Thanks gents.

@Grim: Knew that we could tempt you somehow with some GoA miniatures. The bases are nice and easy to do.

@Para: 90% of the range is more classic sci-fi than anything, and the Cylon eye lens thing was definitely my inspiration for my Algoryn visors.

@Azazelx: Cheers. The rock is part of the sculpt, quite a chunk of metal really.

@Ignatius-Grulgor: I have been cutting down my internet time too, but am quite enjoying it. You will probably see less of me on the forums as a result. I hope I can beat last years total, I am up to 14 minis and only really started again last week (work/Christmas/New Year and Disneyland Paris got in the way.

Am going to do more Alphas and Algoryn over the weekend.

Got some more Alphas done, 5 more marines including the vexhella(sp?). 5 more to do and then my unit of 15 is done.

And WIP on my flamer support squad:

Also got my Mag Light Support team done for the "Tale of 30 Odd Gamers" thread:

And with the command squad:

Thanks for looking.

Got the flamer support squad done, the army is now at 20 Marines done so it feels like it may actually become an army rather than just a skirmish force.

Onto the models, photos are not the best as the light here today is terrible:

And the army thus far, have no idea if it is legal/points costs/whatever. I just hope that Forge World re-release the crusade army lists again.

Looking good!

If your next target is to legalise it, you'll want either another Tactical Squad or Veteran Tactical Squad (Skorr has Master of the Legion, doesn't he? That's the event-exclusive guy, yes?)

From the look of it, he's got another 15 tac marines, 5 cataphractii terminators and Steloc Aethon (Praetor in terminator armour, with combi melta and chainfist) to paint.

I bought 2 Calth boxes, so left to paint I have:

20 Tacticals (15 man squad and 5 to add to the 10 already done).
5 Heavy Bolter Marines.
5 Missile Launcher Marines
10 Veterans (completed with Forge World Alpha Legion heads)

10 Cataphractii Terminators
Contemptor Dread

and whatever characters are left.

So still a fair way to go. And today is payday and I keep on looking at the Forge World site...

Cheers everyone, here is the Marine contingent of my Calth purchases:

So painted is:

10 Tacticals
5 Man Meltagun Support Squad
5 Man Flamer Support Squad.

So a 1/3rd done.

Although daftly I have just bought a Sicaran Battle Tank and a Deimos Pattern Rhino, the AL Headhunters are tempting me too even though I have no idea where they are on the FOC.

It I recall, the Headhunters are Elite, they have special issue ammo, including one type no one else gets access to, and Power Daggers for (I think) +5ppm.... If you want a more detailed summary, let me know and I'll actually get up and look them up!

Looking forward to the tanks, Sicarans are simply epic.

They're(Dark Eldar) still in that boat sadly :( Latest codex got nerfed pretty hard on the power weapons front. Can only equip characters with power swords, agonizers or husk-blades cc wise now! :( (with exception to Scourge who can have a power lance!)

A bit of progress on here today. I got a bit bored of painting Alpha Marines so just picked a random mini out of the "Pile Of Shame".

I ended up picking out Hansa Nairoba, the Freeborn Mercenary Captain. In game terms him and his right hand man Bovan Tuk are like a two man army. Hansa was the only completed sculpt that Warlord had when they had the failed GoA Kickstarter, ultimately I think the game is stronger for that failed experiment.

Some background on Hansa:

"Hansa Nairoba of the Freeborn is a notorious Mercenary Commander and Adventurer the best in all of Determinate space in the opinion of many CoCom Agents. Hansa himself would certainly agree with them: sometime gunrunner, revolutionary leader, military commander, trader in the esoteric and dealer in secrets, his reputation alone is worth a battalion of assault troopers.

Ever prepared for a fight, Hansa carries a light compression carbine a deadly if notoriously demanding weapon together with a hefty plasma pistol for when the fighting gets up close and personal. The cylindrical packs attached to his battle armour carry slinger grenades: tiny, powerful explosive charges that can be set or hurled as required. The armoured panels on Hansa´s suit are fitted with Concord manufactured hyper-light shield generators powerful enough to deflect practically any missile."

So onto the miniature:

Scale shot:

I have also got my "Tale of gamers" entry ready to go, 10 Algoryn AI troopers:

But am also cracking along with my Alphas, so a little WIP, my final 5 tacticals for the 1 man squad:

And Contemptor number 2:

Thanks for looking.

Have you gotten any games in with GoA? If so, did you like it? Really like the models you've been painting from that range.

@Para, I do not have his sidekick. They are available separately or as a 2 pack, you can easily buy the two for sub £8.

@Squall: Yes I have had about 5 games at one of the FLGS. The first couple were mistake laden learning games. After that it was easy to pick up and learn, I have only played 5-6 squad games but have loved it.

@Fifty: I will not be painting anything but have a load of AL Forge World transfers ready to go.

@Evildrcheese, I know the (possibly) traitorous rotters are everywhere. Paint the galaxy metallic blue!

Keep on smashing out the Alphas, got the final 5 Marines of my 15 man tactical squad done. Am very happy with how intimidating they look together. I guess that comes from 40K where you are only used to seeing Nids, Orks, Grots and other non Marine armies in units bigger than five or ten models.

I also decided to take a group shot of my GoA stuff, not much done but it is a fledgling game and I hope to get more done as the weeks and months progress.

A question: Do my Algoryn need snow bases to fit in with my other GoA minis?

Cheers.

Hooray, my third post in a row, I must be doing something right!

Any opinions on snow bases for my Algoryn?

So as an antidote to the parade ground of Marines I have been doing lately I decided to paint up my 2nd Contemptor Dreadnought, so here is Omega:

Snazzy transfer action:

Thankfully the Alphas (or indeed the First Founding) were not made up of 30 Legions otherwise the XXX markings may give people the wrong idea

And here he is with his brother Hydra:

Thanks for looking.

Could've sworn I commented on the last update.... Apparently not!

Retroactive commenting mode engaged: That Marine squad really does look great. Some really nice poses and the consistency of the armour is very impressive.

15-man squad on 32mms are simply massive, almost unwieldy, but I did manage to Infiltrate a blob that size behind a building with some super-sneaky Raven Guard rules, it was hilarious to see that mass of minis hunkered down just out of site... and then they utterly failed to beat 10 Necron Immortals... In Close Combat... Yeah, it was painful...

I think the Algoryn are fine based as their are, some snow won't hurt them as it does make things a little more interesting, but I wouldn't say it's necessary.

On to the main event: Wow, that Contemptor is fantastic! Nice use of transfers, great weathering, again really nice colours, and the two together look properly intimidating!

You know what's missing from all this Alpha Legion goodness, though? Tactical Dreadnought Armour! Get on it, I can't wait to see the Cataphtactii in these colours, they should look great!
