Money and time wise, I just can't go to Tennessee for gaming, but I love the ATC/ETC idea. If this, or something like it, was run closer to home I'd surely make an effort to go. Good luck with this seeming awesome event!

Couple questions about the FAQ.
p.5 Flying Models Claiming Objectives wrote:Flying Models Claiming Objectives : As per the MRB you measure from the hull of the model. The objectives are the height they physically are. You might need to measure vertically and horizontally to determine the distance from the objective to a model. This is no different than a non-vehicle model measuring from their base to a flyers hull to determine range when shooting. This includes Skimmers, Land Speeders, and other units on flight bases.
The reference to "hull" is throwing me off here - does this ruling apply solely to vehicles, or are you requiring measurement to the "body" of things like the Hive Crone?
p. 6, Look Out, Sir! wrote:Models that have been targeted by focus fire may not Look Out, Sir to models in the same unit otherwise unable to be effected by focus fire.
Given that "Look Out, Sir!" can be used to pass wounds to models that are completely out of line of sight, I'm curious about this ruling. Can you share the reasoning? (I don't object in the slightest, but it's the first time I've ever seen it played this way.)
p. 10, Fortifications wrote:Fortifications purchased by a player are considered neutral terrain.
Just to be clear, given the "No Stronghold Assault" ruling earlier, this means that a) if you purchase a Bastion but don't deploy anyone in it, then the heavy bolters will not autofire; and b) the quad gun must have a model touching it to fire at all (i.e., it's a gun emplacement, not an emplaced weapon), right?
p. 10, "Skyshield Landing Pad wrote:Unit coherency is maintained like Ruins....When dealing with barrages treat the Landing Pad as a Ruin.
Actual question: can MCs, cavalry, vehicles, etc., which are not ordinarily allowed to climb up "levels" in ruins, make it to the top of the Landing Pad? (Some events treat the Pad as a 1-level ruin in all respects, which is tricky.)

Yeah this seems like a major rule change. Once again ATC taking some off the wall stances on some pretty easy and standard tournament rulings.
At least they changed the scoring flyer ruling from last year... last year helldrakes could score over a 18" footprint almost... only measured horizontally rather then actual distance from the objectives.
Also weird that they make it so a unit can only deny one objective at a time... its clear in the rules you can only claim one, but denial is something different. And with the amount of objectives in ATC missions that gets really tough.

So, if the rumors prove correct and we see a 7th ed. 40k release before the end of May, which ruleset would we be using for the ATC?

Also, to clarify: model data slates are allowed (Bel'akor), but unit data slates (living artillery) are not? That's rather odd to have one not the other.

OK Janthkin
Question 1 - Montrous Creatures/Flying Creatures have different rules as clearly defined in the MRB. This only applies to vehicles.
Question #2 - We are not just making stuff up here. THis ruling comes from several legitimate situations.
Basically the LOS is a form of allocation and Focus Fire says you can't allocate to models not in the cover save group being Focus Fired on.
There's no hint anywhere that LOS! overrules FF.
If an IC is left out of cover with some other models (or by themselves) and I gave up the ability to kill other models by FF then I'm already receiving the potential punishment of overkilling.
LOS! doesn't seem to negate FF, just because I deployed or moved poorly.
I would also expect an "always" somewhere in the LOS! rules that doesn't exist.
Another reason this is even being discussed is the Rune Priest protection via White Scars. Players are looking for a way to shut down psychic powers and keep their Priest alive. So they look for a rule that can be 'gamed' to get this result. When really player skill should have been their answer.
Question #3 - Correct. Stronghold Assualt RUles are not allowed.

If it hits when it is supposed to, that will be approx 7 weeks before the event. We will see if it is a "Revision" or a New Ruleset altogether.

Sorry for the mini Thread-Necro. Whats the plan for the ATC tournament as it stands? I've heard there is an email going around on whether the 6th or 7th edition rules will be used. If 7th can be used, what should we expect in terms of Detachment limits? Similar to the Throne of Skulls that GW runs?

