Once again, the new designers show they don't know how to keep a consistent aesthetic. Pretty much nothing about that vehicle says IG.

That is my thought as well. It doesn't match the aesthetic of any other IG vehicle to date. Its looks as if it was supposed to be apart of a Imperial Knight army or something.

GW seems bound and determined to make a liar out of me; I'll have to see what the other bits that squad comes with but my initial reaction was not good so I suppose it was not "unreservedly" as I claimed. Granted, it might be tainted by the "what the gak is that thing..." from the image just before and after it being further magnified by a...questionable color scheme and/or bad photo. However, with the APC that's $48 that will almost assuredly be staying in the wallet, with a decent chance of the money I'd be thinking about STs staying there as well unless there's some better heads on offer (I *despise* un-helmeted models and beret != helmet). That is certainly not out of the realm of possibility though, so there's yet a chance I suppose.

However, I will say that it is most thoughtful of GW to ensure I have enough money to buy the things I want from other companies without breaking my gaming budget. I don't know why you lot say they don't care about their customers, I think that was quite nice of them!

Any idea if the strorm troopers will be plastic? The pic a fe pages back makes me think the will be finecast/resin

The Scions look like they're the private bodyguards of a planetary governor or something, rather than members of a regiment that sees frontline service. That's not necessarily bad, but I think, for a lot of people, that means they'll clash aesthetically with what already exists in the standard IG army.

What I can see these being great for are Inquisitorial Henchmen that don't look like guardsmen.

I'm basing that off the big picture of the Scions, the small picture looks like there might be enough helmeted heads to get these guys looking a little more military (like the guy with the pimp stick and cloak in the big picture - his helmet is the only good thing about that model)

Plenty has been said about the track thing. I'll just add that I think it's an even worse mis-step than the Centurions and there are barely words for how much I loathed those.

I think the Scions look the part. They are Imperial regiments as opposed to units raised on distant planets. They look like they're wearing carapace armor culturally from the same place as Sisters of Battle power armor... Which makes sense since they all went to school together. The berets are the only thing that looks out of place but we all know why they did that.

The majority of IG tech is the result of less technologically advance worlds attempting to build relevant armies when they're technologically backwards. ST/Scions are how the IG would be equipped if the Imperium were equipping the IG instead of relying something more of a regional militia organization.

Yeah, it's worth remembering that STs are their own regiments that are then attached to other IG formations so it makes sense they would have their own aesthetic independent of a particular style of IG. I think from the neck down, they look quite nice and do a decent job of holding to the IG motifs.

It's just the damned berets that wreck it...

Well if the years old rumors are true... They have helmets as well as beret heads available for all the scions. You see a few guys with helmets and those aren't bad.

From the looks of the box art they're plastic.

I thought GW had stopped releasing Finecast models anyways? That would be a heck of a lot of different finecast models considering you see a good 6 or 7 in the leaked pic alone, and apparently there a couple more on the leaked box art, as terrible as that photo's quality is.

Aw, I really wished I would be proven wrong by the Taurox, but nope, that's a heinously ugly vehicle. It might have potential, only sprue pictures and 360s will tell for sure.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

I kind of like the tank/wagon. It looks Imperial but sits apart from the typical Imperial Guard war machines.

Looking forward to seeing official pictures of those stormtroopers on the GW site.

Well, in a way there IS a consistent aesthetic entering GW:

Excuse my MS paint skills, but for the good of the Imperium (or whatever we're called now) I tried to chimera-ize the truckk a little... but the orky tracks really don't help. Maybe it could be converted to a hover-vehicle?

Back in the English morass

That truckthing vaguely reminds me of the Capitol Imperialis so I perhaps thats what the sculptor was aiming for.

I really don't see how it could have gotten through quality control though.

What really amazes me is the fender things they stuck on the tracks.

Even just flipping them so that the larger part is on the ground would be an improvement.

Why on earth would you have the smaller part of the track in contact with the ground?

Those stromtroopers look so damn cool. The head with the mask, goggles and beret is insanely good looking.

For the same reason most tanks have the front and back of the track chain lifted upwards. It's easier to drive over stuff and you don't want to bury the track under terrain.

I wonder if these Storm Troopers (whatever their new name is) take on a role somewhere between the old Storm Troopers and Arbites. They look more ornate, as if they come from a specific faction that is transported to worlds around the galaxy.

I'll need to see a full 360 of the transport, but I hope that there is a back hatch of some kind. Definitely can see one of these rolling through the ruins of an Imperial city, Storm Troopers jumping out and blasting heretics or alien filth.

And smashing them with that sweet armored front. It just screams "ROAD-KILL".

I think the trukk is fine, just not as a frontline IG fighting vehicle. Command truck, some kind of imperial weirdness, whatever.

The Taurox IMO refers to Taurus -> Bullgryn So its vehicle capable of transporting Ogryns. Also, its IMO big as feth, I guess and those weapons are probably twinliked punishers. I like the idea anti-riot/ security heavy armored transport, just the model should be done better.

Also, I guess, Tempestus will be whole additional army available to imperial armies (as Inquisition) with stormtroopers, ogryns etc.

Being optimistic´s worthless if it means ignoring the suffering of this world. Worse than worthless. It´s bloody evil.

The stormtroopers interest me the most, so I have to compare similar troops released recently:
Spoiler:
GW - look much better than their older ones, I actually like them a lot.

Dreamforge (not including accessory kit customisations which has about 15-20 trooper and officer heads with hats/caps which can match the GW ST berets, individual hands with different hand signals and so on). Likely at least 2 minis to each GW mini price-wise. Also the kits have a lot of options and different poses.

Vic Minis Arcadians (males have finished... females are still coming ; p) Great selection of not-IG weapons coming too). Resin, so relatively pricy - probably similar price per model to GW troops.

Vics troops are a little harder to sell as stormtroopers, though if you add shoulder pads like the old Cadians they could easily pass as stormtroopers imo, with the added benefit of being mixed male/female troops. I still think Eisenkern are without a doubt the best IG stormtrooper option, especially if you pick up an accessory kit to add to the customization. The GW ones do look good - but the (likely) price just doesn't warrant it compared to the alternatives sadly. I'd gladly buy 50 if they weren't marked up so high.

I was originally going to use Unity Council Marines as my stormies but dat kit. I'll have to see the full set of options. They look incredible for Inquisitorial Stormtroopers.

Fantasy: Tomb Kings, Dark Elves, Wood Elves, Lizardmen, Daemons
40k: Daemon Hunters (GK,MT allied), Tallarn Armored Battle Group, Night Lords.
Firestorm Armada/Firestorm Planetfall: Dindrenzi

The sad part about that truck is that even if it doesn't really look like a proper IG vehicle, it could still look okay on it's own.

Less garish paint job (clearly intended as an match for the Freelance green Knight) and a more sensible design approach and it's not really that bad of a kit.
