fit them all on a 6x4 table is a good indicator that you might want to stop. When you can't fit them all in your house, you're beyond the point where you CAN stop

I'm a hopeless case
