This is not a news thread, this is for discussion, what do you think about GW releasing ANOTHER digital codex (legion of the damned.) for a new army, and still ignoring the orks/space wolves/ dark eldar/ whatever other armies have no codex?

Well, as it is a digital exclusive, handled by the digital team, which isn't the same team responsible for the main books, and is essentially likely to be a cut/paste with a few bits added, it isn't really relevant to other books release.

I did the same, pretty much the same, but I wonder if anyone is planning on buy it now?

I run LotD with my salamanders army, so I may consider it once I hear more about the new rules on offer.

I think it's a pretty cool idea in itself. LotD are an interesting part of the fluff, and it's nice to see them getting some more focus.Personally, I think that other Imperial armies being able to utilise them will also be a positive thing, opening up more tactical options and such.

Also, I think it's important to keep in mind that it's not really on the same level as the regular codexes. What it appears to be is a codex like the Inquisition codex, in that its intended more as an allied force rather than a standalone army (though it can also be run that way too).

I hope it's good. The legion of the damned is the only loyalist SMs that I like and if the mini-dex is any good I may start a new army.

I've always liked the idea of the legion of the damned but have never found a way to incorporate them. Other than the obvious cash grab issues I think of this as a positive thing for the game

Well, I liked the Space Wolves 13th Company which got a mini-codex prior to the eye-of-terror campaign.

I think it would be worth to bring them back.

I am legitimately curious why they haven't released a Black Templars supplement yet. They did one for Imperial Fist (which i didn't know anyone played actual Imperial Fist. I thought everyone who likes those tactics plays Crimson Fist instead) and Iron Hands, but not one for the chapter who'd longest been associated as it's on independent entity?

I don't know if we're allowed links here for non dakka/GW site, but there is a tutorial *somewhere* for converting and painting your standard tac marines as LoTD. I personally can't paint the flames on so I've made my own take on a LoTD that are ghosts of my chapter of marines. (That's not unfluffy, right?)

EDIT: I saw the page again (it was linked in another thread) It seems that it has rules for taking as an allied detachment, but it doesn't necessarily state it has to be.
Also, as another note, I didn't see anything about it being as a hardback, but it may have been on another page. I'll check that tomorrow.

I was really hoping they would release new sculpts similar to the artwork with flames that actually project out of the model rather than being slightly raised from it. Oh well still happy that LotD are being expanded on. I would rather play them or deathwatch than any chapter of marines.

I'll look for the site it was on. I am 99.9% sure it is perfectly safe for work.

I've never seen anything like that on it while I've been there, and I know it's not recasts.

I'll look for the site it was on. I am 99.9% sure it is perfectly safe for work.

I've never seen anything like that on it while I've been there, and I know it's not recasts.

Then post away, I wonder if I can use some of those flames for noise marines.

I'd probably care more, but SM has two supplements, one codex expansion for LOTD, one inquisition, and now knights, out while chaos is still stuck with Black Legion.

While it is indeed spiteful to say this, I'd rather have a xenos update then SM getting anything more right now

You should be pleased to know that the imperial knights as of right now can be allied with anyone and everyone. Even when this changes I fully expect them to be available to CSM as renegades are mentioned in the writeup.

Also black legion had some awesome stuff in it. Nobody bothered to read the altar of war missions though and so no one knows that if you bring a black legion detachment you can roll off with your opponent to play one of the BL altar of war mission (which are awesome). It also has the single coolest wargear in the game (last memory) and allows mo'oblits! Get 5 today! (sorry got carried away, just get 2...yep, 2 will let you fully realize it's awesome)

cool, i will have to get one to run beside my wraithknight, might even model them so they brofist if 2k points game throw in a riptide for modeled for double brofist with legion of the damned allies

Just be aware that 1) they take up an allies slot so currently you would need to dataslate to run wraithknight+riptide+imperial knight which will be some serious points totals and 2) the rules have a lot of room to change when the dex is published. The WD rules are very vague as it doesn't even mention who they can ally with just that they can be taken 1-3 as allies. Them being scoring also doesn't come from the WD but from the facebook page (which is a flip of the dice whether they are right).

The current rumors list Chaos as no go for Knights.

I read the altar of war missions, but the thing that annoys me is the markup with the VOTLW, it's like a chapter tactic that's worse and costlier, yay.

mine was mostly joke, though i like the model so i might get one. though as just a monstrous list i would have to look it up but if you double force org could you double ally? if so eldar wraithknight x 3, ally tau riptide, ally dreadknight, add the knight and be curious why nobody will play me... or just lose because i don't have points left for anythign else

Did I read that GW site right, $188 bucks for 2 squads?

Anyway, its kind of cool. I remember when they had a partial list back in 2nd including a dreadnought and a special character. Hopefully they will get a full list out of this.
