"I would never have believed that the 3D printing would have taken this long to complete."

Really?

So the whole "these things are basically ready to go" schtick that this project was initially sold on was not only wildly inaccurate but criminally under researched too?

My gut says it would've been quicker but something tells me that there's a bunch of emails and phone calls back along the line somewhere from various sources that went unanswered for days or weeks (if at all) which slowed things down a lot.

I don't think they will be unless people sell their pledge rewards. On a further note, nobody save the guys he sent stuff off to for painting, has had anything yet.

I am kind of glad that I skipped this one now.

My reason, at the time, was that I hated those danged saddles. (And I do indeed still hate those danged saddles.)

Now it looks like those danged saddles saved me from making the mistake of pledging....

The Auld Grump - did I mention that I really don't much like those danged saddles?

While I am glad I skipped this as well, hearing that these may not make it to retail makes me sad. There are a few of them that I would love.

But at this point, only at retail.

Hurray...

The samples are back and they look phenomenal. Once the model is captured in resin it becomes so much more durable, and dry fitting the model is a dream.

The resin is quite rigid, without being brittle. It is a neutral grey tone to better see details on the unpainted model, and to suit light priming with either black or white.

There was a few developments that occurred this week that delayed production for a very short time. I am glad to share that the models are now going to be developed and ready for shipping.

The next update I will have pics of the first run of cast models, as well as discussion who gets their models first, and how shipping will be arranged.

On a personal note... a lot of this business stuff is counter-intuitive and represents a pretty huge learning curve. I have learned so much during this process. I am really looking forward to having you enjoying your models and then sharing my experiences thru this entire journey. It is pretty crazy. I am glad you are here with me.

Hope the treewoman is one of the first to get cast! I feel a bit bad having transferred my pledge to Wehrkind and then having this huge delay... but hopefully that final model will be worth it!

I'd make a joke about how the tree woman gave me wood, but at this point blue balls seems more appropriate, and I just can't figure out how to make that work.

Still, it will be nice to have her on the table. Or really the shelf until I remember what army idea she was even for. Was it for the centaur heavy nature army?

I think so! But tree creatures are usable for all sorts of things. I really like that alternate head!

Plus, it comes with a jackolope it seems

Going over previous updates, I think this guy has out-artisted Raging Heroes. While they took a long time to deliver, at least they stayed on course and didn't look into yoga and the like.

Maybe their delicate artistic sensibilities have wilted under the harsh glare of snark and they need to go find themselves. Suggest they team up with Jeremy "Hippy" Glen so they can both rediscover their special snowflake status and wax lyrical over the unwashed plebs and "how dare they laugh at us and make jokes". Do they not know the difficulties faced with being artists of this calibre?".

Perhaps we can even reanimate that arrogant Rackham douche to put it all into perspective by telling us that conceptual miniatures, that we only see the 3d renders for and hear from the artistes how beautiful they are going to be, are the best miniatures ever, not only saving us all the time of painting and assembling as Rackham did by switching to prepainted plastic, but saving us the effort of lifting, holding or indeed owning them!!

Sacrebleu! Behold your emperor's new threads!

Key points from the latest update:

* Casting has begun

* Jeremy had a breakdown

* It will be four months until shipping begins.

So, if Jeremy says it will be four months, we should expect at least double that time.

Update #82

Dec 2 2015
Resin casts look great! We have come a long way and there is still a road ahead.

The casting is underway. The samples look great and you are going to be thrilled with the material and cast quality. The production mother molds are being constructed and an upgrade to the existing facility is underway.

A lot has been happening over the last while. Ever since I got back from England it has been intense. A lot has been going on, with things ranging from old arrangements being broken to new arrangements being made. I have struggled with my mental health, and with keeping people happy behind the scenes. This whole process has been a roller coaster, but this last month has been a whirlwind.

I will give you some written details here and will be publishing a video soon with some of this information as well.

