I must have missed the bit about the convention you were going. I noticed something changed because your posts became a little shorter and working up towards something (I tought it was 'just' finishing the army). But as it was building up, it really got tense, and your last post including the time is sooo tense! It's as if you were still under pressure at the moment you typed all that ^^
Anyways, I went back and found the bit were you were explaining everything, but damn.. I think it's pretty impressive you did all this in under one month
I don't know what goes on at cons, but did you get some credit for you army finally? As in a contest of some kind, or just from other players? ^^

I was painting for a tournament, so it was tense indeed! Things differ from tournament to tournament, but this one in particular the "big prize" is best overall which is weighted roughly equally between game performance, sportsmanship, and paint. So long as you're not a c##t your sportsmanship should even out, but an army that isn't fully painted can only score half points in that category for conversions and such, so you're taking a really huge hit.

I've been playing quite a number of tournaments every year since I joined the scene a couple years back. This isn't the biggest nor the best tournament in our area, but the rest are standalone events whereas this is part of a convention so it's a much more exciting atmosphere with a lot more passers by seeing all the armies. In addition to this being the first event I ever attended, and the one I go to with my close friends, so it's got a bit of a special place in my heart. I decided last year that I would be fully painted for this event come hell or high water, and I was damned if it was going to let myself fall short of that goal.

So long story short, it's both the awards and the adulation of my peers that I was gunning for. I get a lot of flack for pushing grey models around the table and taking forever to paint, so I really wanted to show up suddenly with a fully painted army.

As for whether I got some credit for my army...well...I suppose you'll just have to stay tuned

Please can you post some pics from your games on Dakka, so we can see your army in action

I didn't want to sign up to another forum to enlarge the pics.

Oh man, you have no idea. Charging through that mangler squigg was so intense. Watching him roll dice to take my wizards off. The warmachine fire. Ugh.

Game 5 is up. I'll do the aftermath report after work.

All 5 games and the wrapup report are now available.

Been really enjoying not having to grind out hobby every day after work, though it's funny how hard it is to break myself free of the nagging guilt that I should be painting.

I'll probably throw my vampires into Simple Green some time this week, then go about finishing off the vargheists and black knights while I wait for them to soak. Once everything is finished work on the terrorgheist and display board will begin in earnest.

Leaning towards something like this for the display board:
