Is chain of the gorgon in a supplement codex?

I believe it's in the Clan Raukaan supplement. I don't know what it does.
Don't you love when people are like "RUN THIS!" and then bring up things without enough rules background on it that you'd have no idea what he's talking about?

The Gorgon's Chain is cheaper than the Shield Eternal and works as such...
If the model has suffered...
0 wounds he gets 3++, +1 to FnP (so 5+) and EW
1 wound he gets 3++ and EW
2 wounds he gets 3++
3 wounds he gets 4++
4 wounds and he's dead!
The problem with this loadout is that while he's a beast in CC, he's also way over 200 points, which disqualifies him from this debate! You could always give it to a Captain, but then you're losing out on the extra wound which dilutes the usefulness of It Will Not Die.

The captain would be fine, you have the improved FNP still, you just have one less wound tom play with.
I don't think you will be up against many opponents with over 3 wounds, you just need to survive the storm and lay the damage when you can.

The D lord's mss go off over 50% of the matchups against ld10, and gets better from there. He has 2+ armor and stands back up when he is killed 50% of the time. His warscythe is s7 AP1, he is T6, and he has a 12" move. I have played necrons competitively for a long time, and the d lord is far better than most people think.
That being said, tervigon > all here.

How about an Archon?
Agoniser, Husk Blade, Soulgem, Shadow field, Drugs, Phantasm Grenade Launcher and Ghost plate for exactly 200
Has a 4+ to wound at ap 3 or instant death str 3 ap2, doubles strength after first kill, has a 2++ a 4+ and a 6++, random boost from drugs.

What is the Archon's toughness? I'm assuming Space Elf 3, but I don't have the 'dex. Without Eternal Warrior, he would just get insta-gibbed by most of the choices discussed so far as most will be putting out S6 or higher attacks.

Having rolled 1s too many times, I don't think 1 2++ is going to save him. I'm sure everybody else will be easily packing S6 or higher weapons.

I was a little bored so I ran some numbers assuming the Clan Raukaan Captain on a Bike w/the relic chain thing gets slammed by the Khorne Lord...
So how does he stand up to 13 WS6 S7 AP2 hits?
The Khorne Lord kills him outright 22.7% of the time. 37.4% of the time he has all 3 wounds remaining at end of round. 25.5% of the time he has 2 wounds remaining. 14.4% of the time he has 1 wound remaining. So, a 77.3% survival rate. That's not bad. I'm not counting the Hammer of Wrath hit or the 2 S4 AP- hits because I'm being lazy, but I am assuming a maxed out 13 attacks. On average, you'd roll 11 hits and the extra 3 would happen, but at lower strength.
The math gets pretty complex. It suffices to say that if I bothered doing the math properly, he would actually average higher than a 77.3% survival rate since Khorne Lord would be less likely to wound with the 3 lower strength hits factored in.

I'm participating in a character battle event at my local GW at the start of February.
The rules are as such...
200 Points max to pick a single model HQ. No named characters, no flyers, no vehicles.
The game will be a double elimination tournament played on a 2'x2' board with no terrain. Each model starts in an opposing corner with the winner of a dice off choosing to go first or second.
I'm debating on what to bring.
Here are my options so far. Please critique and share what you would bring!!!
Option #1 - Iron Hands Chapter Master w/Artificer Armour, Bike, Storm Shield and Power Axe
2+/3++ with FnP 6+ and It Will No Die 5+... Orbital Bombardment, Very Mobile with the Bike, T5 prevents most instant death issues. The goal is to fire off the OB, then get in close and go to town with the axe.
Option #2 - Tau Crisis Commander w/Plasma Rifle X2, Shield Generator, Stimulant Injector, Iridium Battlesuit, Onager Guantlet, Puretide Engram Neurochip
2+/4++, Jump Shoot Jump, S6 AP2 weaponry, FnP 5+, S10 AP1 close combat attacks. The goal is to dance around and fire tons of plasma weaponry while avoiding combat and staying alive.
Option #3 - Necron Overlord w/Sempiternal Weave, Phase Shifter, Phylactery, Mindshackle Scarabs, Tesseract Labyrinth and Staff of Light.
2+/3++, If killed can come back with d3 wounds. The goal is to get in close as quick as possible and hope the Scarabs and Tesseract do their things.
What else would you pick? Do these look good?
You left out one very important and stupid rule (for us not for the store). You have to buy the model you want to use. I was looking at either the Tervigon or a Necron Overlord - both of which I already own! An overlord is only around $20 while the tervigon is close to $60 plus you'd have to buy the guants as well (even if you already owned a kabillion). That's pretty much why I'm not participating - I go to that store from time to time, as well.

