Wow.

Weapons braided into beards is a Dwarf 'thing' now?

Well, at least we all know one person who is going to be really happy if the rest of the Dwarf line is as disappointing - Felix Paniagua.

I quite like the slayer, although he'd need to be removed from the statue and glued direct to the base in a 'not falling over' pose

they are, after all, meant to be drunk/stupid/over-brave/heroic etc so even the axebeard is ok

the hammerers not so much

With a few amendments (proper base, no axe beard accessories), that Slayer is coming to Mordheim with me

Is it just me or does the Slayer look too big? (As compared with the classic Slayer proportions)

Or is it a Giant-Slayer?

Very clever.

He does look tall for a dwarf, but he's fairly stretched out in mid leap, while the hair and dumb statue all adds to the perception of height.

I like the Slayer quite a lot.

Hammerers I don't really care about, they look like something PP would release.

I happen to like the hammerers...

Anyway, good to see the dwarfs finally getting some attention. All they have to do is update Brets and Wood Elves, and GW will be all caught up. Then they have to update Skaven (still in 7th ed, iirc) and that should be everything.

Didn't the beastmen already receive an 8th ed update? That's why I didn't mention them.

I think they got some new minis, but I think their books from 7th.

Including the striped pyjamas? Never understood why Slayers wear those things. And as for the barefeet, you can imagine some night goblin scattering a few nails about the battlefield. No wonder the dwarf holds are getting captured

I do like the hammerers, though. People say they're meh, but they're supposed to be solid, no nonsense dwarves. They look as though they could stand up to a cavalry charge.

I was thinking the exact same thing. They look like a Warmahordes type of unit.

I'm curious as to whether that is meant to be a "generic Slayer" or a named Slayer.

Look back at the Dark Elf release we saw a new Shadowblade model released in plastic in a very similar pose.

I like them both stick a guy infront of the slayer and all of a sudden he is flying of a statue to sink a axe in your head. I do not know much about dwarfs but they never change so.... a dwarf who looks emotionless and the same wither he is having sex or getting stabbed is the point... right?

I didn't notice it the first time around, but first when someone pointed it out. The weapon-beards look utterly stupid.

Beastmen were the last book before 8th edition.

It actually lines up with a bit from either "The Great Betrayal" or "Master of Dragons". There's mentions of Dwarfs in full Gromril Armor with huge hammers braiding their beards with weighted blades that they could use as weapons when in close where their hammers become awkward.

Doesn't make it any less goofy.

Quick question - what size bases are Dwarven infantry on?

And, is that the same base size for Empire infantry?

Thanks!

Didn't say it did.

It's a cool little bit to see that "Great Betrayal" and "Master of Dragons" have dropped hints about the aesthetic before we saw the actual army redesign though. I could take or leave the weapon braids.

They are on the same sized base for Empire infantry. The only 'infantry' not on the 20mm bases are Ogres, Chaos Warriors, and Saurus.

20mm I believe, so yes, the same as Empire infantry

They are otherwise rather good.

It's a shame and yet more of the push into cartoonish weirdness in GW's strive for an IP protect-able aesthetic. I personally think that's a big mistake as it allows other companies to produce equally good minis minus the weirdness and cash in even more.

The IP for fantasy should be nigh impossible to protect, because it's all extremely derivative of other works or indeed common imagery. If GW wants to take down the opposition it should be concentrating on producing desirable looking miniatures and destroying it's rivals on price, given it's manufacturing capacity and bulk buying ability.
