Seriiously? what is the reason behind the ridiculous forge world prices? My items come warped, filmy with a substance that requires cleaning and half the model is excess resin.
We do not discuss recasting at Dakka - MT11

I suppose because you'll roughly know what you'll get with FW stuff and you can get replacements reliably if the quality is shoddy.

You do know that Forgeworld have a customer service team? I think it's fairly well known that FW products need a fair bit of modelling skill. I don't personally agree with the amount of work the kits take considering the price, but that's me.
If you want to go down the illegal and very much frowned upon route that you talk about then go for it. When your models don't arrive, or arrive horribly damaged you may as well have burned your money because you certainly won't get replacements from Chinese/Russian recasters.

for the record. I have never purchased a Chinese made knock off of W40K. I don't trust Chi-Com stuff but I just don't see Chinese made knock off's being any worse then the crap quality I just received from FW

Even better, take pictures and show us what the problems are. There are a lot of people on this site that own a fair amount of FW, it might be good to get their opinion.

For the same reason that you don't walk into your local GW store and steal a box off the shelf.

Ya if you are having problems they will probably just send you a new kit.
With GW products they will send you a new kit (personal experience for me has been really positive)
I have never purchased anything from forgeworld before but have been really tempted to buy a Tau XV9 suit from them. At current exchange rates it is about $55.75 canadian and the GW XV9 commander finecast is $49 so I think it isn't super expensive (depending what you buy) and if its messed up they have great customer services.

Slightly off topic, but related to chiefbigredman's post. The XV-9 with Burst Cannons is one of the few FW kits I own and I love it. It was such a dream to put together after experiencing the drudgery of the regular crisis suit from GW.

Just water and a soft toothbrush usually get most of the slime/excess resin off.
Unless it's an actual "tab" for the release, which requires careful sawing to remove it. Don't use clippers as they can exert a lot of pressure which might break part of the model.

i don't doubt they have good customer service, i mean…its the least they could do for chinese quality stuff that I bet they make buku bucks off of but when it takes me 2-3 weeks to receive it and then I have to send it back because it's warped. I can't deal with it. I'm just saying that for the $$$ i'm spending I should get something that
a) fits together properly
b) isn't warped
c) doesn't require some form of cleaning because the primer you use flakes off.

No you don't. Spend a few minutes and fix the warped parts, it's incredibly easy. All you have to do is dip it in boiling water until the part softens, then bend it back into shape. You probably could have fixed your models in the time you've spent writing a rant thread about them.
c) doesn't require some form of cleaning because the primer you use flakes off.
All you have to do is wash the parts with soap and water. This is a trivial amount of effort.

Clean the resin in warp soapy water with a small scrubbing brush thoroughly. I use dish washing liquid. I prefer a scrubbing brush to a toothbrush. The parts are easier to clean if you leave then attached to their excess resin. And always be sure to rinse thoroughly in clean warm water after you have scrubbed. Never had a problem doing it this way.

I still think it's a fair point that you shouldn't have to do that considering the prices paid. I'm not going to argue it, but to sweep the complaints aside as trivial is a bit much imho.

Until you buy shadow spectres. They are evil to do. Vehicles however require little effort, then you realise parts are too big and small for the areas they are meant to fit in, so then you have to shave and cut heaps of peices... Not the kind of product id pay heaps for only to have to put in heaps of beyond normal work for models. At least recasters have the decency to wash the products and clean not include huge amounts of excess resin on their kits. They also check to make sure parts arent warped before you get them.
When i used to sell boats before my current job status i could never sell a boat that wasnt in prestine condition. It had to be cleaned, tested (i.e all parts working and fitting properly), tuned up and all the ugly peices that came on it during its factory time (labels, excess plastic and so on) all ahd to cleaned off. Why? Because its a premium product that people pay a lot of money for. I expect forge world to do the same. if its so easy they can dam well do it.
Unprofessional.