ATC 2014 WILL USE WH 40k 7th Edition!
***
PLEASE READ THIS EMAIL ENTIRELY - THERE ARE SOME VERY IMPORTANT CHANGES AND DETAILS HERE!
As all of you are well aware, we are faced with a major decision this year on the Warhammer 40,000 side of the ATC. We have and will continue to try our best to give the players what they want at the ATC.
After a 32-3 vote in favor of 7th, (with several teams stating they would not attend if it remained 6th) WH 40K ATC 2014 will be playing 7th edition this year.
Please believe me when I say that we are excited to move ahead with 7th, but that as TO's we would have rather seen a new edition released in August! (hehehe). Regardless, please know that we are putting forth all of our best efforts and we are working with other major event TO's to bring together FAQ's Erratas's, etc as fast and fair as possible!
A quick overview of what we have already implemented to help with the transition:
1 - Paint Requirements have been adjusted (NOT eliminated, please see below) in order to help out with any army list changes that this edition change may bring about in hopes to take a little stress off of you.
2 - We are working with other event organizers and a staff of 8 players to address any FAQ issues.
3 - We have secured a dedicated group of judges for this years event that will all have met together and prepared beforehand and will be available the entire weekend.
4 - The Updated Mission is being uploaded right now with mostly just some re-wording and a couple of changes to Mission Setup. We have left it as close to the previous one as possible, so that it will not be a huge change in this area for all your practicing that you have done.
Thank you all!
â–ª Shane and Chris
SO to answer some questions and address a few concerns that have already been voiced:
FAQ
A - We will have a first draft FAQ to you by Tuesday May 2nd. We have a fully dedicated Judge staff of 8 people who are already working on this.
B - The GW FAQs located at http://www.blacklibrary.com/faqs-and-errata.html will be used.
ORGANIZATION CHANGES
A - No Unbound Armies and no Formations will be allowed.
B - Battle forged Armies MUST be used, with a mandatory, maximum, ONE Combined Arms Detachment that will NOT use Lords of War and a Maximum ONE Allied Detachment that is optional.
C - Tactical Objectives will NOT be used.
D - Legal Fortifications list will be decided and announced later today. The rules from Stronghold Assault will be used for any that we decide to allow.
E - NO terrain data slates.
MISSION CHANGES
A - Turns will be extended to 2.5 hours
B - The revised mission will be posted on the website and sent via email later today. It is not a big change and has actually simplified it more.
OTHER CHANGES
A - In an attempt to help ease the pains of last-minute army list changes, but to ensure that the hard work already put into building and painting your army, the Painting Requirements will be changed for 2014 Only, to state - "Up to ONE unit and ONE Character Model in your army may be unpainted, but models MUST still be WYSIWYG and mounted on the appropriate bases.
B - If needed there will be an extension to the due date of army lists.
What we need from you:
1 - Concerns and questions that have arisen from your 7th ed games. (Please no "xyz" said on the internet that this is broken!). I am meaning, "Hey we played a game and this came up" issues.
SEND TO SHANE@DICEHEAD.COM, NOT on Facebook!
REGISTRATION IS STILL OPEN
Space is limited and we are filling up pretty fast now, so don't delay!

Great tournament! All my games were enjoyable. Many of the usual names were there, and it was a good celebration of our addiction. I believe Quality Control got 1st, Roll to Wound 2nd, and our team Name Pending (Murfreesboro TN) netted third.

Great times to everyone I played. Truly cool event.
Seemed there were some folks that had some list design issues that were penalized. Not sure how that happens when we submitted lists early. Didn't they check lists? If they didn't why submit army lists in advance??? Perhaps I'm missing something. What do I know?
Also was disappointed that the faq said summoned deamons had to be actual gw models, yet to find some folks were allowed to use non gw models...

I think the intent with the requirement for summoned GW models was to prevent people from green casting a bunch of models to get the new Daemon goodness in time.
There was only one player that I'm aware of that asked about that and the opponent's models were perfectly fine, third party models. They were the same size and base as the GW models.
It wasn't an issue. I think the FAQ could be clarified in the future and it's an easy fix to add.

I had an amazing time as always and our team Name Pending took 3rd this year! Also kind of stoked to get 7th overall! I love that fact that I didint have to play any two lists that where similar at all, unlike last year where I had to play x2 venom spam list and then 2 drop pod lists.
And Knights....Knights everywhere!
