Hows it going people, I have finally had a chance to open up one of my DV boxes. loving the modles and have some good ideas to nurgle up these dark angels.

I test painted the first chosen, liked it so i painted the rest of the squad, but now they are all pained i dont really like it so much, i think it looks way to clean cut.

btw the champion is in the dipp pot right now getting stripped down. (messed up the dead decaying skin on his head)

could you guys help me out with the paint scheme, maybe ideas i hadnt thought about..

thanks.....

I would also echo that you did a good job painting them and most would be happy to field them I think. I particularly liked the extra sculpting details you added on the weapons shoulder pads and bases.

It sounds like you just prefer a bit of a different look. I have seen some people dry brush a lighter color over nurgle to give a bit of a moldy look and I have seen people use green glazes on things to show slime/poison. I noticed your models are a bit glossy which many prefer perhaps try some more matte or a combination to create less of a shiney look? These are all just preference ideas that depending n the person they may or may not like. I also think your browns for the trim could be weathered and highlighted a bit differently to show decay they are pretty contrasting and in good shape at the moment. Not sure how much else I could suggest because you did a good job in my opinion.

Cheers Palmer

Thanks for the compliments. Im am glad my sculpting was noted as i will me using a whole lot of green stuff on my nurgle army and has really bossted my confidence.

I did give a slight dry brush or nurgling green over, but might try mixing with white to make it lighter, i dont notmally use glazes, i will look into that.

As for the shiney, do you mean on the guy running firing his bot pistol and a bit on the bases? the marine was me tesying out nurgle's rot and on the base water effects ( trying for a living nurgle forset base, but starting to think i should go pinky bases a bit like juba jubas belly in Zelda Ocarina of time) For the trim I tested out Typhus corrosion and ryza rust............ although i didnt put it over a sliver, but i am not sure if it actually makes a difference.

The paint job it not to bad, but to me they just look to clear a crisp, but i am not sure if thats to do with the amount of detail and lack of nurgle type features.

But thanks alot for your input.

I think they look pretty good although I would like to see photos with better lighting on the figures...

Yes the glare seemed the most on the one you mentioned. I don't think they are overly glossy and to be honest I often like that look. Was just suggesting things that you could try to make it look different. A heavy matte look to me tends to look old and dusty as compared to a gloss. Of course it dempends on how much you put on lol

here are the modles in better light, daylight didnt help nor did my daylight bulbs, i had to get the flash on the camera still not 100% sorry photos are not my strong point.

Sorry if that came across rude I was only trying to explain and understand what you were meaning.
I think i will try to dust them up a bit, and will bea weathering the trim and rusting the weapons alot more.

On a side note I have had an idea for my nurgle lord and sorcerer, but need some help.

I am looking for horses in proportion to the marines, i have some spare empire horses but they look like ponies with a marine on them, lol.. not really the look i want. haha.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on where to find one suitable.

Thanks for the improved pics! Still quite like them and they are inspiring. :-)

Overall light-to-dark tonal range seems pretty limited. Darks are OK, but lights could use some assistance IMO. Whites (skulls, horns) could probably use at least one more light highlight. Same with the greens and rusts. A small stipple brush could be used to add some lighter rust to the rusty parts and lighter rotten greens to the green armor.

Have not looked at my DV Chosen in a while and I can't tell what is original and what you have added (if anything).

The only suggestion I would make is to give their flesh and exposed bones a slightly lighter colour so they stand out a little more from the general scheme.

I would also echo timd regards some lighter rust (a good orange rust), and some lurid green pus for the guts/leaking out of seams.

Looks good, really like the brownish yellow orange theme on the weapons

Thanks, I will darken all the armour trimgive it some heavy rust, as for the slime puss from the joints, I tried that with they guy running but didn't come out so well. Then dust the armour in a almost white nurgle green.

But that's for another day.

Wanted to get up my dark angel terminators, lol. It's still WIP loads of green stuff to do but was hoping for some feed back and idea on what I could add.

Sorry, last time I post from my phone, it posted all 5 pics as the same pic

Mounted Templars!! Awesome!! They really do make you think crusades!! How many are you planning to do? They look a perfect size, how easy would you say it would be to remove all the straps and sadle? I want to have it bareback, am planning to have my alt lord and sorcerer tone riding death and pestilence (or I think it's also referred to as conquer) 2 of the four horse of the apocalypse.

i only have 5 now, and my templars army isnt getting anything extra as i need to paint so much of it. but at some point in the future I do plan on doing a 1500pt cavalry squad. this is what the horse body looks like without anything on it, should be a fairly simple file job to remove the saddle.

I think there are some more chaos mounts in the GW warriors of chaos range with cool reared up poses for characters, and I think theres an actual nurgle one too thats a bit rotty and should be the right size, and then for death as your GS skills look pretty good, I would suggest using a tomb kings skeleton horse and sculpting a big shroudy cloth over it, as I think it would be too small looking on its own, but you could beef it up a bit with some GS

Yeah, I had looked at them, but was unsure one the size ratio, think I might have to find someone with the nurgle mount or pop down to my gw store to see if I can get a look see. Thinking about it if the horses of apocalypse were manipulated by chaos, they would have styled it like any other. Pestilence is easy but death is harder, I think the skeletal look is over used, but skeletal represents death universally, The ton kings skeleton horse is a good idea, I do like it, however I had a different idea for death. I found a pic that I really want it to look like, it won't be black though as the white horse is death and the pale horse is pestilence.

There were some great undead/rotted horses from the L5R Clan Wars game, but I can't find mine to take pics and they would probably be pretty hard to find anyway.

Hey, just giving an update on how the conversions are going. They are no where near being finished yet, but thought i would post the progress.

Havent been able to do much with the terminators but I have started work on my plague marines.

I found some awsome conversions done on them to have sludge barrel back packs, and as i dont have any spare chaos backpack and the conversions are great, i had to pinch the idea.

Im not to happy with 2 of the terminators,, see if you can guess which 2.

Let me know what you think and any ideas on how to make them even better..

Thanks

Finally back on, so busy!!!! Anyways I broke out my nurgle again and now my test termy is almost ready, just need to add the wearthering, but opening my paint pot it had all dried up, I guess I didn't close it properly. Anyways check him out, just imagine chipped and a more rusted effect on the brown.