Well if you are so unhappy with the stuff you have bought from them just stop buying from them its that easy. Of course they make tons of money they are a business also the 2-3 weeks to receive it has nothing to do with Forgeworld that's whatever postage company is shipping it.
I don't expect everything to be perfect but if you are so unsatisfied then just don't buy it noone is forcing you to buy their stuff

I hate to point it out, but we have had this thread many times already.
In fact, there is even a recaster thread (about chinese casters) on page 2.
I have a ton of FW stuff....are they the best production wise, no, not by a long shot. In fact, I have seen many other resin mini manufacturers (puppets war, anvil, etc.) held to higher standards.
Here is what I had to say about genuine (yes, I know my stuff is genuine, I ordered it myself) FW and recast stuff....
I see a very large amount of resin models, both genuine FW and recast.
Regarding the genuine FW stuff, I do the bulk ordering (i.e. lets get free shipping) for my group on a regular basis (my credit card does not take a hit for foreign transactions, and I like the bonus points).
Also, I do a lot of work with resin and casting as one of my associates is into professional prop fabrication and we also do our own bases and other custom (non 40k) models.
A few things (this is real FW, ordered directly from FW).
* if you get free shipping, FW orders usually do arrive in about a week. This is not a fluke, I regularly get orders this fast.
* if you do not get free shipping they on average can take longer.
* It is not uncommon for FW models to be warped, or have signifigant mold lines where they mold shifted during casting (it was moved or set poorly during the casting process).
* many of their older molds need to be replaced as they have not aged well (the barracuda mold is in bad shape).
* in the last 28 monthe, they have got much better regarding missing parts.
* they do not always pack large models well - there have been a lot with minor damage from transit.
* the majority of time their resin is good quality.
Again, I see a LOT of fw models, and as I order them for many people and I inspect all the models.
Regarding recaster models, as I do a lot of resin work, and am know for my conversions (and pinning etc.) a lot of friends show me their models, or ask for help with them.
Also a previous roommate of mine used to order recasts from russia, and I have personally seen and inspected several test models from various casters in China.
* The shipping is usually much slower.
* The Russian recasters do ok on packaging.
* Most of the Chinese recasters package their models very well (inspected a Chinese hierophant last week).
* Most of the Russian recasts I have seen use good quality resin.
* Some of the Chinese recasts I have seen use good quality resin, some use more brittle quality resin.
* I have seen a few missing parts from re-casters, but its rare - some will offer refunds.
* Detail wise most of the Russian recasts I have personally seen are good to very good.
* Detail wise most of the Chinese recasts I have personally seen are very good to excellent.
Now, here is the shocking one...
Overall, I can say the quality control on casting form the Chinese casters has met or exceeded the quality control from Forgeworld.
How can this be? Some people say "thats not possible for a recast to be better".
I am not talking about the quality of the detail in the resin, for this is true - the cast cannot be 100% as good as the original, but I am not talking about the quality of the detail.
I am talking about the quality of the casting overall - less warped parts, less mold lines etc. Again, I have experience in casting myself, and in professional parts fabrication so I know what to look for, or rather, I can usually tell what went wrong with a cast that is not really good.
Overall, I would still recommend forgeworld over re-casters - I feel the customer service is better and its a good idea to support the company making new designs.
Now, I still won't buy some models from them (or recasters for that matter) as I feel they are just too expensive for what you get, and I would rather give consumer feedback with a lack of sales dollars.
(its not that I can't afford them, its that I don't think they are worth the price they charge - now, the second I can get an orca as a plastic kit for about $100...I will have one).

To the OP: I buy FW products myself and enjoy the amount of work that goes into building them. There's been nothing flimsy about any of the FW stuff I have bought, I have needed saws, files, sculpting tools, and sometimes even a hammer to get them to come out correctly.
That's what you get from them, a challenge.
In regards to purchasing from the Chinese... wow. If enough people do that, FW is just going to cost more. It's not a winning solution.

I've had the same experience and yet every other year or so I make the same mistake and try again. Worse yet, I was totally unable to get any customer service from them via email - they kept insisting I call (internationally) and refused to help despite my very clear pictures.
The Chinese and Russian knockoff's seem at least to be re-cast from decent first-castings...
