They do look better unpainted, which seems to be something you can say of most Horus Heresy releases.

Love the Ad-mech stuff that they are doing. If GW was going to further a ad-mech line i would love it if there was a Dark ad-mech component. Fat chance of that though

If Forge World were to further an Ad-Mech line, you would see Dark Mechanicus once you get a bit further into the Horus Heresy.

It wasn't a case of "Well gents, it's the Heresy and we're the Dark Mechanicus. Start making the craziest stuff possible and add spikes to it! We go to waaaaaaaar!" overnight. It took time.

Well, they haven't made command sets for those Mks yet. Probably because the current FW HH books are only covering the very beginning of the HH so far, and the other Mks haven't yet been introduced in anything but the most prototype form. I'm sure we will start to see the later Mks more often as the books progress.

I added all the bits in the Strike Force sets & it came to £139.

Set includes:
Command - £25
4 x 5 man squads - £23 x 4 = £92
2 x 10 bolters - £11 x 2 = £22
Total if bought separately = £139 which means a £14 / 10% saving.
Haven't worked out the larger Legion Invasion sets yet, but as I want my troops to have mixed-up armour I'll be going for the MKII & MKIII sets myself.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I might get a couple of the DG torso sets which means I'll have some regular ones left. Might put these on current plastic marines (MKVII?) & stick them at the back of my squads so they don't stick out so much. Or maybe make sergeants out of them was Corvus pattern helmets, if I can find some?
Views anyone?

Absolutely pumped for the new Mechanicus releases!

There's been a fair few requests on the FB page to release separate weapons, because the mix of 3 is next to useless. They've been coy and said that a special announcement is incoming.

Actually I was asking both, I couldn't find the Heresy armour in the Horus Heresy section, silly me. Bit disappointed there aren't more bundle deals on them too. Hopefully they'll start on them soon because I like all the studs on MkV.

I think we haven't seem them as the Heresy has only just begun, bookwise. I suspect as they release more books, the earlier marks will become rarer and the later marks more popular.

I would expect more mark 5's as things progress and not so much mark 6.

Mark 5 was a stop gap armour variant and caled heresy armour because of the time in which it came about.
The bonded studs were put in to reinforce the armour because materials wee becoming scarcer and it wa getting harder to maintain the already damaged armour.
The mark 5 helm was an off shoot of the Terminator programme.

According to fluff, the mark 6's were mostly given to the Raven Guard I think, after the Istvaan 5 drop site massacre. A gift from Dorn (ref. Deliverance lost). And was named Coveus armour in recognition of the work Corax and his Raven Guard had done to help develop the suit.
These were taken from Mars as the Imperial Fists evacuated due to the civil war (ref. Mechanicum)

I believe deliverance lost makes mention of vengeance rounds as the Raven guard tech priests, have some traitor ammo and discover iy has also been engineered to purposefully crack power armour, cant remeber if the raven guard develop their own version of this.

The 'new' fluff has a lot of MKVI suits going to the Raven Guard as a rather gooftastic way of 'explaining' the name of the armor.

It is a bit of cringe-worthy background from BL.

Yes, but the Hitech sculpt is a) Based on the concept of Mechanicus (hoods, exposed wiring) b) Basically a Techpriest in Terminator armour. The Myrmidon Secutor axe is far better, while the Myrmidons are a more sophisticated, original take on the whole Mechanicus goes to war concept, while tying in with the aesthetic of the other 30k Mechanicus stuff ( Similar power generators on the Castellax and Magos Dominus). All these little details tie in to make them amazing.

I was going to buy the Hitech miniatures for my Mechanicus army but then saw the FW previews, and immediately thought feth that, the FW sculpts are 100x more beautiful.

Beauty, as ever, in the eye of the beholder.

Miniatures usually look better unpainted, because you can project your infinite fantasies onto them; Once painted, you're locked into the colour scheme of the final product.

I'm not sure what's the delay with Secutors? They were done at GD 2013 as well. Paint job? Weapons options?

Maybe the delay is just due to the Secutors being a more complicated kit- they have 4 weaponised limbs after all, rather than 2 like the Destructors.

FORGE WORLD BLOG #7

Every week in the Forge World Studio there’s something new to see. It could be a brand new character, a freshly painted unit or maybe an upgrade to one of our existing models. Earlier this week I took a walk past the desk of designer Will Hayes, who has been working on a selection of weapons.

One of the new armaments available to the Thallax.

Blake Spence, the owner of a fine Emperor’s Children Legion you may have seen in a previous blog post, has recently been designing some new Realm of Battle industrial complex tiles. Blake’s created some fantastic scenery in the past and these new tiles are really looking awesome and are packed with loads of features to fight around.

Blake’s latest board is going to make for some great battles.

Passing through Warhammer World recently, I met Wesley Vickers from Leek who had brought his renegade Imperial Guard army from the Siege of Vraks campaign to face his foes in the gaming hall. His army includes a Blight Drone and Valdor, among other great looking Forge World models.

Wesley’s renegade Imperial Guard army advance through the ruins.

If you've been playing games using your Forge World models, why not send us some photos of them in action via our Facebook page.
That’s all from me for now. Make sure you check back soon for more from the Forge World Studio.

Chris.

His rumour track record is not the best , but anyway:
necronspurs2012 on Faeit212 wrote:Forge world have completely taken over finecast for good as well as the whole of the hobbit/lotr range. Apparently gw no longer care for it as it does not make them enough profits compared to 40k and famtasy. This also makes the rumours about fw making their oen hobbit kits such as smaug more believable

I doubt that includes the Hobbit plastics though.

But fits with this observation:

a reader on Faeit 212 wrote:So I dont think I saw an official notification from GW that finecast was gone now but I received my 10 legion of the damned guys today and they are a dark grey plastic/resin much like the FW mini's.

See pix attached, I saw a warp spider in this material too today and its really good stuff, not a single fault in any of the 10 I ordered.

I actually found a few old finecast bits and these newer models are a slightly lighter shade of grey, and I can only exainplain the colour and lack of faults on it being a new material.

Though I did start second guessing myself but it seems to be harder to drill and than the older stuff.

It just feels more like the harder FW resins. The store manager seemed very interested in how good these were and I was like this does now look like finecast.

Who know either way I have never seen so many faultless models in one place ever

We've had that rumor(or the inverse rumor of "Forge World is using Finecast!!11!!) happen every three or four months since Forge World started using sprues for some models.

Like Forge World's resin, Finecast can range in coloration. I've had some dark grey and some that are almost white.

Not just rumors, indisputable fact. It's not just the finecast-style sprues, it's the finecast material: that awful fragile and bubble-filled mess where the question isn't whether you need to get the defective product replaced, it's how many times you need to get it replaced before you finally have enough not-completely-ruined pieces to make a whole model. There is no question about it, FW used, and possibly continues to use, a "we swear it's not finecast" resin that is exactly like finecast for some of their kits.

Like Forge World's resin, Finecast can range in coloration. I've had some dark grey and some that are almost white.

But it's not just the color in that post. The texture is different, and the material is much harder compared to the soft finecast garbage.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

This rumour is about the other way round: Forge World doing GW Finecast models supposedly with FW resin.

FW made me really happy when they emailed me back.. I asked them about the Dreadclaw's funky rules because I would love to use some in my CSM army if they actually had Drop Pod Assault.

"Thanks for your email. These rules are being updated at the Dreadclaw will get Drop Pod Assault".

So that's good? Right?