Upon coming back from England I had not gotten the information I needed from the company I visited. They weren't able to provide me with the assurances I needed, now more than ever. I basically suffered a breakdown and it was a very low point. A lot of time and money and distance traveled had been spent on this contact.

I still had another factory to fall back on, but had decided fairly early on to not source my castings overseas to China. I could not guarantee the quality of an overseas cast, plus my product would be at a high risk for recasting. Even the resin could have fillers such as paper and PVC.

The facility I got my test casts from however made some perfect casts. They are beautiful, with pure resin, and almost no trace of mold line or excess flashing. The people in charge of that facility were great to work with. I decided to contact them and ask if we could upgrade the facility and start producing the Creature Caster Kickstarter miniatures at the same high quality, and they agreed to meet up and discuss an arrangement.

I went and visited the team and we agreed upon a cost and a timeline. They have since been making the mother molds and upgrading the facility in preparation for the production casts. I spent a lot of time there, making sure everything was ready to go. It was really nice to be in the space and in control.

I have spent a lot of time in this campaign waiting on other companies whom I had given control. They radically lengthened production times, especially in the case of getting the 3D prints, and had me waiting far too long for basic information. It feels good to have control back in my hands. Being at the casting facility gives me the feeling that I can be in direct contact and have a far greater capacity for control.

I have also been in consult with business and production experts. They have assured me that things happen like this in business all the time. People in business will often prioritize your project based on profit, and I was in the mix with some other really big companies who were for a long time getting priority over me.

Plus, I was told by more than a few experts, that I am an artist... not a business person. My instinct to trust people and to wait for people to come around is a rather large weakness in the business world, and I have had to come to terms with this. I am glad I have their consult to make it through, and I am grateful for their input (thank you!)

So the minis are being made, and this will still take some time. The first boxes will be ready for ship starting in about four months time. This is still a while away, so I am asking for your continued patience and support. The great news is that the minis look excellent. The prints are superb and the cast quality is top notch.

As a result of the stress I have been compounding over the past year, it has been quite a strain on my mental health. Now that casting is underway I hope that the pressure will diminish a little. This has been a long and difficult process and as always I have to thank you for your continued patience and support with me from the beginning. What keeps me going is the thought of your unboxing reviews, and most importantly, the pics of your minis once you have them painted up.

Next update will be the video where I talk about the last year in detail. It will be a state of the campaign address but on a more personal note. The update after that I will be reporting from the facility itself as I am headed back in a few weeks. Until then, take care, and thank you.

That is exactly right Could not have said it better myself, and I wish other campaigns took this kind of care. We are making triple sure that everything will not only deliver smoothly, but will also be a party when you open your package.

I just thought I'd requote this from nearly two years ago for the lols.

My sympathy for any mental health issues he may have suffered is somewhat tempered by the fact that they're largely self inflicted and the nagging doubt that Jeremy's "breakdown" is the equivalent to most people's "busy day at work."

So he's switching to a China caster at this point? It really does seem like there is no plan in place at all. Are dwindling funds to blame for these drastic changes this late in the process?

Will another computer/casting facility get doused in coffee? Stay tuned.

I've had to re-read that section of the update a few times and I am still unclear about whether or not the new caster is in China. Jeremy went on and on about being in control of the production process, so that led me to think that he found a place domestically to produce the models, but I may be misreading his post.

If he did go with a Chinese caster I think Jeremy's fears of recasting are legitimate and likely to happen, but at this point I just want my gak so I really don't care what becomes of his IP. If production in China gets this campaign over with, well so be it.

I fear the issues he had with his UK caster probably related to

cost (why yes we do have to replace silicon rubber mould a lot for qulity resin casts, why yes prices have gone up since you first made contact as that was 2 years ago),

and speed (you need how many casts, how fast? sorry we just cant do so much so soon, we have lots of other clients too)

hopefully the folk he's gone with will be able to do things right

(and if the minis are popular enough he'd get recasts anyway, they'd just buy an original first)