I'd say run a Hive Tyrant with maybe Regeneration and roll your two powers on Biomancy, and pray for Endurance or Iron Arm. 195pts.
That is, going off the 5th Ed codex as the 6th Ed hasn't yet dropped. Then again, I've heard the Tyrant is supposed to be getting cheaper to boot so Toxin Sacs might be an option too.

Fun event.
It's what I would take, for fun. I wish Archons could still be on jetbikes like the good ole days.
An Autarch with the mantle on a jetbike would be a strong contender too.
Avatar would be awesome.

You can buy pretty much anything. You don't have to buy the specific model. Like, if you want to play the Tervigon and you buy something else 'Nid you're good to go. Also, if you want to just show up and play, there will be a ton of people doing this. You just wouldn't be in the official bracket and wouldn't be eligible for a prize.

That's the thing. Running Mindshackle Scarabs just makes you TFG for this type of event. You really think running the most obnoxiously overpowered piece of wargear in a 1v1 game mode is "cool?" Or running the ONE HQ choice in the game that actually brings more models to the table? Come on, man. :\
If I end up running a similar event in my corner of the world, we'd probably outright ban Monstrous Creature and MSS usage just to keep it fair in the spirit of competition. Means I couldn't run my Daemon Prince of Tzeentch with whatever else I could fit on him for 40 points, nor the Avatar of Khaine, but oh well. Sometimes having fun making a cool unique kit-bashed character is more important than winning, especially in a goof game mode.

Yeah, we're gonna end up running this again every so often. I'm sure the rules will need to change. We might end up banning any effect that would bring additional models onto the table. That way, you could choose to bring the Tervigon, but not be able to spawn additional 'gants.
The MSS will be a hit or miss sort of thing. It's not exactly an "I win" button as it's only 50% effective, but it is pretty darn solid. The again, with no invuln, the D-lord would die a horrible death before getting into combat with anything that can pump out AP2 weaponry (Crisis Commander for example).

Yeah, that's why I wouldn't take the D-Lord. No invuln. But you can take a overlord with WS/MSS/SW/Phase Shifter/Tesseract Labyrinth for 195pts. Now that would be funny. You have your opponent beat himself down to 2 or three wounds and then use the labyrinth on him and make him disappear. Now who's TFG? Ha! So you're saying I can be official without buying another overlord? I have so many darn overlords...between 5 barges and two finecast overlords I really don't think I need another...

50% of the time you just outright win because the opponent will kill himself? That's kind of dumb. MSS are in my top OP things in all of Warhammer list because it punishes people exponentially for making a really cool dude. I mean, having 200 points dumped into one HQ in a normal game anyway is pretty bad simply because any one guy is too easy to take out, so that should be punishment enough, but then to make him outright kill himself? I dunno. It's anti-fun. There is no risk-reward for bringing it, like, ever.

Necron99 - So long as you purchase something of roughly equivalent value (no pot of paint!) for your armies (and who doesn't need more models!), I'll make sure Scottie lets you play in the official tournament. If he gives you any crap, tell him Kris said so and that he can call me. This whole Gladiator event was actually my idea initially and I think I'm going to end up running it. That's partly why I wanted to ask the community for advice... to make sure there were no ridiculously broken ideas.
I don't have pictures right now, but first, second and third place will get a life-size purity seal I sculpted, cast and painted.
TBH, I'd really like to see how the Tervigon works.
