I like that a lot better. I think my biggest problmes are it's overall top-heavy nature, the skull on the grill, and the kinda goofy looking tread pods.

Yes, this.

Can't be arsed with 40K anymore. There's too much to wrap your head around.

I agree, it is way too much. That said, I've really gotten into Kill Team as it is the opposite of the constant release bombardment going on right now. Simple, sensible and balanced rules, quick games and you don't have to take out a second mortgage to build a force. It is the only thing keeping me gaming in the 40k universe.

Those were my first thoughts when I saw it. Really nice of GW to throw Ork players a new kit though!

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

Less garish paint job (clearly intended as an match for the Freelance green Knight) and a more sensible design approach and it's not really that bad of a kit.

Maybe replace turret with a chimera/Leman russ so we get more IG tech .

Edit it needs some WW2 German view ports added as windows.

If they had just made it about 30% longer (stretched out horizontally in MSpaint), it wouldn't be too bad. You'd still have to take off the stupid quad tracks and replace them with dollar store construction vehicle tires but at least it wouldn't be a overly garish chibi vehicle. I wonder if chapterhouse will come out with an extended cab version like they did with the Storm Raven.

The Slo-Cat looks like it's up on tip-toe. As others have said, it could look better with the track pods flipped so the shorter sides are on top. Wheels would be even better though.

I think it's salvageable with a de-blinging and some kind of drab paint scheme.

They are part of the Guard surely? With the Other book just being a purely Stormtrooper force?

I hope so. As I said in my edit, I'm assuming that.
It would be pretty stupid design wise, but this the same company who charged 25 pounds for a book that contained rules for 2 models.

I happen to like the new truck.

One model with two weapon loadouts. The knights as a kit are no more two models than a heavy bolter sponson predator is a lascannon predator. I know it's semantics but it shows GW's current design ethos more accuratelt to not double it.

You are right, with a de-blinging, a proper paint scheme, and perhaps a bit of extra length added it would look much better. At that point you could even add wheels, but as others have said, isn't that just an example of a really bad miniature? If you want to change most things about the design itself to make it passable, it really looks like the original designers have failed horribly.

Wow. I echo most of the sentiments in this thread. GW went from the Imperial Knights to this load of steaming hot bullcrap. Scions, despite being okay sculpts don't fit the aesthetic at all. 99% of players just wanted a modern high quality plastic take on the Kasrkins, but instead we got some random guys with berets.

As far as the Taurox (what a ridiculous name -- once again GW outdoes itself) is concerned, it's probably the most hideous vehicle GW has released in a long time. The only explanation I can think of is that they looked at the Chimera and Leman Russ and realised that (non-FW) IG tanks have always been the ugliest and most nonsensical models in the entire GW vehicle range and decided to keep up with the theme of being horrible.

My problem isn't just the model either. I simply can't see why any IG player would want a new transport as the one new unit that gets added in this four year cycle. It's most likely absolutely useless in any even remotely competitive setting. My bet is that it has AV13 in front and sides, some stupid four or six shot autocannon, and a near 200 point points cost. Whoopdy-doo. How innovative. How exciting.

You are right, with a de-blinging, a proper paint scheme, and perhaps a bit of extra length added it would look much better. At that point you could even add wheels, but as others have said, isn't that just an example of a really bad miniature?

Exactly. "Yeah this model isn't so bad if you throw away half the parts it comes with and buy new ones from elsewhere and overall put about 10 hours of conversion work into it". That's what you can do to every single awful model to transform it into something passable, but it won't be the same model anymore. The original model is god awful no matter how you spin it.

What the heck is up with GW's idea that vehicles need to be as tall as possible? The Leman Russ looks absolutely idiotic for a MBT, being about as tall as it is wide, and this new abomination is even worse. I'm flabbergasted that in 2014 a model company can release this Taurox as a military vehicle with a straight face.

Actually, it's interesting that you should mention the Storm Raven. It's probably similar in that the need to squeeze it onto a certain number of sprues and box size came before actually making the thing look half decent.

But, in any case it will probably have good rules for the points cost. People will still buy it even if it looks like a tonka truck.

What makes you think it will have good rules? GW's track record with giving new units passable rules is fifty fifty or worse.

While it's true that the Taurux doens't really blend in with the IG aesthetic, that just opens the door to all matter of third party counts as. I mean, at the end of the day, it's just an armored car with a turret. Not hard to create.

Looks like it.

I think the Imperial War Van will look great in winterized olive drab next to my Valhallans. That thing looks like it could handle some Valhallan tundra.

Wow, what a strange turn of events the IG have had.

Not really feeling that snowcat. Looks kinda lame, for a IG vehicle. Kinda like some sort of G.I.Joe vehicle from back in the day converted over for a 40K one.

Not a very good vehicle at all, whats up with the tire snow treads? That just doesn't look like it belongs in the 40K game at all.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Basically I'm ready to call this IG release a flop already based on what we've seen. We'll get the Ogryns still, which are probably Ogre Kingdoms Maneaters with ripper guns, but even if they were the best sculpts in the world it'd still be the worst codex relaunch of the 5th and 6th edition. A couple of non-competive and ugly units noone wanted or needed for exorbitant prices.

While it's true that the Taurux doens't really blend in with the IG aesthetic, that just opens the door to all matter of third party counts as. I mean, at the end of the day, it's just an armored car with a turret. Not hard to create.

Except of course for the fact that for your counts-as model to be legal it has to have the same dimensions for line of sight and cover and targeting, and no future APC would have the dimensions of that abomination.

I thought of that. If need be, I will literally put the samn thing on a raised base.

We'll see how many of them are needed, if any, to build the armies I want to play.

Well, I'm assuming that, anyway. It would be pretty stupid, but considering that GW has discovered DLC...

To be honest its probably for fielding an army of scions(storm troopers). Remember legion of the damned, they are in the space marine codex but they just got their own supplement for additional rules. I feel it will be the same for these guys as well.

Also sorry if this was already discussed (im not reading through 19pages) but the pic of the scions coming from the back of a valkyrie looks as if its a command squad no? on the far right there is what look to be a vox caster, to the left of him a bit there looks to be a medic, theres a standard bearer and the commander. The models are very nice and if there really are all the bits for these in the one 5 man box the $35 price tag doesnt seem terrible.

It looks like the Scions in the tiny WD picture with prices have helmeted heads. It would give the box even more options and would change my opinion on the feasibility of the kit. The lego truck is still horrible though. Sculpted by Dale Stringer and Tom Watson. Are they unpaid interns?

An all stormtrooper army has a lot of possibilities for radical inquistitorial strike forces as well.

The Scions box can be made as a "Militarum Tempestus Scion Squad" or "Militarum Tempestus Command Squad", so you're right that it's a Command Squad.

Look at the front page and the White Dwarf "box" photo for the unit.

There's a Plasma Gun on one of the Scions there.
